Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 144 - **Form in this verse:** فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ — falanuwalliyannaka · "So We will surely turn you" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tef'il · 1st person, plural · present tense قَدْ نَرٰى تَقَلُّبَ وَجْهِكَ فِي السَّمَٓاءِۚ فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبْلَةً تَرْضٰيهَاۖ فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِۜ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنْتُمْ فَوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُۜ وَاِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ اُو۫تُوا الْكِتَابَ لَيَعْلَمُونَ اَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْۜ وَمَا اللّٰهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ Qad nara taqalluba wajhika fee assama-ifalanuwalliyannaka qiblatan tardaha fawalli wajhakashatra almasjidi alharami wahaythu makuntum fawalloo wujoohakum shatrahu wa-inna allatheenaootoo alkitaba layaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu minrabbihim wama Allahu bighafilin AAammayaAAmaloon We have seen the turning of thy face towards the sky, and We will turn thee towards a course that will satisfy thee. So direct thou thy face towards the inviolable place of worship. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 177 - **Form in this verse:** تُوَلُّوا۟ — tuwallū · "you turn" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tef'il · 2nd person, masculine, plural · present tense لَيْسَ الْبِرَّ اَنْ تُوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَلٰكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنْ اٰمَنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِ وَالْمَلٰٓئِكَةِ وَالْكِتَابِ وَالنَّبِيّ۪نَۚ وَاٰتَى الْمَالَ عَلٰى حُبِّه۪ ذَوِي الْقُرْبٰى وَالْيَتَامٰى وَالْمَسَاك۪ينَ وَابْنَ السَّب۪يلِ وَالسَّٓائِل۪ينَ وَفِي الرِّقَابِۚ وَاَقَامَ الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتَى الزَّكٰوةَۚ وَالْمُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ اِذَا عَاهَدُواۚ وَالصَّابِر۪ينَ فِي الْبَأْسَٓاءِ وَالضَّرَّٓاءِ وَح۪ينَ الْبَأْسِۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ صَدَقُواۜ وَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُونَ Laysa albirra an tuwalloo wujoohakum qibalaalmashriqi walmaghribi walakinna albirra man amanabillahi walyawmi al-akhiri walmala-ikatiwalkitabi wannabiyyeena waataalmala AAala hubbihi thawee alqurbawalyatama walmasakeena wabnaalssabeeli wassa-ileena wafee arriqabiwaaqama assalata waataazzakata walmoofoona biAAahdihim ithaAAahadoo wassabireena fee alba/sa-iwaddarra-i waheena alba/si ola-ikaallatheena sadaqoo waola-ika humualmuttaqoon It is not virtue that you turn your faces towards the East and the West. But virtue is: one who believes in God, and the Last Day, and the angels, and the Writ, and the prophets, and gives wealth in spite of love of it to relatives, and the fatherless, and the needy, and the wayfarer, and those who ask, and to manumit slaves; and who upholds the duty, and renders the purity; and those who keep their covenant when they make a covenant; and the patient in affliction and adversity, and during conflict: those are they who are sincere; and it is they who are those of prudent fear. _https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-177.md_ ### 2. