Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle) — سورة الأنعام - **Verse:** 114 / 165 · **Juz:** 8 · **Mushaf page:** 141 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-anam/verse-114 ## Arabic اَفَغَيْرَ اللّٰهِ اَبْتَغ۪ي حَكَماً وَهُوَ الَّـذ۪ٓي اَنْزَلَ اِلَيْكُمُ الْكِتَابَ مُفَصَّلاًۜ وَالَّذ۪ينَ اٰتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَعْلَمُونَ اَنَّهُ مُنَزَّلٌ مِنْ رَبِّكَ بِالْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُمْتَر۪ينَ ## Transcription Afaghayra Allahi abtaghee hakamanwahuwa allathee anzala ilaykumu alkitaba mufassalanwallatheena ataynahumu alkitabayaAAlamoona annahu munazzalun min rabbika bilhaqqifala takoonanna mina almumtareen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley ‘Am I to desire someone other than Allah as a judge when it is He who has sent down the Book to you clarifying everything?’ Those We have given the Book know it has been sent down from your Lord with truth, so on no account be among the doubters. ### Progressive Muslims "Shall I seek other than God as a judge when He has sent down to you this Scripture fully detailed" Those to whom We have given the Scripture know it is sent down from your Lord with truth; so do not be of those who have doubt. ### Shabbir Ahmed Say, "Shall I seek for Judge and Ruler someone other than Allah? He it is Who has revealed this Book, well expounded in detail for you. " Those whom We have given the Book know that this is revealed in Truth from your Lord. You shall not harbor any doubt.* ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira (Say): "Then should I seek (the source of) law elsewhere than God, when it is He who has revealed this Book to you, which distinctly explains (everything)?" Those to whom We have given the Book know it has been sent by your Lord in truth. So be not a sceptic. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) [Say], "Then is it other than Allah I should seek as judge while it is He who has revealed to you the Book explained in detail?" And those to whom We [previously] gave the Scripture know that it is sent down from your Lord in truth, so never be among the doubters. ### Muhammad Asad [say thou:] "Am I, then, to look unto anyone but God for judgment [as to what is right and wrong], when it is He who has bestowed upon you from on high this divine writ, clearly spelling out the truth?" And those unto whom We have vouchsafed revelation aforetime know that this one, too, has been bestowed from on high, step by step, by thy Sustainer. Be not, then, among the doubters- ### Marmaduke Pickthall Shall I seek other than Allah for judge, when He it is Who hath revealed unto you (this) Scripture, fully explained? Those unto whom We gave the Scripture (aforetime) know that it is revealed from thy Lord in truth. So be not thou (O Muhammad) of the waverers. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Shall I look upon anyone apart from Allah for judgement when it is He Who has revealed to you the Book in detail?[1] And those whom We gave the Book (before you) know that this (Book) has been revealed in truth by your Lord. Do not, then, be among the doubters.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] The implied speaker in this sentence is the Prophet (peace be on him) and the words are addressed to the Muslims. The purpose of the sentence is to impress upon the Muslims that God has elucidated the relevant truths, and has also proclaimed that in their endeavour to make the Truth prevail they will have to follow the path of striving and struggle. The devotees of the Truth should, therefore, resort to those means which human beings normally employ for the successful achievement of their objectives rather than wait for any supernatural intervention that would enable them to achieve their mission without struggle and sacrifice. Moreover, since God Himself had chosen that human effort rather than supernatural intervention should lead to the prevalence of the Truth, who had the power to change this basic fact and bring about the victory of the Truth without any resort to human effort and sacrifice. - [2] This is no mere concoction designed to explain away the current problems. All those versed in the Scriptures, and possessing true understanding of the mission of the Prophets (peace be on them all), will confirm that everything in the Qur'an is perfectly true and in fact constitutes that eternal truth which cannot suffer any change or modification. