_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

اِقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمْ وَهُمْ ف۪ي غَفْلَةٍ مُعْرِضُونَۚ

Iqtaraba linnasi hisabuhumwahum fee ghaflatin muAAridoon

Drawn nigh to men has their reckoning, while they in heedlessness are turning away;

## Verse 2

مَا يَأْت۪يهِمْ مِنْ ذِكْرٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ مُحْدَثٍ اِلَّا اسْتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَۙ

Ma ya/teehim min thikrin minrabbihim muhdathin illa istamaAAoohu wahumyalAAaboon

No remembrance from their Lord comes to them anew but they listen to it while they play,

## Verse 3

لَاهِيَةً قُلُوبُهُمْۜ وَاَسَرُّوا النَّجْوٰىۗ اَلَّذ۪ينَ ظَلَمُواۗ هَلْ هٰذَٓا اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْۚ اَفَتَأْتُونَ السِّحْرَ وَاَنْتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ

Lahiyatan quloobuhum waasarroo annajwaallatheena thalamoo hal hatha illabasharun mithlukum afata/toona assihra waantum tubsiroon

Their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation: “Is this save a mortal like you? Will you go to sorcery with open eyes?”

## Verse 4

قَالَ رَبّ۪ي يَعْلَمُ الْقَوْلَ فِي السَّمَٓاءِ وَالْاَرْضِۘ وَهُوَ السَّم۪يعُ الْعَل۪يمُ

Qala rabbee yaAAlamu alqawla fee assama-iwal-ardi wahuwa assameeAAu alAAaleem

Say thou: “My Lord knows what is said in the heaven and the earth; and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.”

## Verse 5

بَلْ قَالُٓوا اَضْغَاثُ اَحْلَامٍ بَلِ افْتَرٰيهُ بَلْ هُوَ شَاعِرٌۚ فَلْيَأْتِنَا بِاٰيَةٍ كَمَٓا اُرْسِلَ الْاَوَّلُونَ

Bal qaloo adghathu ahlaminbali iftarahu bal huwa shaAAirun falya/tinabi-ayatin kama orsila al-awwaloon

“But,” — they say — “a confused medley of dreams; but he has invented it; but he is a poet. So let him bring us a proof like that sent to the former peoples!”

## Verse 6

مَٓا اٰمَنَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ اَهْلَكْنَاهَاۚ اَفَهُمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Ma amanat qablahum min qaryatinahlaknaha afahum yu/minoon

No city believed before them among those We destroyed; will they then believe?

## Verse 7

وَمَٓا اَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ اِلَّا رِجَالاً نُوح۪ٓي اِلَيْهِمْ فَسْـَٔلُٓوا اَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

Wama arsalna qablaka illarijalan noohee ilayhim fas-aloo ahla aththikriin kuntum la taAAlamoon

And We sent before thee only men to whom We revealed — and ask the people of the remembrance, if you know not —

## Verse 8

وَمَا جَعَلْنَاهُمْ جَسَداً لَا يَأْكُلُونَ الطَّعَامَ وَمَا  كَانُوا خَالِد۪ينَ

Wama jaAAalnahum jasadan laya/kuloona attaAAama wama kanookhalideen

And We gave them not bodies that ate not food, nor were they immortals;

## Verse 9

ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَاهُمُ الْوَعْدَ فَاَنْجَيْنَاهُمْ وَمَنْ نَشَٓاءُ وَاَهْلَكْنَا الْمُسْرِف۪ينَ

Thumma sadaqnahumu alwaAAdafaanjaynahum waman nashao waahlaknaalmusrifeen

Then fulfilled We the promise to them, and delivered them and whom We wished, and destroyed the committers of excess.

## Verse 10

لَقَدْ اَنْزَلْـنَٓا اِلَيْكُمْ كِتَاباً ف۪يهِ ذِكْرُكُمْۜ اَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ۟

Laqad anzalna ilaykum kitabanfeehi thikrukum afala taAAqiloon

We have sent down to you a Writ wherein is your remembrance; will you then not use reason!

## Verse 11

وَكَمْ قَصَمْنَا مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ كَانَتْ ظَالِمَةً وَاَنْشَأْنَا بَعْدَهَا قَوْماً اٰخَر۪ينَ

Wakam qasamna min qaryatin kanatthalimatan waansha/na baAAdahaqawman akhareen

And how many a city that was doing wrong did We utterly destroy, and produced after it another people!

## Verse 12

فَلَمَّٓا اَحَسُّوا بَأْسَنَٓا اِذَا هُمْ مِنْهَا يَرْكُضُونَۜ

Falamma ahassoo ba/sanaitha hum minha yarkudoon

And when they perceived Our might, then did they flee from it.

## Verse 13

لَا تَرْكُضُوا وَارْجِعُٓوا اِلٰى مَٓا اُتْرِفْتُمْ ف۪يهِ وَمَسَاكِنِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْـَٔلُونَ

La tarkudoo warjiAAooila ma otriftum feehi wamasakinikumlaAAallakum tus-aloon

“Flee not! But return to that wherein you were given opulence, and your dwellings, that you might be questioned.”

## Verse 14

قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَٓا اِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِم۪ينَ

Qaloo ya waylana innakunna thalimeen

They said: “Woe is us! We were wrongdoers.”

