Surah Al-Ahzab (The Clans) — سورة الأحزاب - **Verse:** 30 / 73 · **Juz:** 21 · **Mushaf page:** 420 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-al-ahzab/verse-30 ## Arabic يَا نِسَٓاءَ النَّبِيِّ مَنْ يَأْتِ مِنْكُنَّ بِفَاحِشَةٍ مُبَيِّنَةٍ يُضَاعَفْ لَهَا الْعَذَابُ ضِعْفَيْنِۜ وَكَانَ ذٰلِكَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ يَس۪يراً ## Transcription Ya nisaa annabiyyi manya/ti minkunna bifahishatin mubayyinatin yudaAAaflaha alAAathabu diAAfayni wakana thalikaAAala Allahi yaseera ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Wives of the Prophet! if any of you commits an obvious act of indecency she will receive double the punishment. That is an easy matter for Allah. ### Progressive Muslims O wives of the prophet, if any of you commits evident lewdness, then the retribution will be doubled for her. This is easy for God to do. ### Shabbir Ahmed O Wives of the Prophet! (You will be seen as role models for other women, therefore), if any of you displays unseemly conduct, double would be her suffering, for indeed, that is easy for Allah. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation O wives of the Prophet: whoso among you commits manifest sexual immorality, for her the punishment is doubled; and that is easy for God. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation O women of the prophet, if any of you commits evident immorality, then her retribution will be doubled. This is how (the innate law of) God works inevitably. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) O wives of the Prophet, whoever of you should commit a clear immorality - for her the punishment would be doubled two fold, and ever is that, for Allah, easy. ### Muhammad Asad O wives of the Prophet! If any of you were to become guilty of manifestly immoral conduct, double [that of other sinners] would be her suffering [in the hereafter]: for that is indeed easy for God. ### Marmaduke Pickthall O ye wives of the Prophet! Whosoever of you committeth manifest lewdness, the punishment for her will be doubled, and that is easy for Allah. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Wives of the Prophet, if any of you commit flagrant indecency, her chastisement shall be doubled.[1] That is easy for Allah.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] This does not mean that there was, God forbid, any chance of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) wives committing an indecency, but this was meant to make them realize that they were the mothers of the Muslims; therefore, their responsibilities were accordingly very high, and so their moral conduct should be the purest. This is just like Allah’s addressing the Prophet (peace be upon him) to the effect: "If you committed shirk, all your deeds would be rendered vain." (Surah Az-Zumar: Ayat 65). This also does not mean that there was, God forbid, any chance of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) committing shirk, but this is meant to make the Prophet (peace be upon him) realize, and through him the common Muslims, that shirk, is a most heinous crime which must be guarded against most judiciously. - [2] That is, "You should not be under the delusion that your being the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) wives will protect you from Allah’s punishment, or that it will be difficult for Allah to call you to account on account of your high rank and position in the world." ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab O you the wives of the Prophet: Should any of you commit herself to an evil line of conduct and/or be guilty of proven violation of the marriage bed then in two ways shall her punishment be doubled here and Hereafter and nothing is easier for Allah to do. ### Bijan Moeinian The wives of the Prophet should know that if they commit an indecency, God will punish them twice as much as He would have punished an ordinary person for it; and you know that this is very easy for God to do it. … ### Al-Hilali & Khan O wives of the Prophet! Whoever of you commits an open illegal sexual intercourse, the torment for her will be doubled, and that is ever easy for Allâh. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali O Consorts of the Prophet!
