# 87. Surah Al-A'la

_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْاَعْلٰىۙ

Sabbihi isma rabbika al-aAAla

Glorify thou the name of thy Lord, the Most High,

## Verse 2

اَلَّذ۪ي خَلَقَ فَسَوّٰىۙۖ

Allathee khalaqa fasawwa

Who created and fashioned,

## Verse 3

وَالَّذ۪ي قَدَّرَ فَهَدٰىۙۖ

Wallathee qaddara fahada

And who determined and guided,

## Verse 4

وَالَّـذ۪ٓي اَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعٰىۙۖ

Wallathee akhraja almarAAa

And who brought forth the pasture

## Verse 5

فَجَعَلَهُ غُثَٓاءً اَحْوٰىۜ

FajaAAalahu ghuthaan ahwa

Then made it blackening decaying herbage

## Verse 6

سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنْسٰىۙ

Sanuqri-oka fala tansa

(We will make thee recite, and thou wilt not forget.)

## Verse 7

اِلَّا مَا شَٓاءَ اللّٰهُۜ  اِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفٰىۜ

Illa ma shaa Allahuinnahu yaAAlamu aljahra wama yakhfa

Save that God should will; He knows the apparent and the hidden.

## Verse 8

وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرٰىۚ

Wanuyassiruka lilyusra

And We will ease thee towards ease.

## Verse 9

فَذَكِّرْ اِنْ نَفَعَتِ الذِّكْرٰىۜ

Fathakkir in nafaAAati aththikra

So remind thou; if the reminder should benefit

## Verse 10

سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَنْ يَخْشٰىۙ

Sayaththakkaru man yakhsha

He will take heed who fears.

## Verse 11

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْاَشْقٰىۙ

Wayatajannabuha al-ashqa

But the most wretched will avoid it,

## Verse 12

اَلَّذ۪ي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْـكُبْرٰىۚ

Allathee yasla annaraalkubra

Who will burn in the Great Fire,

## Verse 13

ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ ف۪يهَا وَلَا يَحْيٰىۜ

Thumma la yamootu feeha walayahya

Then will he neither die therein nor live.

## Verse 14

قَدْ اَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكّٰىۙ

Qad aflaha man tazakka

He is successful who has purified himself,

## Verse 15

وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّه۪ فَصَلّٰىۜ

Wathakara isma rabbihi fasalla

And remembers the name of his Lord and performs the duty.

## Verse 16

بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيٰوةَ الدُّنْيَاۘ

Bal tu/thiroona alhayata addunya

The truth is, you prefer the life of this world

## Verse 17

وَالْاٰخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَاَبْـقٰىۜ

Wal-akhiratu khayrun waabqa

When the Hereafter is better and more enduring.

## Verse 18

اِنَّ هٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْاُو۫لٰىۙ

Inna hatha lafee assuhufial-oola

This is in the former scriptures,

## Verse 19

صُحُفِ اِبْرٰه۪يمَ وَمُوسٰى

Suhufi ibraheema wamoosa

The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