## Verse 15

فَمَا زَالَتْ تِلْكَ دَعْوٰيهُمْ حَتّٰى جَعَلْنَاهُمْ حَص۪يداً خَامِد۪ينَ

Fama zalat tilka daAAwahumhatta jaAAalnahum haseedan khamideen

And that, their call, ceased not until We made them a harvest, extinguished.

## Verse 16

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَٓاءَ وَالْاَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَاعِب۪ينَ

Wama khalaqna assamaawal-arda wama baynahuma laAAibeen

And We created not the heaven and the earth and what is between them in play.

## Verse 17

لَوْ اَرَدْنَٓا اَنْ نَتَّخِذَ لَهْواً لَاتَّخَذْنَاهُ مِنْ لَدُنَّاۗ اِنْ كُنَّا فَاعِل۪ينَ

Law aradna an nattakhithalahwan lattakhathnahu min ladunna inkunna faAAileen

Had We wished to take a diversion, We would have taken it from Ourselves — if We are the doers.

## Verse 18

بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بِالْحَقِّ عَلَى الْبَاطِلِ فَيَدْمَغُهُ فَاِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٌۜ وَلَكُمُ الْوَيْلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ

Bal naqthifu bilhaqqiAAala albatili fayadmaghuhu fa-itha huwa zahiqunwalakumu alwaylu mimma tasifoon

But We hurl the truth against vanity and it triumphs over it, and then it passes away. And woe to you for what you describe!

## Verse 19

وَلَهُ مَنْ فِي السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِۜ وَمَنْ عِنْدَهُ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِه۪ وَلَا يَسْتَحْسِرُونَۚ

Walahu man fee assamawatiwal-ardi waman AAindahu la yastakbiroonaAAan AAibadatihi wala yastahsiroon

And to Him belongs whoso is in the heavens and the earth; and those in His presence are not too proud for His service, nor do they grow weary,

## Verse 20

يُسَبِّحُونَ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لَا يَفْتُرُونَ

Yusabbihoona allayla wannaharala yafturoon

They give glory night and day, and they flag not.

## Verse 21

اَمِ اتَّخَذُٓوا اٰلِهَةً مِنَ الْاَرْضِ هُمْ يُنْشِرُونَ

Ami ittakhathoo alihatan minaal-ardi hum yunshiroon

If they have taken gods from the earth who resurrect:

## Verse 22

لَوْ كَانَ ف۪يهِمَٓا اٰلِهَةٌ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ لَفَسَدَتَاۚ فَسُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Law kana feehima alihatunilla Allahu lafasadata fasubhana Allahirabbi alAAarshi AAamma yasifoon

Were there in them gods save God, they would have been corrupted; and glory be to God, the Lord of the Throne, above what they describe!

## Verse 23

لَا يُسْـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفْعَلُ وَهُمْ يُسْـَٔلُونَ

La yus-alu AAamma yafAAaluwahum yus-aloon

He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.

## Verse 24

اَمِ اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِه۪ٓ اٰلِهَةًۜ قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْۚ هٰذَا ذِكْرُ مَنْ مَعِيَ وَذِكْرُ مَنْ قَبْل۪يۜ بَلْ اَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَۙ الْحَقَّ فَهُمْ مُعْرِضُونَ

Ami ittakhathoo min doonihi alihatanqul hatoo burhanakum hatha thikru manmaAAiya wathikru man qablee bal aktharuhum layaAAlamoona alhaqqa fahum muAAridoon

If they have taken gods besides Him, say thou: “Bring your evidence. This is the remembrance of him with me, and the remembrance of him before me.” But most of them know not the truth, so they are turning away.

## Verse 25

وَمَٓا اَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولٍ اِلَّا نُوح۪ٓي اِلَيْهِ اَنَّهُ لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّٓا اَنَا۬ فَاعْبُدُونِ

Wama arsalna min qablika minrasoolin illa noohee ilayhi annahu la ilahailla ana faAAbudoon

And We sent not before thee any messenger save We revealed to him that: “There is no god save I; so serve Me.”

## Verse 26

وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمٰنُ وَلَداً سُبْحَانَهُۜ بَلْ عِبَادٌ مُكْرَمُونَۙ

Waqaloo ittakhatha arrahmanuwaladan subhanahu bal AAibadun mukramoon

And they say: “The Almighty has taken a son.” Glory be to Him! But honoured servants

## Verse 27

لَا يَسْبِقُونَهُ بِالْقَوْلِ وَهُمْ بِاَمْرِه۪ يَعْمَلُونَ

La yasbiqoonahu bilqawliwahum bi-amrihi yaAAmaloon

Precede Him not in word, but they act by His command.

## Verse 28

يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ اَيْد۪يهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يَشْفَعُونَۙ اِلَّا لِمَنِ ارْتَضٰى وَهُمْ مِنْ خَشْيَتِه۪ مُشْفِقُونَ

YaAAlamu ma bayna aydeehim wamakhalfahum wala yashfaAAoona illa limani irtadawahum min khashyatihi mushfiqoon

He knows what is before them, and what following them, and they intercede not save for him with whom He is pleased; and they are from fear of Him in dread.

