Surah Al-A'raf (The Heights) — سورة الأعراف - **Verse:** 145 / 206 · **Juz:** 9 · **Mushaf page:** 167 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-araf/verse-145 ## Arabic وَكَتَبْنَا لَهُ فِي الْاَلْوَاحِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَوْعِظَةً وَتَفْص۪يلاً لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍۚ فَخُذْهَا بِقُوَّةٍ وَأْمُرْ قَوْمَكَ يَأْخُذُوا بِاَحْسَنِهَاۜ سَاُر۪يكُمْ دَارَ الْفَاسِق۪ينَ ## Transcription Wakatabna lahu fee al-alwahimin kulli shay-in mawAAithatan watafseelanlikulli shay-in fakhuthha biquwwatin wa/mur qawmakaya/khuthoo bi-ahsaniha saoreekum daraalfasiqeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley We wrote about everything for him on the Tablets as an admonition and making all things clear. ‘Seize hold of it vigorously and command your people to adopt the best in it. I will show you the home of the deviators!’ ### Progressive Muslims And We wrote for him on the tablets from everything a lesson, and detailing all things. Take it with strength and order your people to take the best from it. I will show you the abode of the corrupt. ### Shabbir Ahmed We ordained for him in, the Tablets of Law, Enlightenment and clearly spelled out Guidance. And told him, "Uphold these teachings strongly, and tell your people to uphold them. These are excellent teachings. I will soon let you and your people see (how blessed the outcome of compliance will be and) to which abode the drifters will be headed (39:18)." ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And We wrote for him on the tablets every thing as an admonition and an explanation for everything: “Hold thou them fast, and command thou thy people to take the best thereof. I will point out for you the fate of the wicked." ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira And We wrote down on tablets admonitions and clear explanations of all things for Moses, and ordered him: "Hold fast to them, and command your people to observe the best in them. I will show you the abode of the wicked. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And We wrote for him on the tablets [something] of all things - instruction and explanation for all things, [saying], "Take them with determination and order your people to take the best of it. I will show you the home of the defiantly disobedient." ### Muhammad Asad And We ordained for him in the tablets [of the Law] all manner of admonition, clearly spelling out everything. And [We said:] "Hold fast unto them with [all thy] strength, and bid thy people to hold fast to their most goodly rules." I will show you the way the iniquitous shall go. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And We wrote for him, upon the tablets, the lesson to be drawn from all things and the explanation of all things, then (bade him): Hold it fast; and command thy people (saying): Take the better (course made clear) therein. I shall show thee the abode of evil-livers. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And We ordained for Moses in the Tablets all manner of admonition, and instruction concerning all things,[1] and said to him: Hold to these, with all your strength. and bid your people to follow them in accord with their best understanding.[2] I shall soon show you the habitation of the wicked. [3] _Footnotes_ - [1] The Bible categorically mentions that the tablets were of stone. The act of writing on these tablets is attributed in both the Qur'an and the Bible, to God. Nonetheless, it is not possible to ascertain whether the actual act of writing was as performed by God exercising His power directly, or by God in the sense of His assignment of the task to some angel or to Moses (cf. Exodus 31: 18, 32: 15-16; and Deuteronomyi, 5: 6-22). - [2] The Israelites were asked to hold fast to the Law to follow it in its plain meaning, a meaning which can he grasped by an ordinary man of sound heart and good intent with the help of his common sense. This stipulation was added in order to discourage the chicanery and hair-splitting to which lawyers resort in order to accommodate the crooked aims of the people. The warning was necessary to emphasize that holding fast to the Law was not to be equated with following the chicanery of the lawyers. - [3] The Israelites were told that on their way they would come across the ruins of earlier nations who had refused to turn to God and who had persisted in their evil way's. Observing those ruins would he instructive insofar as they eloquently spoke of the tragic end that meets those who indulge in such iniquity . ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab We set down for him in writing on the plates all that bore reference to every subject, affair, event, circumstance, concern, contention, dispute, litigation and the like, distinctly expressing all that was meant, leaving nothing merely implied. And We commanded him to act strongly upon all that was imparted to him and to enjoin his people to adopt those divine precepts that would be in their best interests. And We added: "I will show your people the destined desolate abode and the destined insecure condition of those who grew daily more and more wicked". ### Bijan Moeinian Then I made My admonitions, concerning every aspect of life, and detailed commandments, being inscribed upon the tablets. I gave them to Moses and said: "Take these wholeheartedly and tell your people to follow them according to their best sense [and not to make them subject to the strange kind of interpretations.] Pretty soon, I will show you where the wicked ones will end in." ### Al-Hilali & Khan And We wrote for him on the Tablets the lesson to be drawn from all things and the explanation for all things (and said): Hold unto these with firmness, and enjoin your people to take the better therein. I shall show you the home of Al-Fâsiqûn (the rebellious, disobedient to Allâh). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And We ordained laws for him in the tablets in all matters, both commanding and explaining all things, (and said): "Take and hold these with firmness, and enjoin thy people to hold fast by the best in the precepts: soon shall I show you the homes of the wicked,- (How they lie desolate)." ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran We wrote for him on the Tablets ˹the fundamentals˺ of everything; commandments and explanations of all things. ˹We commanded,˺ "Hold to this firmly and ask your people to take the best of it.[1] I will soon show ˹all of˺ you the home of the rebellious.[2] ### Taqi Usmani We wrote for him on the Tablets advice of every kind, and explanations of all (needful) things. "So hold it firm, and ask your people to hold on to the best things in it. " ### Amatul Rahman Omar And We preserved (in writing) for him on the Tablets all kinds of precepts and clear details of everything (which the Children of Israel needed). Then (We bade him), `Hold them fast and bid your people to carry out its best (teachings in its true significance). I will soon show you people the resort of the transgressors.' (- This nation will become corrupt and will meet an evil end.) ### Ali Quli Qarai And We wrote for him in the Tablets advice concerning all things and an elaboration of all things, [and We said], ‘Hold on to them with power, and bid your people to hold on to the best of [what is in] them.
