Surah Ad-Duhaa (The Morning Hours) — سورة الضحى - **Verse:** 4 / 11 · **Juz:** 30 · **Mushaf page:** 596 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ad-duhaa/verse-4 ## Arabic وَلَلْاٰخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنَ الْاُو۫لٰىۜ ## Transcription Walal-akhiratu khayrun laka minaal-oola ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley The Last will be better for you than the First. ### Progressive Muslims And the Hereafter is better for you than the first. ### Shabbir Ahmed And verily, being far-sighted is better for you than being short-sighted. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And the latter will be better for thee than the former. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation And the Hereafter is better for you than the first. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament The Hereafter is far better for you than this first (life). ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira What is to come is better for you than what has gone before; ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life]. ### Muhammad Asad for, indeed, the life to come will be better for thee than this earlier part [of thy life]! ### Marmaduke Pickthall And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former, ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Indeed what is to come will be better for you than what has gone by.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This good news was given by Allah to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a state when he had only a handful of Muslims with him, the entire nation was hostile and there was not even a remote chance of success. The candle of Islam was flickering only in Makkah and storms were brewing all around to blow it out. At that juncture Allah said to His Prophet (peace be upon him): Do not at all grieve at the hardships of the initial stage, every later period of life will be better for you than the former period. Your power and glory, your honor and prestige will go on enhancing and your influence will go on spreading. This promise is not only confined to the world, but it also includes the promise that the rank and position you will be granted in the Hereafter will be far higher and nobler than the rank and position you attain in the world. Tabarani in Awsat and Baihaqi in Ad-Dalail have related on the authority of Ibn Abbas that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: All the victories which would be attained by my Ummah after me, were presented before me. This pleased me much. Then, Allah sent down this Word, saying: The Hereafter is far better for you than the world. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Indeed what awaits you in the Hereafter far excels all that you will experience here with all the gratification and happiness to be occasioned by future victory and satisfaction. ### Bijan Moeinian Bear in mind that your Hereafter home is much better that your trnsitionary worldly place that you are living in for a while. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present (life of this world). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And the next life is certainly far better for you than this one. ### Taqi Usmani Surely the Hereafter is much better for you than the present life. ### Abdul Haleem and the future will be better for you than the past; ### Arthur John Arberry and the Last shall be better for thee than the First. ### E.