## Verse 29

وَمَنْ يَقُلْ مِنْهُمْ اِنّ۪ٓي اِلٰهٌ مِنْ دُونِه۪ فَذٰلِكَ نَجْز۪يهِ جَهَنَّمَۜ  كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الظَّالِم۪ينَ۟

Waman yaqul minhum innee ilahun mindoonihi fathalika najzeehi jahannama kathalikanajzee aththalimeen

And whoso among them says: “I am a god besides Him!” — then that: We reward him with Gehenna; thus reward We the wrongdoers.

## Verse 30

اَوَلَمْ يَرَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُٓوا اَنَّ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقاً فَفَتَقْنَاهُمَاۜ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَٓاءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّۜ اَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Awa lam yara allatheenakafaroo anna assamawati wal-ardakanata ratqan fafataqnahuma wajaAAalnamina alma-i kulla shay-in hayyin afalayu/minoon

Have not those who ignore warning considered that the heavens and the earth were stitched together, then We ripped them apart and made of water every living thing? Will they then not believe!

## Verse 31

وَجَعَلْنَا فِي الْاَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ اَنْ تَم۪يدَ بِهِمْ وَجَعَلْنَا ف۪يهَا فِجَاجاً سُبُلاً لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ

WajaAAalna fee al-ardi rawasiyaan tameeda bihim wajaAAalna feeha fijajansubulan laAAallahum yahtadoon

And We made in the earth firm mountains lest it sway with them; and We made therein mountain passes as ways, that they might be guided;

## Verse 32

وَجَعَلْنَا السَّمَٓاءَ سَقْفاً مَحْفُوظاًۚ وَهُمْ عَنْ اٰيَاتِهَا مُعْرِضُونَ

WajaAAalna assamaasaqfan mahfoothan wahum AAan ayatihamuAAridoon

And We made the sky a roof protected; but they, from its proofs, are turning away.

## Verse 33

وَهُوَ الَّذ۪ي خَلَقَ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَۜ  كُلٌّ ف۪ي فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ

Wahuwa allathee khalaqa allayla wannaharawashshamsa walqamara kullun fee falakin yasbahoon

And He it is that created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon, each in a circuit swimming.

## Verse 34

وَمَا جَعَلْنَا لِبَشَرٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ الْخُلْدَۜ اَفَا۬ئِنْ مِتَّ فَهُمُ الْخَالِدُونَ

Wama jaAAalna libasharin minqablika alkhulda afa-in mitta fahumu alkhalidoon

And We appointed not eternity for a mortal before thee; if then thou wilt die, then are they eternal?

## Verse 35

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَٓائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِۜ وَنَبْلُوكُمْ بِالشَّرِّ وَالْخَيْرِ فِتْنَةًۜ وَاِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ

Kullu nafsin tha-iqatu almawtiwanablookum bishsharri walkhayri fitnatanwa-ilayna turjaAAoon

Every soul will taste death; and We will try you with evil and good as a means of denial; and to Us will you be returned.

## Verse 36

وَاِذَا رَاٰكَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُٓوا اِنْ يَتَّخِذُونَكَ اِلَّا هُزُواًۜ اَهٰذَا الَّذ۪ي يَذْكُرُ اٰلِهَتَكُمْۚ وَهُمْ بِذِكْرِ الرَّحْمٰنِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ

Wa-itha raaka allatheenakafaroo in yattakhithoonaka illa huzuwan ahathaallathee yathkuru alihatakum wahum bithikriarrahmani hum kafiroon

And when those who ignore warning see thee, they take thee only in mockery: “Is this he who mentions your gods!” And they — of the remembrance of the Almighty — they are deniers.

## Verse 37

خُلِقَ الْاِنْسَانُ مِنْ عَجَلٍۜ سَاُر۪يكُمْ اٰيَات۪ي فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونِ

Khuliqa al-insanu min AAajalinsaoreekum ayatee fala tastaAAjiloon

Man was created of haste. I will show you My proofs, so ask Me not to make haste.

## Verse 38

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتٰى هٰذَا الْوَعْدُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِق۪ينَ

Wayaqooloona mata hathaalwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeen

And they say: “When is this promise, if you be truthful?”

## Verse 39

لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا ح۪ينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَنْ وُجُوهِهِمُ النَّارَ وَلَا عَنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ

Law yaAAlamu allatheena kafaroo heenala yakuffoona AAan wujoohihimu annara walaAAan thuhoorihim wala hum yunsaroon

If those who ignore warning but knew the time when they will not restrain the Fire from their faces, nor from their backs, nor will they be helped!

## Verse 40

بَلْ تَأْت۪يهِمْ بَغْتَةً فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَط۪يعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُنْظَرُونَ

Bal ta/teehim baghtatan fatabhatuhum falayastateeAAoona raddaha wala hum yuntharoon

But it will come upon them unexpectedly, and render them speechless, and they will be unable to repel it, nor will they be granted respite.

## Verse 41

وَلَقَدِ اسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِالَّذ۪ينَ سَخِرُوا مِنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا بِه۪ يَسْتَهْزِؤُ۫نَ۟

Walaqadi istuhzi-a birusulin min qablika fahaqabillatheena sakhiroo minhum ma kanoobihi yastahzi-oon

And messengers were mocked before thee; then there surrounded those who derided them that whereat they mocked.

