Surah Al-Anfal (The Spoils of War) — سورة الأنفال - **Verse:** 32 / 75 · **Juz:** 9 · **Mushaf page:** 179 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-anfal/verse-32 ## Arabic وَاِذْ قَالُوا اللّٰهُمَّ اِنْ كَانَ هٰذَا هُوَ الْحَقَّ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ فَاَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةً مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ اَوِ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ اَل۪يمٍ ## Transcription Wa-ith qaloo allahummain kana hatha huwa alhaqqa min AAindika faamtirAAalayna hijaratan mina assama-iawi i/tina biAAathabin aleem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley And they say, ‘Allah, if this is really the truth from You, rain down stones on us out of heaven or send a painful punishment down on us. ’ ### Progressive Muslims And they said: "O God, if this is the truth from You, then send down upon us a rain of stones from the sky or bring on us a painful retribution. " ### Shabbir Ahmed They went ahead saying, "O Allah! If this is indeed the Truth from You, then shower upon us rocks from the sky or bring on us a painful suffering. If this be indeed the truth from Thee, then rain down stones on us or bring on us some painful doom! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And also recall when they said: 'O Allah! If this indeed be the truth from You, then rain down stones upon us from heaven, or bring upon us a painful chastisement.'[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] These words were uttered by way of challenge rather than a prayer to God. What they meant was that had the message of the Prophet (peace be on him) been true, and from God, its rejection would have entailed a heavy scourge, and stones would have fallen on them from heaven. Since nothing of the sort happened, it was evident that the message was neither true nor from God. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And remember O Muhammad when their pride and insolence got the better of their prudence and they said: O Allah, "if this is a divine discourse revealed from Your heaven's realm, then pour down upon us from the floor of the vault of heaven a rain of stones or a rain of large blows". ### Bijan Moeinian They were challenging you to ask God to send them fiery stones from the sky or any other sever punishment.
