_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

حٰمٓۜ

Ha-meem

ḥā mīm

## Verse 2

وَالْكِتَابِ الْمُب۪ينِۙ

Walkitabi almubeen

By the Clear Writ!

## Verse 3

اِنَّٓا اَنْزَلْنَاهُ ف۪ي لَيْلَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ اِنَّا كُنَّا مُنْذِر۪ينَ

Inna anzalnahu fee laylatin mubarakatininna kunna munthireen

We sent it down on a blessed night — We are warning —

## Verse 4

ف۪يهَا يُفْرَقُ كُـلُّ اَمْرٍ حَـك۪يمٍۜ

Feeha yufraqu kullu amrin hakeem

Wherein is separated every wise command

## Verse 5

اَمْراً مِنْ عِنْدِنَاۜ اِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِل۪ينَۚ

Amran min AAindina inna kunnamursileen

By command from Us — We are sending —

## Verse 6

رَحْمَةً مِنْ رَبِّكَۜ اِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّم۪يعُ الْعَل۪يمُۙ

Rahmatan min rabbika innahu huwa assameeAAualAAaleem

As mercy from thy Lord; He is the Hearing, the Knowing,

## Verse 7

رَبِّ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَاۢ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُوقِن۪ينَ

Rabbi assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma in kuntum mooqineen

Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and what is between them, if you are certain.

## Verse 8

لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ يُحْـي۪ وَيُم۪يتُۜ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ اٰبَٓائِكُمُ الْاَوَّل۪ينَ

La ilaha illa huwa yuhyeewayumeetu rabbukum warabbu aba-ikumu al-awwaleen

There is no god save He; He gives life and He gives death; your Lord, and the Lord of your fathers of old.

## Verse 9

بَلْ هُمْ ف۪ي شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ

Bal hum fee shakkin yalAAaboon

The truth is, they are in doubt, playing.

فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَٓاءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُب۪ينٍۙ

Fartaqib yawma ta/tee assamaobidukhanin mubeen

So watch thou for the day the sky will bring obvious smoke

## Verse 11

يَغْشَى النَّاسَۜ هٰذَا عَذَابٌ اَل۪يمٌ

Yaghsha annasa hathaAAathabun aleem

Covering mankind: “This is a painful punishment!

## Verse 12

رَبَّـنَا اكْشِفْ عَنَّا الْعَذَابَ اِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ

Rabbana ikshif AAanna alAAathabainna mu/minoon

“Our Lord: remove Thou from us the punishment; we are believers!”

## Verse 13

اَنّٰى لَهُمُ الذِّكْرٰى وَقَدْ جَٓاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُب۪ينٌۙ

Anna lahumu aththikrawaqad jaahum rasoolun mubeen

How should they have the reminder when a clear messenger has come to them,

## Verse 14

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا مُعَلَّمٌ مَجْنُونٌۢ

Thumma tawallaw AAanhu waqaloomuAAallamun majnoon

Then they turned away from him and said: “One taught and possessed”?

## Verse 15

اِنَّا كَاشِفُوا الْعَذَابِ قَل۪يلاً اِنَّكُمْ عَٓائِدُونَۢ

Inna kashifoo alAAathabiqaleelan innakum AAa-idoon

We, indeed, remove the punishment a little; you, indeed, revert.

## Verse 16

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ الْبَطْشَةَ الْكُبْرٰىۚ اِنَّا مُنْتَقِمُونَ

Yawma nabtishu albatshataalkubra inna muntaqimoon

The day We seize with the greatest seizing We will take retribution!

## Verse 17

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَٓاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَر۪يمٌۙ

Walaqad fatanna qablahum qawmafirAAawna wajaahum rasoolun kareem

And We had subjected the people of Pharaoh before them to means of denial, and there came to them a noble messenger:

## Verse 18

اَنْ اَدُّٓوا اِلَيَّ عِبَادَ اللّٰهِۜ اِنّ۪ي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ اَم۪ينٌۙ

An addoo ilayya AAibada Allahiinnee lakum rasoolun ameen

“Deliver up to me the servants of God; I am to you a trustworthy messenger.”

## Verse 19

وَاَنْ لَا تَعْلُوا عَلَى اللّٰهِۚ اِنّ۪ٓي اٰت۪يكُمْ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُب۪ينٍۚ

Waan la taAAloo AAala Allahiinnee ateekum bisultanin mubeen

And: “Exalt not yourselves against God; I bring you a clear authority.”