## Verse 42

قُلْ مَنْ يَكْلَؤُ۬كُمْ بِالَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ مِنَ الرَّحْمٰنِۜ بَلْ هُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِمْ مُعْرِضُونَ

Qul man yaklaokum billayli wannaharimina arrahmani bal hum AAan thikrirabbihim muAAridoon

Say thou: “Who can protect you by night and day from the Almighty?” But they, from the remembrance of their Lord, are turning away.

## Verse 43

اَمْ لَهُمْ اٰلِهَةٌ تَمْنَعُهُمْ مِنْ دُونِنَاۜ لَا يَسْتَط۪يعُونَ نَصْرَ اَنْفُسِهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ مِنَّا يُصْحَبُونَ

Am lahum alihatun tamnaAAuhum mindoonina la yastateeAAoona nasraanfusihim wala hum minna yushaboon

If they have gods to defend them besides Us: they are unable to help themselves, nor are they protected from Us.

## Verse 44

بَلْ مَتَّعْنَا هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ وَاٰبَٓاءَهُمْ حَتّٰى طَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعُمُرُۜ اَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ اَنَّا نَأْتِي الْاَرْضَ نَنْقُصُهَا مِنْ اَطْرَافِهَاۜ اَفَهُمُ الْغَالِبُونَ

Bal mattaAAna haola-iwaabaahum hatta talaAAalayhimu alAAumuru afala yarawna anna na/teeal-arda nanqusuha min atrafihaafahumu alghaliboon

But We gave these and their fathers enjoyment until life became long for them. Have they then not considered that We come to the earth, diminishing it from its extremities? Is it then they who will be the victors?

## Verse 45

قُلْ اِنَّـمَٓا اُنْذِرُكُمْ بِالْوَحْيِۘ وَلَا يَسْمَعُ الصُّمُّ الدُّعَٓاءَ اِذَا مَا يُنْذَرُونَ

Qul innama onthirukum bilwahyiwala yasmaAAu assummu adduAAaaitha ma yuntharoon

Say thou: “I but warn you by revelation.” But the deaf hear not the call when they are warned.

## Verse 46

وَلَئِنْ مَسَّتْهُمْ نَفْحَةٌ مِنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَا وَيْلَنَٓا اِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِم۪ينَ

Wala-in massat-hum nafhatun min AAathabirabbika layaqoolunna ya waylana inna kunnathalimeen

And if there touch them a hint of the punishment of thy Lord, they will say: “Woe is us! We were wrongdoers.”

## Verse 47

وَنَضَعُ الْمَوَاز۪ينَ الْقِسْطَ لِيَوْمِ الْقِيٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْـٔاًۜ وَاِنْ كَانَ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ اَتَيْنَا بِهَاۜ وَكَفٰى بِنَا حَاسِب۪ينَ

WanadaAAu almawazeena alqistaliyawmi alqiyamati fala tuthlamunafsun shay-an wa-in kana mithqala habbatinmin khardalin atayna biha wakafa binahasibeen

And We will set up the balances of equity for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be wronged in anything; and though it be the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it. And sufficient are We as account-takers.

## Verse 48

وَلَقَدْ اٰتَيْنَا مُوسٰى وَهٰرُونَ الْفُرْقَانَ وَضِيَٓاءً وَذِكْراً لِلْمُتَّق۪ينَۙ

Walaqad atayna moosawaharoona alfurqana wadiyaan wathikranlilmuttaqeen

And We gave Moses and Aaron the Division, and an illumination, and a remembrance for those of prudent fear:

## Verse 49

اَلَّذ۪ينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَيْبِ وَهُمْ مِنَ السَّاعَةِ مُشْفِقُونَ

Allatheena yakhshawna rabbahum bilghaybiwahum mina assaAAati mushfiqoon

Those who fear their Lord unseen, and are of the Hour in dread.

## Verse 50

وَهٰذَا ذِكْرٌ مُبَارَكٌ اَنْزَلْنَاهُۜ  اَفَاَنْتُمْ لَهُ مُنْكِرُونَ۟

And this is a blessed remembrance We sent down. Will you then not recognise it?

وَلَقَدْ اٰتَيْنَٓا اِبْرٰه۪يمَ رُشْدَهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِه۪ عَالِم۪ينَۚ

Walaqad atayna ibraheemarushdahu min qablu wakunna bihi AAalimeen

And We gave Abraham his sound judgment before; and We knew him

Ith qala li-abeehi waqawmihi mahathihi attamatheelu allatee antum lahaAAakifoon

When he said to his father and his people: “What are these statues to which you are devoted?”

قَالُوا وَجَدْنَٓا اٰبَٓاءَنَا لَهَا عَابِد۪ينَ

Qaloo wajadna abaanalaha AAabideen

They said: “We found our fathers serving them.”

He said: “You and your fathers have been in manifest error.”

قَالُٓوا اَجِئْتَنَا بِالْحَقِّ اَمْ اَنْتَ مِنَ اللَّاعِب۪ينَ

They said: “Hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou of those who play?”

قَالَ بَلْ رَبُّكُمْ رَبُّ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ الَّذ۪ي فَطَرَهُنَّۘ وَاَنَا۬ عَلٰى ذٰلِكُمْ مِنَ الشَّاهِد۪ينَ

Qala bal rabbukum rabbu assamawatiwal-ardi allathee fatarahunna waanaAAala thalikum mina ashshahideen

He said: “But your Lord is the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth who created them, and I am of those who bear witness to that.

