Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle) — سورة الأنعام - **Verse:** 20 / 165 · **Juz:** 7 · **Mushaf page:** 129 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-anam/verse-20 ## Arabic اَلَّذ۪ينَ اٰتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَعْرِفُونَهُ كَمَا يَعْرِفُونَ اَبْنَٓاءَهُمْۢ اَلَّذ۪ينَ خَسِرُٓوا اَنْفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ۟ ## Transcription Allatheena ataynahumualkitaba yaAArifoonahu kama yaAArifoona abnaahumallatheena khasiroo anfusahum fahum la yu/minoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Those We have given the Book recognise it as they recognise their own children. As for those who have lost their own selves, they have no iman. ### Progressive Muslims Those to whom We have given the Scripture know it as they know their children. Those who lost their souls, they do not believe. ### Shabbir Ahmed Those who have been given the Scripture, recognize this fact as they recognize their sons (the fact of God's Transcendental Uniqueness and Oneness). Yet those who have squandered their own "Self" fail to accept such undeniable Truth. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Those to whom We gave the Writ recognise it as they recognise their sons. Those who will lose themselves [in the Hereafter] do not believe. ### Muhammad Asad They unto whom we have vouchsafed revelation aforetime know this as they know their own children; yet those [of them] who have squandered their own selves -it is they who refuse to believe. ### Marmaduke Pickthall Those unto whom We gave the Scripture recognise (this revelation) as they recognise their sons. Those who ruin their own souls will not believe. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Those whom We have given the Book will recognize this just as they recognize their own ofspring;[1] but those who have courted their own ruin will not believe. _Footnotes_ - [1] Those who have knowledge of the Scriptures know for sure that God is One alone and that no one shares His godhead with Him. It is true that one can spot one's own child even in the midst of a large crowd of children. The same can be said about those well-versed in the Scriptures. Even if the true concept of godhead were interspersed among numerous false beliefs and concepts about God, those well-versed in the scriptural lore would be able to recognize without doubt which doctrine was true. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Those who were recipients of Our Word -Jews and Christians- to whom We gave the Book -AL-Tawrah and AL-Injil (Torah and Bible) do recognize this Book -the Quran- as well as the Messenger to whom it is sent. They assert the existence of this reality as much as they are able to assert the identity of their sons, but those who are cheaply vicious to the perdition of their own souls refuse to recognize the truth. ### Bijan Moeinian Those who have received the Scriptures (Jews & Christians) recognize this [that Qur'an is the word of God] as clearly as they recognize their own children. Only those [among them] choose to disagree that have lost their souls. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Those to whom We have given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) recognize him (i.e. Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم as a Messenger of Allâh, and they also know that there is no Ilâh (God) but Allâh and Islâm is Allâh’s Religion), as they recognize their own sons.