## Verse 20

وَاِنّ۪ي عُذْتُ بِرَبّ۪ي وَرَبِّكُمْ اَنْ تَرْجُمُونِۘ

Wa-innee AAuthtu birabbee warabbikuman tarjumoon

And: “I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me.”

## Verse 21

وَاِنْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا ل۪ي فَاعْتَزِلُونِ

Wa-in lam tu/minoo lee faAAtaziloon

And: “If you believe me not, then stay away from me.”

## Verse 22

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُٓ  اَنَّ هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ قَوْمٌ مُجْرِمُونَ

FadaAAa rabbahu anna haola-iqawmun mujrimoon

And he called to his Lord that these were a people of lawbreakers.

## Verse 23

فَاَسْرِ بِعِبَاد۪ي لَيْلاً اِنَّكُمْ مُتَّبَعُونَۙ

Faasri biAAibadee laylan innakummuttabaAAoon

“Then travel thou with My servants by night: — you will be followed.

## Verse 24

وَاتْرُكِ الْبَحْرَ رَهْواًۜ اِنَّهُمْ جُنْدٌ مُغْرَقُونَ

Watruki albahra rahwaninnahum jundun mughraqoon

“And leave thou the sea tranquil: — they are a force to be drowned.”

## Verse 25

كَمْ تَرَكُوا مِنْ جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍۙ

Kam tarakoo min jannatin waAAuyoon

How many were the gardens and springs they left

## Verse 26

وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَر۪يمٍۙ

WazurooAAin wamaqamin kareem

And cornlands and noble station

## Verse 27

وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا ف۪يهَا فَاكِه۪ينَۙ

WanaAAmatin kanoo feeha fakiheen

And prosperity wherein they found gladness!

## Verse 28

كَذٰلِكَ۠ وَاَوْرَثْنَاهَا قَوْماً اٰخَر۪ينَ

Kathalika waawrathnahaqawman akhareen

Thus! And We gave it as an inheritance to another people.

## Verse 29

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّمَٓاءُ وَالْاَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا مُنْظَر۪ينَ۟

Fama bakat AAalayhimu assamaowal-ardu wama kanoo munthareen

And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they granted respite,

## Verse 30

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَن۪ٓي اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْمُه۪ينِۙ

Walaqad najjayna banee isra-eelamina alAAathabi almuheen

And We delivered the children of Israel from the humiliating punishment,

## Verse 31

مِنْ فِرْعَوْنَۜ اِنَّهُ كَانَ عَالِياً مِنَ الْمُسْرِف۪ينَ

Min firAAawna innahu kana AAaliyanmina almusrifeen

From Pharaoh: — he was a high one among the committers of excess.

## Verse 32

وَلَقَدِ اخْتَرْنَاهُمْ عَلٰى عِلْمٍ عَلَى الْعَالَم۪ينَۚ

Walaqadi ikhtarnahum AAalaAAilmin AAala alAAalameen

And We chose them, according to knowledge, above all mankind,

## Verse 33

وَاٰتَيْنَاهُمْ مِنَ الْاٰيَاتِ مَا ف۪يهِ بَلٰٓؤٌا مُب۪ينٌ

Waataynahum mina al-ayatima feehi balaon mubeen

And We gave them among proofs that wherein was a clear trial.

## Verse 34

اِنَّ هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ لَيَقُولُونَۙ

Inna haola-i layaqooloon

These say:

## Verse 35

اِنْ هِيَ اِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا الْاُو۫لٰى وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنْشَر۪ينَ

In hiya illa mawtatuna al-oolawama nahnu bimunshareen

“There is only our former death, and we will not be raised.

## Verse 36

فَأْتُوا بِاٰبَٓائِنَٓا اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِق۪ينَ

Fa/too bi-aba-ina inkuntum sadiqeen

“So bring us our fathers, if you be truthful.”

## Verse 37

اَهُمْ خَيْرٌ اَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍۙ وَالَّذ۪ينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْۜ اَهْلَكْنَاهُمْۘ اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْرِم۪ينَ

Ahum khayrun am qawmu tubbaAAin wallatheenamin qablihim ahlaknahum innahum kanoo mujrimeen

Are they better, or the people of Tubbaʿ? And those before them we destroyed: — they were lawbreakers.

## Verse 38

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَاعِب۪ينَ

Wama khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma laAAibeen

And We created not the heavens and the earth and what is between them in play.