وَتَاللّٰهِ لَاَك۪يدَنَّ اَصْنَامَكُمْ بَعْدَ اَنْ تُوَلُّوا مُدْبِر۪ينَ

Watallahi laakeedanna asnamakumbaAAda an tuwalloo mudbireen

“And, by God, I will plan against your idols, after you have turned and gone!”

فَجَعَلَهُمْ جُذَاذاً اِلَّا كَب۪يراً لَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ اِلَيْهِ يَرْجِعُونَ

FajaAAalahum juthathan illakabeeran lahum laAAallahum ilayhi yarjiAAoon

And he made them into pieces save a great one they had, that they might return to it.

قَالُوا مَنْ فَعَلَ هٰذَا بِاٰلِهَتِنَٓا اِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الظَّالِم۪ينَ

They said: “Who has done this to our gods, he is surely of the wrongdoers!”

قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا فَتًى يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَـهُٓ اِبْرٰه۪يمُۜ

They said: “We heard a youth make mention of them; he is called Abraham.”

قَالُوا فَأْتُوا بِه۪ عَلٰٓى اَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ

They said: “Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they might bear witness.”

قَالُٓوا ءَاَنْتَ فَعَلْتَ هٰذَا بِاٰلِهَتِنَا يَٓا اِبْرٰه۪يمُۜ

They said: “Didst thou this to our gods, O Abraham?”

He said: “But this their great one did it; so ask them, if they speak.”

فَرَجَعُٓوا اِلٰٓى اَنْفُسِهِمْ فَقَالُٓوا اِنَّكُمْ اَنْتُمُ الظَّالِمُونَۙ

FarajaAAoo ila anfusihim faqalooinnakum antumu aththalimoon

And they returned to themselves and said: “It is you who are the wrongdoers.”

ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا عَلٰى رُؤُ۫سِهِمْۚ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ يَنْطِقُونَ

Thumma nukisoo AAala ruoosihim laqadAAalimta ma haola-i yantiqoon

Then they went back on themselves: “Thou knewest that these speak not.”

قَالَ اَفَتَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ مَا لَا يَنْفَعُكُمْ شَيْـٔاً وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمْۜ

Qala afataAAbudoona min dooni Allahima la yanfaAAukum shay-an wala yadurrukum

He said: “Then serve you, besides God, what can neither benefit you at all nor harm you?

## Verse 67

اُفٍّ لَكُمْ وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِۜ اَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Offin lakum walima taAAbudoona mindooni Allahi afala taAAqiloon

“Fie upon you and all that you serve besides God! Will you then not use reason!”

قَالُوا حَرِّقُوهُ وَانْصُرُٓوا اٰلِهَتَكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ فَاعِل۪ينَ

They said: “Burn him, and support your gods, if you are doers!”

قُلْنَا يَا نَارُ كُون۪ي بَرْداً وَسَلَاماً عَلٰٓى اِبْرٰه۪يمَۙ

Qulna ya naru kooneebardan wasalaman AAala ibraheem

We said: “O fire: be thou coolness and safety upon Abraham.”

## Verse 70

وَاَرَادُوا بِه۪ كَيْداً فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْاَخْسَر۪ينَۚ

Waaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumual-akhsareen

And they desired a plan for him, but We made them the greatest losers,

## Verse 71

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَلُوطاً اِلَى الْاَرْضِ الَّت۪ي بَارَكْنَا ف۪يهَا لِلْعَالَم۪ينَ

Wanajjaynahu walootan ilaal-ardi allatee barakna feeha lilAAalameen

And We delivered him and Lot to the land We had blessed for all mankind.

## Verse 72

وَوَهَبْنَا لَـهُٓ اِسْحٰقَۜ وَيَعْقُوبَ نَافِلَةًۜ وَكُلاًّ جَعَلْنَا صَالِح۪ينَ

Wawahabna lahu ishaqawayaAAqooba nafilatan wakullan jaAAalna saliheen

And We gave him Isaac, and Jacob in addition; and each We made righteous,

## Verse 73

وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ اَئِمَّةً يَهْدُونَ بِاَمْرِنَا وَاَوْحَيْنَٓا اِلَيْهِمْ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ وَاِقَامَ الصَّلٰوةِ وَا۪يتَٓاءَ الزَّكٰوةِۚ وَكَانُوا لَنَا عَابِد۪ينَۙ

WajaAAalnahum a-immatan yahdoonabi-amrina waawhayna ilayhim fiAAla alkhayratiwa-iqama assalati wa-eetaa azzakatiwakanoo lana AAabideen

And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command, and revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and the upholding of duty, and the rendering of the purity; and Us they served.

## Verse 74

وَلُوطاً اٰتَيْنَاهُ حُكْماً وَعِلْماً وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْقَرْيَةِ الَّت۪ي كَانَتْ تَعْمَلُ الْخَبَٓائِثَۜ اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمَ سَوْءٍ فَاسِق۪ينَۙ

Walootan ataynahu hukmanwaAAilman wanajjaynahu mina alqaryati allatee kanattaAAmalu alkhaba-itha innahum kanoo qawma saw-in fasiqeen

And Lot: We gave him judgment and knowledge; and We delivered him from the city that was doing bad deeds; they were an evil people, perfidious;

## Verse 75

وَاَدْخَلْنَاهُ ف۪ي رَحْمَتِنَاۜ اِنَّهُ مِنَ الصَّالِح۪ينَ۟

Waadkhalnahu fee rahmatinainnahu mina assaliheen

And We made him enter into Our mercy; he was among the righteous.

