Surah Al-Anfal (The Spoils of War) — سورة الأنفال - **Verse:** 63 / 75 · **Juz:** 10 · **Mushaf page:** 184 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-anfal/verse-63 ## Arabic وَاَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْۜ لَوْ اَنْفَقْتَ مَا فِي الْاَرْضِ جَم۪يعاً مَٓا اَلَّفْتَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَلٰكِنَّ اللّٰهَ اَلَّفَ بَيْنَهُمْۜ اِنَّهُ عَز۪يزٌ حَك۪يمٌ ## Transcription Waallafa bayna quloobihim law anfaqta mafee al-ardi jameeAAan ma allafta bayna quloobihimwalakinna Allaha allafa baynahum innahu AAazeezun hakeem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley and unified their hearts. Even if you had spent everything on the earth, you could not have unified their hearts. But Allah has unified them. He is Almighty, All-Wise. ### Progressive Muslims And He made unity between their hearts. And had you spent all that is on Earth, you would not have united between their hearts, but God united between them. He is Noble, Wise. ### Shabbir Ahmed Allah has brought together the hearts of the believers. If you (O Messenger) had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have produced that affection, but Allah has done it. (The Divine Ideology has attuned the believers). If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allah brought them together. Indeed, He is Exalted in Might and Wise. ### Muhammad Asad whose hearts He has brought together: [for, ] if thou hadst expended all that is on earth, thou couldst not have brought their hearts together [by thyself]: but God did bring them together. Verily, He is almighty, wise. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And (as for the believers) hath attuned their hearts. If thou hadst spent all that is in the earth thou couldst not have attuned their hearts, but Allah hath attuned them. Lo! He is Mighty, Wise. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary and joined their hearts. Had you given away all the riches of the earth you could not have joined their hearts, but it is Allah Who joined their hearts.[1] Indeed He is All-Mighty. All-Wise. _Footnotes_ - [1] Here the allusion is to that strong bond of love and brotherhood that developed among the Arabs who embraced Islam and whose conversion brought them solidarity. This strong solidarity existed despite the fact that they came from a variety of tribes which had long-standing traditions of mutual enmity. This was a special favour of God on the Muslims, especially evident in the case of the Aws and Khazraj. It was barely a couple of years before their acceptance of Islam that the two clans virtually thirsted for each other's blood. During the battle of Bu'ath both seemed set to exterminate each other. (Ibn Hisham, vol. 1. pp. 427-8-Ed.) To turn such severe enmity into deep cordiality and brotherhood within a span of two or three years and to join together mutually repellent elements into a unity as firm as that of a solid wall as was witnessed in regards to the Muslim community during the life of Prophet (peace be upon him) was doubtlessly beyond the power of any mortal. Were anyone to depend on worldly factors alone, it would have been impossible to bring about such an achievement. God's support was the deciding factor in this development and this only serves to emphasize that Muslims should always seek and depend on God's support and favour rather than on worldly factors. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And it is He Who united their feeling and thought, their action and interest and their purpose, and caused their spiritual union with Allah. It is He Who made them reconcile themselves with their own hearts and with Allah. Had you spent all the available wealth on earth for this purpose, you would have failed to tune their hearts to one thought. But Allah brought this unison by tuning their frame of mind, their mood and their disposition; Allah is indeed Azizun and Hakimun. ### Bijan Moeinian It was God Who made the believers feel like being brothers. Even if you have spent all the wealth of the world, you could not have united them (only two years ago the clan of Aas and Khadhraj were killing each other out of animosity.) God is the Greatest, God is the Most Wise. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And He has united their (i.e. believers’) hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts, but Allâh has united them. Certainly He is All-Mighty, All-Wise. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And (moreover) He hath put affection between their hearts: not if thou hadst spent all that is in the earth, couldst thou have produced that affection, but Allah hath done it: for He is Exalted in might, Wise. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran He brought their hearts together.
