Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle) — سورة الأنعام - **Verse:** 69 / 165 · **Juz:** 7 · **Mushaf page:** 135 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-anam/verse-69 ## Arabic وَمَا عَلَى الَّذ۪ينَ يَتَّقُونَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ وَلٰكِنْ ذِكْرٰى لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ ## Transcription Wama AAala allatheenayattaqoona min hisabihim min shay-in walakinthikra laAAallahum yattaqoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Abandon those who have turned their deen into a game and a diversion and who have been deluded by the life of this world. Remind by it lest a person is delivered up to destruction for what he has earned with no protector or intercessor besides Allah. Were he to offer every kind of compensation, it would not be accepted from him. Such people are delivered up to destruction for what they have earned. They will have scalding water to drink and a painful punishment because they were kafir. ### Progressive Muslims And the righteous are not required to take responsibility for them, but a reminder so perhaps they will be aware. ### Shabbir Ahmed Those who walk aright bear no responsibility for them, except decent follow up reminders, so that the fellow human beings might reflect and come to walk the Right Path. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And not upon those of prudent fear is any account for them in anything but a reminder, that they might be in prudent fear. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation And those who are righteous are not responsible for their judgement, but to remind; perhaps they will be aware. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament The righteous are not responsible for the utterances of those people, but it may help to remind them; perhaps they may be saved. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira As for the heedful and devout, they are not accountable for them, but should give advice: They may haply come to fear God. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And those who fear Allah are not held accountable for the disbelievers at all, but [only for] a reminder - that perhaps they will fear Him. ### Muhammad Asad for whom those who are conscious of God are in no wise accountable. Theirs, however, is the duty to admonish [the sinners], so that they might become conscious of God. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Those who ward off (evil) are not accountable for them in aught, but the Reminder (must be given them) that haply they (too) may ward off (evil). ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary For those who are God-fearing are by no means accountable for the others except that it is their duty to adinonish them; maybe then, they will shun evil.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] Those who avoid disobedience to God will not be held responsible for the errors of those who disobey. This being the case, the former have no justification for taking it upon themselves to persuade the latter to obedience or to consider themselves obliged to answer all their questions, however absurd and flimsy, until the Truth is forced down their throats. Their duty is merely to admonish and place the Truth before those whom they find stumbling about in error. If there is no response to this call except remonstration and obstinate argument they are under no obligation to waste their time and energy on them. They should rather devote their time and energy to instructing and admonishing those who have an urge to seek out the Truth. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Those who entertain the profound reverence dutiful to Allah are in no way accountable to Allah for the deeds or actions of the wrongful However they should put them in mind of the truth hoping to bring them to their senses and. Induce them to entertain the profound reverence dutiful to Allah. ### Bijan Moeinian The righteous people are surely not responsible for the mockery of the disbelievers. However, if they admonish the disbelievers, the latter may come to their senses. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Those who fear Allâh, keep their duty to Him and avoid evil are not responsible for them (the disbelievers) in any case, but (their duty) is to remind them, that they may fear Allah (and refrain from mocking at the Qur’ân).