## Verse 76

وَنُوحاً اِذْ نَادٰى مِنْ قَبْلُ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَاَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظ۪يمِۚ

Wanoohan ith nadamin qablu fastajabna lahu fanajjaynahuwaahlahu mina alkarbi alAAatheem

And Noah: when he called before, then We responded to him and delivered him and his household from the great distress.

## Verse 77

وَنَصَرْنَاهُ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الَّذ۪ينَ كَذَّبُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَاۜ اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمَ سَوْءٍ فَاَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ اَجْمَع۪ينَ

Wanasarnahu mina alqawmi allatheenakaththaboo bi-ayatina innahum kanooqawma saw-in faaghraqnahum ajmaAAeen

And We helped him against the people who denied Our proofs; they were a people of evil, so We drowned them all together.

## Verse 78

وَدَاوُ۫دَ وَسُلَيْمٰنَ اِذْ يَحْكُمَانِ فِي الْحَرْثِ اِذْ نَفَشَتْ ف۪يهِ غَنَمُ الْقَوْمِۚ وَكُنَّا لِحُكْمِهِمْ شَاهِد۪ينَۙ

Wadawooda wasulaymana ithyahkumani fee alharthi ith nafashatfeehi ghanamu alqawmi wakunna lihukmihim shahideen

And David and Solomon: when they passed judgment concerning the tilth, when the sheep of the people had strayed and pastured therein; and We were witnesses to their judgment.

## Verse 79

فَفَهَّمْنَاهَا سُلَيْمٰنَۚ وَكُلاًّ اٰتَيْنَا حُكْماً وَعِلْماًۘ وَسَخَّرْنَا مَعَ دَاوُ۫دَ الْجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحْنَ وَالطَّيْرَۜ وَكُنَّا فَاعِل۪ينَ

Fafahhamnaha sulaymanawakullan atayna hukman waAAilman wasakhkharnamaAAa dawooda aljibala yusabbihna wattayrawakunna faAAileen

And We gave understanding of it to Solomon; and to each We gave judgment and knowledge. And We made subject with David the mountains giving glory, and the birds. And We are the doers.

## Verse 80

وَعَلَّمْنَاهُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوسٍ لَكُمْ لِتُحْصِنَكُمْ مِنْ بَأْسِكُمْۚ فَهَلْ اَنْتُمْ شَاكِرُونَ

WaAAallamnahu sanAAatalaboosin lakum lituhsinakum min ba/sikum fahal antum shakiroon

And We taught him the making of garments for you, to protect you from your might; are you then grateful?

## Verse 81

وَلِسُلَيْمٰنَ الرّ۪يحَ عَاصِفَةً تَجْر۪ي بِاَمْرِه۪ٓ اِلَى الْاَرْضِ الَّت۪ي بَارَكْنَا ف۪يهَاۜ وَكُنَّا بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَالِم۪ينَ

Walisulaymana arreehaAAasifatan tajree bi-amrihi ila al-ardiallatee barakna feeha wakunna bikullishay-in AAalimeen

And to Solomon: the wind raging, running by his command to the land that We had blessed; and We knew everything.

## Verse 82

وَمِنَ الشَّيَاط۪ينِ مَنْ يَغُوصُونَ لَهُ وَيَعْمَلُونَ عَمَلاً دُونَ ذٰلِكَۚ وَكُنَّا لَهُمْ حَافِظ۪ينَۙ

Wamina ashshayateeni manyaghoosoona lahu wayaAAmaloona AAamalan doona thalikawakunna lahum hafitheen

And among the satans were those diving for him, and doing work besides that; and We were over them a guardian.

## Verse 83

وَاَيُّوبَ اِذْ نَادٰى رَبَّهُٓ اَنّ۪ي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَاَنْتَ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِم۪ينَۚ

Waayyooba ith nadarabbahu annee massaniya addurru waanta arhamuarrahimeen

And Job: when he called to his Lord: “Adversity has touched me, and Thou art the most merciful of those who show mercy,”

## Verse 84

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِه۪ مِنْ ضُرٍّ وَاٰتَيْنَاهُ اَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُمْ مَعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِنَا وَذِكْرٰى لِلْعَابِد۪ينَ

Fastajabna lahu fakashafnama bihi min durrin waataynahu ahlahuwamithlahum maAAahum rahmatan min AAindina wathikralilAAabideen

Then We answered him, and removed what was upon him of adversity. And We gave him his household and their like with them as a mercy from Us and a reminder to those who serve.

## Verse 85

وَاِسْمٰع۪يلَ وَاِدْر۪يسَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِۜ  كُلٌّ مِنَ الصَّابِر۪ينَۚ

Wa-ismaAAeela wa-idreesa wathaalkifli kullun mina assabireen

And Ishmael and Idrīs and Dhūl-Kifl: each was among the patient,

وَاَدْخَلْنَاهُمْ ف۪ي رَحْمَتِنَاۜ اِنَّهُمْ مِنَ الصَّالِح۪ينَ

Waadkhalnahum fee rahmatinainnahum mina assaliheen

And We made them enter into Our mercy; they were among the righteous.

