Surah Al-Anbiya (The Prophets) — سورة الأنبياء - **Verse:** 42 / 112 · **Juz:** 17 · **Mushaf page:** 324 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-anbiya/verse-42 ## Arabic قُلْ مَنْ يَكْلَؤُ۬كُمْ بِالَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ مِنَ الرَّحْمٰنِۜ بَلْ هُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِمْ مُعْرِضُونَ ## Transcription Qul man yaklaokum billayli wannaharimina arrahmani bal hum AAan thikrirabbihim muAAridoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Say: ‘Who will protect you night and day from the All-Merciful?’ Yet they turn away from the remembrance of their Lord. ### Progressive Muslims Say: "Who can protect you during the night and the day from the Almighty" No, they are turning away from the remembrance of their Lord. ### Shabbir Ahmed Say, "Who guards you in the night and in the day from the Beneficent?" (It is His Mercy that He does not take you to task for every transgression (4:31), (16:61), (35:45)). Yet, they stubbornly turn away from remembrance of their Sustainer. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Say thou: “Who can protect you by night and day from the Almighty?” But they, from the remembrance of their Lord, are turning away. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Say: "Who can protect you during the night and the day from the Almighty?" No, they are turning away from the remembrance of their Lord. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Say, "Who can protect you from the Most Gracious during the night or during the day?" Indeed, they are totally oblivious to the message of their Lord. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Say: "Who guards you from Ar-Rahman by night and by day?" Yet from a mention of their Lord they turn away. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Say, "Who can protect you at night or by day from the Most Merciful?" But they are, from the remembrance of their Lord, turning away. ### Muhammad Asad Say: "Who could protect you, by night or by day, from the Most Gracious?" And yet, from a remembrance of their Sustainer do they stubbornly turn away! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Say: Who guardeth you in the night or in the day from the Beneficent? Nay, but they turn away from mention of their Lord! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Tell them, (O Muhammad): "Who protects you, during the night or the day from the Most Compassionate Lord?"[1] And yet they turn away from the Admonition of their Lord. _Footnotes_ - [1] That is to say, who is there to protect and save you from the scourge of Allah if you are suddenly visited by it any time during the night or day. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Say to them: "Who can defend you by night and/or by day from AL- Rahman if His wrath speaks thunder". But they are unwilling to listen to divine Revelation nor to Allah's warning and they are habitually opposed to the mention of His attributes. ### Bijan Moeinian Say: "Who is there looking for you, day and night, to protect you from the punishment of God, if it descends all of a sudden upon you?" Yet they turn their back to the Lord’s Message. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Say: "Who can guard and protect you in the night or in the day from the (punishment of the) Most Gracious (Allâh)?" Nay, but they turn away from the remembrance of their Lord. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Say: "Who can keep you safe by night and by day from (the Wrath of) (Allah) Most Gracious?" Yet they turn away from the mention of their Lord. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Ask ˹them, O  Prophet,˺ "Who can defend you by day or by night against the Most Compassionate?" Still they turn away from the remembrance of their Lord. ### Taqi Usmani Say, "Who will guard you, during night and day, against the RaHmān (All-Merciful, Allah)?" Rather, to the remembrance of their Lord they are averse. ### Abdul Haleem Say, ‘Who could protect you night and day from the Lord of Mercy?’ Yet they turn away when their Lord is mentioned. ### Arthur John Arberry Say: 'Who shall guard you by night and in the daytime from the All-merciful?'
