He has not done what He ordered him. ### Progressive Muslims Alas, when what has been ordained is complete. ### Shabbir Ahmed Nay, man did not fulfill what He enjoined upon him. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation No, indeed! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. ### Muhammad Asad Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] He commanded him: Implies the duty that Allah has enjoined on every man in the form of natural guidance as well as the duty to which man’s own existence and every particle of the universe, from the earth to the heavens, and every manifestation of divine power are pointing, and also that duty which Allah has conveyed in every age through His Prophets and Books and disseminated through the righteous people of every period.
