Yet We bequeathed these things to another people. ### Progressive Muslims Thus it was!; and We caused another people to inherit it. ### Shabbir Ahmed Thus it was! And We made another people heirs. (26:59-63). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Thus! And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left], ### Marmaduke Pickthall Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] Hasan Basri says that "other people" here implies the children of Israel, whom Allah made heirs of the land of Egypt after Pharaoh’s people, and Qatadah says it implies the other people who inherited Egypt after the people of Pharaoh, for the history does not make any mention that the Israelites ever returned to Egypt after the exodus and inherited it. This same point has been disputed by the later commentators also.