## Verse 87

وَذَا النُّونِ اِذْ ذَهَبَ مُغَاضِباً فَظَنَّ اَنْ لَنْ نَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادٰى فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ اَنْ لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّٓا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَۗ اِنّ۪ي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِم۪ينَۚ

Watha annooni ith thahabamughadiban fathanna an lan naqdira AAalayhifanada fee aththulumatian la ilaha illa anta subhanaka inneekuntu mina aththalimeen

And Dhūl-Nūn: when he left in wrath, and thought that We would have no power over him; then he called in the darkness: “There is no god save Thou. Glory be to Thee! I have been among the wrongdoers!”

## Verse 88

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۙ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْغَمِّۜ وَكَذٰلِكَ نُنْجِي الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ

Fastajabna lahu wanajjaynahumina alghammi wakathalika nunjee almu/mineen

So We responded to him, and delivered him from distress. And thus do We deliver the believers.

## Verse 89

وَزَكَرِيَّٓا اِذْ نَادٰى رَبَّهُ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْن۪ي فَرْداً وَاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِث۪ينَۚ

Wazakariyya ith nadarabbahu rabbi la tatharnee fardan waanta khayru alwaritheen

And Zachariah: when he called to his Lord: “My Lord: leave Thou me not solitary; and Thou art the best of inheritors,”

## Verse 90

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۘ وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ يَحْيٰى وَاَصْلَحْنَا لَهُ زَوْجَهُۜ اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَباً وَرَهَباًۜ وَكَانُوا لَنَا خَاشِع۪ينَ

Fastajabna lahu wawahabnalahu yahya waaslahna lahuzawjahu innahum kanoo yusariAAoona fee alkhayratiwayadAAoonana raghaban warahaban wakanoo lanakhashiAAeen

Then We answered him, and gave him John, and made right his wife for him. They competed in good deeds, and called to Us in hope and fear; and they were humble towards Us.

## Verse 91

وَالَّت۪ٓي اَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا ف۪يهَا مِنْ رُوحِنَا وَجَعَلْنَاهَا وَابْنَهَٓا اٰيَةً لِلْعَالَم۪ينَ

Wallatee ahsanat farjahafanafakhna feeha min roohinawajaAAalnaha wabnaha ayatanlilAAalameen

And she who guarded her chastity: We breathed into her of Our Spirit, and made her and her son a proof for all mankind.

## Verse 92

اِنَّ هٰذِه۪ٓ اُمَّتُكُمْ اُمَّةً وَاحِدَةًۘ وَاَنَا۬ رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُونِ

Inna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatanwaana rabbukum faoAAbudoon

This, your community, is one community, and I am your Lord; so serve Me.

## Verse 93

وَتَقَطَّعُٓوا اَمْرَهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْۜ كُلٌّ اِلَيْنَا رَاجِعُونَ۟

WataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahum kullunilayna rajiAAoon

But they divided their affair between them; all are returning to Us.

## Verse 94

فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَا كُفْرَانَ لِسَعْيِه۪ۚ وَاِنَّا لَهُ كَاتِبُونَ

Faman yaAAmal mina assalihatiwahuwa mu/minun fala kufrana lisaAAyihi wa-innalahu katiboon

And whoso works any righteous deeds, and is a believer: there is no rejection of his effort, and We are writers for him.

## Verse 95

وَحَرَامٌ عَلٰى قَرْيَةٍ اَهْلَكْنَاهَٓا اَنَّهُمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ

Waharamun AAalaqaryatin ahlaknaha annahum la yarjiAAoon

And a prohibition is upon a city that We have destroyed, that they shall not return.

## Verse 96

حَتّٰٓى اِذَا فُتِحَتْ يَأْجُوجُ وَمَأْجُوجُ وَهُمْ مِنْ كُلِّ حَدَبٍ يَنْسِلُونَ

Hatta itha futihatya/jooju wama/jooju wahum min kulli hadabin yansiloon

When Ya’jūj and Ma’jūj have been loosed, and they from every elevation hasten forth[...]

## Verse 97

وَاقْتَرَبَ الْوَعْدُ الْحَقُّ فَاِذَا هِيَ شَاخِصَةٌ اَبْصَارُ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُواۜ يَا وَيْلَنَا قَدْ كُنَّا ف۪ي غَفْلَةٍ مِنْ هٰذَا بَلْ كُنَّا ظَالِم۪ينَ

Waqtaraba alwaAAdu alhaqqufa-itha hiya shakhisatun absaru allatheenakafaroo ya waylana qad kunna fee ghaflatinmin hatha bal kunna thalimeen

And drawn nigh has the true promise; and then the eyes of those who ignore warning will stare: “Woe is us! We had been in heedlessness of this. The truth is, we were wrongdoers.”

## Verse 98

اِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَۜ اَنْتُمْ لَهَا وَارِدُونَ

Innakum wama taAAbudoona min dooniAllahi hasabu jahannama antum laha waridoon

You and what you serve, besides God, are the fuel of Gehenna! You will arrive at it.