## Verse 39

مَا خَلَقْنَاهُمَٓا اِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Ma khalaqnahuma illabilhaqqi walakinna aktharahum layaAAlamoon

We created them not but in truth, but most of them know not.

## Verse 40

اِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ م۪يقَاتُهُمْ اَجْمَع۪ينَۙ

Inna yawma alfasli meeqatuhumajmaAAeen

The Day of Decision will be their appointed time all together,

## Verse 41

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْن۪ي مَوْلًى عَنْ مَوْلًى شَيْـٔاً وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَۙ

Yawma la yughnee mawlan AAan mawlanshay-an wala hum yunsaroon

The day a friend can in nothing avail a friend; nor will they be helped,

## Verse 42

اِلَّا مَنْ رَحِمَ اللّٰهُۜ اِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَز۪يزُ الرَّح۪يمُ۟

Illa man rahima Allahuinnahu huwa alAAazeezu arraheem

Save he on whom God has mercy; He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

اِنَّ شَجَرَتَ الزَّقُّومِۙ

Inna shajarata azzaqqoom

The Tree of Zaqqūm

## Verse 44

طَعَامُ الْاَث۪يمِۚۛ

TaAAamu al-atheem

Is the food of the sinful,

## Verse 45

كَالْمُهْلِۚۛ يَغْل۪ي فِي الْبُطُونِۙ

Kalmuhli yaghlee fee albutoon

Like molten brass, it boils in the bellies

## Verse 46

كَغَلْيِ الْحَم۪يمِ

Kaghalyi alhameem

Like the boiling of scalding water:

## Verse 47

خُذُوهُ فَاعْتِلُوهُ اِلٰى سَوَٓاءِ الْجَح۪يمِۚ

Khuthoohu faAAtiloohu ilasawa-i aljaheem

“Take him, and drag him into the midst of Hell,

## Verse 48

ثُمَّ صُبُّوا فَوْقَ رَأْسِه۪ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْحَم۪يمِۜ

Thumma subboo fawqa ra/sihi min AAathabialhameem

“Then pour over his head from the punishment of scalding water!”

## Verse 49

ذُقْۙ ۚ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْعَز۪يزُ الْكَر۪يمُ

Thuq innaka anta alAAazeezu alkareem

“Taste thou — thou art the exalted in might, the noble!

## Verse 50

اِنَّ هٰذَا مَا كُنْتُمْ بِه۪ تَمْتَرُونَ

Inna hatha ma kuntum bihitamtaroon

“This is that whereof you doubted.”

## Verse 51

اِنَّ الْمُتَّق۪ينَ ف۪ي مَقَامٍ اَم۪ينٍۙ

Inna almuttaqeena fee maqamin ameen

Those of prudent fear will be in a secure station

## Verse 52

ف۪ي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍۚ

Fee jannatin waAAuyoon

Among gardens and springs,

## Verse 53

يَلْبَسُونَ مِنْ سُنْدُسٍ وَاِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُتَقَابِل۪ينَۚ

Yalbasoona min sundusin wa-istabraqin mutaqabileen

Clothed in finest silk and brocade, facing one another.

## Verse 54

كَذٰلِكَ۠ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُمْ بِحُورٍ ع۪ينٍۜ

Kathalika wazawwajnahum bihoorinAAeen

Thus! And We will marry them to pure, lustrous-eyed maidens.

## Verse 55

يَدْعُونَ ف۪يهَا بِكُلِّ فَاكِهَةٍ اٰمِن۪ينَۙ

YadAAoona feeha bikulli fakihatinamineen

They will call therein for every fruit in safety.

## Verse 56

لَا يَذُوقُونَ ف۪يهَا الْمَوْتَ اِلَّا الْمَوْتَةَ الْاُو۫لٰىۚ وَوَقٰيهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَح۪يمِۙ

La yathooqoona feehaalmawta illa almawtata al-oola wawaqahum AAathabaaljaheem

They will not taste therein of death save the former death, and He will protect them from the punishment of Hell

## Verse 57

فَضْلاً مِنْ رَبِّكَۜ ذٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظ۪يمُ

Fadlan min rabbika thalikahuwa alfawzu alAAatheem

As favour from thy Lord. That is the Great Achievement.

## Verse 58

فَاِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَاهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ

Fa-innama yassarnahu bilisanikalaAAallahum yatathakkaroon

And We have made it easy in thy tongue, that they might take heed.

## Verse 59

فَارْتَقِبْ اِنَّهُمْ مُرْتَقِبُونَ

Fartaqib innahum murtaqiboon

Then watch thou — they are watching.