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Say to them O Muhammad: "Shall I choose a judge besides Allah when it is He Who makes and gives the law whereas all other judges only interpret it? It is He Who has sent down -the Quran- distinctly expressing all that is meant leaving nothing merely implied, ". Ahl al-Kitab know it is Allah's sent Book in all truth. Therefore, do not let O Muhammad those who hide the truth and contend with opposing arguments influence your feelings or put you in doubt. ### Bijan Moeinian Say: "Who better than God can judge between us? Do you know any better judge than the Lord Who has sent this Book which explains everything in detail?" The people of the Scripture know well that this Book in all truth is revealed from God. Therefore, do not harbor any doubt about [the Divine source of] this Book. ### Al-Hilali & Khan [Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم)] "Shall I seek a judge other than Allâh while it is He Who has sent down unto you the Book (the Qur’ân), explained in detail." Those unto whom We gave the Scripture [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] know that it is revealed from your Lord in truth. So be not you of those who doubt. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Say: "Shall I seek for judge other than Allah? - when He it is Who hath sent unto you the Book, explained in detail." They know full well, to whom We have given the Book, that it hath been sent down from thy Lord in truth. Never be then of those who doubt. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran ˹Say, O  Prophet,˺ "Should I seek a judge other than Allah while He is the One Who has revealed for you the Book ˹with the truth˺ perfectly explained?" Those who were given the Scripture know that it has been revealed ˹to you˺ from your Lord in truth. So do not be one of those who doubt. ### Taqi Usmani So, should I seek someone other than Allah as judge, while it is He who has sent down to you the Book in details? Those We have given the Book know that it is revealed from your Lord with the truth. So, never be one of those who are in suspicion. ### Abdul Haleem [Say], ‘Shall I seek any judge other than God, when it is He who has sent down for you [people] the Scripture, clearly explained?’ Those to whom We gave the Scripture know that this [Quran] is revealed by your Lord [Prophet] with the truth, so do not be one of those who doubt. ### Arthur John Arberry What, shall I seek after any judge but God? For it is He who sent down to you the Book well-distinguished; and those whom We have given the Book know it is sent down from thy Lord with the truth; so be not thou of the doubters. ### E. So, be not you of those who doubt. ### Mahmoud Ghali (say, ) "Then, shall I inequitably seek other than Allah for arbiter, and He is (The One) Who has sent down to you the Book (clearly) expounded?" And the ones to whom We brought the Book know that it is being sent down from your Lord with the Truth, so do not definitely be of the constant wranglers. ### George Sale Shall I seek after any other judge besides God to judge between us? It is He who hath sent down unto you the book of the Koran distinguishing between good and evil; and they to whom We gave the scripture know that it is sent down from thy Lord, with truth. Be not therefore one of those who doubt thereof. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed Say: "Shall I try to find a judge (anyone) other than Allah? When He it is Who has sent to you the Book, (and) explained in detail. " They know fully well to whom We have given the Book, that it has been sent down from your Lord in truth. Then, never be of those (people) who doubt. ### Amatul Rahman Omar (Say, ) `What! shall I seek for a judge (to decide between us) other than Allâh, when it is He, Who has revealed to you this perfect Book clearly explained?' Şu halde, sakın kuşkuya kapılanlardan olma. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim (Habibim, de ki:) "O, size o kitabı (kendinde hak ile baatıl tamamen) açıklanmış (ayırd edilmiş) bir halde indirmişken (benimle sizin aranızda tutub da) Allahdan başka bir hakem mi arayacak mışım"? Öyleyse sakın şüpheye düşenlerden olma. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı sen onlara (de ki:) "Hakikati apaçık ortaya koyan bu ilahi kelamı size indiren O iken, (neyin doğru neyin yanlış olduğu konusundaki) hüküm için Ondan başkasını mı arayacağım?" Ve kendilerine daha önce vahiy bahşettiklerimiz bilirler ki bu (vahiy) de Rabbin tarafından safha safha indirilmiştir.