## Verse 99

لَوْ كَانَ هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ اٰلِهَةً مَا وَرَدُوهَاۜ وَكُلٌّ ف۪يهَا خَالِدُونَ

Law kana haola-i alihatanma waradooha wakullun feeha khalidoon

Had these been gods, they would not have arrived at it; but all are therein abiding eternally.

## Verse 100

لَهُمْ ف۪يهَا زَف۪يرٌ وَهُمْ ف۪يهَا لَا يَسْمَعُونَ

Lahum feeha zafeerun wahum feehala yasmaAAoon

They have therein roaring; and therein they hear not.

## Verse 101

اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ سَبَقَتْ لَهُمْ مِنَّا الْحُسْنٰٓىۙ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ عَنْهَا مُبْعَدُونَۙ

Inna allatheena sabaqat lahum minnaalhusna ola-ika AAanha mubAAadoon

Those for whom the best from Us has preceded — those are from it far removed;

## Verse 102

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ حَس۪يسَهَاۚ وَهُمْ ف۪ي مَا اشْتَهَتْ اَنْفُسُهُمْ خَالِدُونَۚ

La yasmaAAoona haseesahawahum fee ma ishtahat anfusuhum khalidoon

They hear not a whisper thereof; and they in what their souls desired abide eternally.

لَا يَحْزُنُهُمُ الْفَزَعُ الْاَكْبَرُ وَتَتَلَقّٰيهُمُ الْمَلٰٓئِكَةُۜ هٰذَا يَوْمُكُمُ الَّذ۪ي كُنْتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ

La yahzunuhumu alfazaAAual-akbaru watatalaqqahumu almala-ikatu hathayawmukumu allathee kuntum tooAAadoon

The greatest terror will not grieve them, and the angels will receive them: — “This is your day which you were promised” —

## Verse 104

يَوْمَ نَطْوِي السَّمَٓاءَ كَطَيِّ السِّجِلِّ لِلْكُتُبِۜ كَمَا بَدَأْنَٓا اَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُع۪يدُهُۜ وَعْداً عَلَيْنَاۜ اِنَّا كُنَّا فَاعِل۪ينَ

Yawma natwee assamaakatayyi assijlli lilkutubi kama bada/naawwala khalqin nuAAeeduhu waAAdan AAalayna innakunna faAAileen

The day We fold up the heaven like the folding up of a scroll for the writs. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it — a promise binding upon Us. Truly, We are the doers.

## Verse 105

وَلَقَدْ كَتَبْنَا فِي الزَّبُورِ مِنْ بَعْدِ الذِّكْرِ اَنَّ الْاَرْضَ يَرِثُهَا عِبَادِيَ الصَّالِحُونَ

Walaqad katabna fee azzaboorimin baAAdi aththikri anna al-arda yarithuhaAAibadiya assalihoon

And We decreed in the Psalms after the remembrance: “My righteous servants will inherit the earth.”

## Verse 106

اِنَّ ف۪ي هٰذَا لَبَلَاغاً لِقَوْمٍ عَابِد۪ينَۜ

Inna fee hatha labalaghanliqawmin AAabideen

In this is a notification for people who serve.

وَمَٓا اَرْسَلْنَاكَ اِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِلْعَالَم۪ينَ

Wama arsalnaka illa rahmatanlilAAalameen

And We sent thee only as a mercy for all mankind.

## Verse 108

قُلْ اِنَّمَا يُوحٰٓى اِلَيَّ اَنَّـمَٓا اِلٰهُكُمْ اِلٰهٌ وَاحِدٌۚ فَهَلْ اَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ

Qul innama yooha ilayya annamailahukum ilahun wahidun fahal antummuslimoon

Say thou: “It is revealed to me that your God is One God. Will you then be submitting?”

## Verse 109

فَاِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقُلْ اٰذَنْتُكُمْ عَلٰى سَوَٓاءٍۜ وَاِنْ اَدْر۪ٓي اَقَر۪يبٌ اَمْ بَع۪يدٌ مَا تُوعَدُونَ

Fa-in tawallaw faqul athantukum AAalasawa-in wa-in adree aqareebun am baAAeedun matooAAadoon

And if they turn away, say thou: “I have proclaimed to you all alike; and I know not whether near or far is what you are promised.

## Verse 110

اِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْتُمُونَ

Innahu yaAAlamu aljahra mina alqawliwayaAAlamu ma taktumoon

“He knows what is public of speech, and He knows what you conceal.

## Verse 111

وَاِنْ اَدْر۪ي لَعَلَّهُ فِتْنَةٌ لَكُمْ وَمَتَاعٌ اِلٰى ح۪ينٍ

Wa-in adree laAAallahu fitnatun lakum wamataAAunila heen

“And I know not; it might be a means of denial for you and enjoyment for a time.”

قَالَ رَبِّ احْكُمْ بِالْحَقِّۜ وَرَبُّنَا الرَّحْمٰنُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلٰى مَا تَصِفُونَ

Qala rabbi ohkum bilhaqqiwarabbuna arrahmanu almustaAAanuAAala ma tasifoon

Say thou: “My Lord: judge Thou with justice. And our Lord is the Almighty, the one whose aid is sought against what you describe.”