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 246 - **Form in this verse:** تَوَلَّوْا۟ — tawallaw · "they turned away" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tefa'ul · 3rd person, masculine, plural · past tense اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الْمَلَأِ مِنْ بَن۪ٓي اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مُوسٰىۢ اِذْ قَالُوا لِنَبِيٍّ لَهُمُ ابْعَثْ لَنَا مَلِكاً نُقَاتِلْ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِۜ قَالَ هَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ اِنْ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْقِتَالُ اَلَّا تُقَاتِلُواۜ قَالُوا وَمَا لَـنَٓا اَلَّا نُقَاتِلَ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِ وَقَدْ اُخْرِجْنَا مِنْ دِيَارِنَا وَاَبْنَٓائِنَاۜ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقِتَالُ تَوَلَّوْا اِلَّا قَل۪يلاً مِنْهُمْۜ وَاللّٰهُ عَل۪يمٌ بِالظَّالِم۪ينَ Alam tara ila almala-i min banee isra-eelamin baAAdi moosa ith qaloo linabiyyin lahumuibAAath lana malikan nuqatil fee sabeeli Allahiqala hal AAasaytum in kutiba AAalaykumu alqitalualla tuqatiloo qaloo wama lanaalla nuqatila fee sabeeli Allahi waqadokhrijna min diyarina waabna-inafalamma kutiba AAalayhimu alqitalu tawallaw illaqaleelan minhum wallahu AAaleemun biththalimeen Hast thou not considered the eminent ones of the children of Israel after Moses? When they said to a prophet of theirs: “Raise thou up for us a king; we will fight in the cause of God,” he said: “Would you, if fighting be prescribed for you, not fight?” They said: “And why should we not fight in the cause of God when we have been turned out of our homes, and our children?” But when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away save a few of them. And those who ignore warning: their allies are idols; they bring them out of the light into darkness. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 282 - **Form in this verse:** وَلِيُّهُۥ — waliyyuhu · "his guardian" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine · nominative case يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُٓوا اِذَا تَدَايَنْتُمْ بِدَيْنٍ اِلٰٓى اَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى فَاكْتُبُوهُۜ وَلْيَكْتُبْ بَيْنَكُمْ كَاتِبٌ بِالْعَدْلِۖ وَلَا يَأْبَ كَاتِبٌ اَنْ يَكْتُبَ كَمَا عَلَّمَهُ اللّٰهُ فَلْيَكْتُبْۚ وَلْيُمْلِلِ الَّذ۪ي عَلَيْهِ الْحَقُّ وَلْيَتَّقِ اللّٰهَ رَبَّهُ وَلَا يَبْخَسْ مِنْهُ شَيْـٔاًۜ فَاِنْ كَانَ الَّذ۪ي عَلَيْهِ الْحَقُّ سَف۪يهاً اَوْ ضَع۪يفاً اَوْ لَا يَسْتَط۪يعُ اَنْ يُمِلَّ هُوَ فَلْيُمْلِلْ وَلِيُّهُ بِالْعَدْلِۜ وَاسْتَشْهِدُوا شَه۪يدَيْنِ مِنْ رِجَالِكُمْۚ فَاِنْ لَمْ يَكُونَا رَجُلَيْنِ فَرَجُلٌ وَامْرَاَتَانِ مِمَّنْ تَرْضَوْنَ مِنَ الشُّهَدَٓاءِ اَنْ تَضِلَّ اِحْدٰيهُمَا فَتُذَكِّرَ اِحْدٰيهُمَا الْاُخْرٰىۜ وَلَا يَأْبَ الشُّهَدَٓاءُ اِذَا مَا دُعُواۜ وَلَا تَسْـَٔمُٓوا اَنْ تَكْتُبُوهُ صَغ۪يراً اَوْ كَب۪يراً اِلٰٓى اَجَلِه۪ۜ ذٰلِكُمْ اَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ وَاَقْوَمُ لِلشَّهَادَةِ وَاَدْنٰٓى اَلَّا تَرْتَابُٓوا اِلَّٓا اَنْ تَكُونَ تِجَارَةً حَاضِرَةً تُد۪يرُونَهَا بَيْنَكُمْ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ اَلَّا تَكْتُبُوهَاۜ وَاَشْهِدُٓوا اِذَا تَبَايَعْتُمْۖ وَلَا يُضَٓارَّ كَاتِبٌ وَلَا شَه۪يدٌۜ وَاِنْ تَفْعَلُوا فَاِنَّهُ فُسُوقٌ بِكُمْۜ وَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَۜ وَيُعَلِّمُكُمُ اللّٰهُۜ وَاللّٰهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَل۪يمٌ Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooitha tadayantum bidaynin ila ajalin musammanfaktuboohu walyaktub baynakum katibun bilAAadliwala ya/ba katibun an yaktuba kamaAAallamahu Allahu falyaktub walyumlili allatheeAAalayhi alhaqqu walyattaqi Allaha rabbahu walayabkhas minhu shay-an fa-in kana allathee AAalayhialhaqqu safeehan aw daAAeefan aw la yastateeAAuan yumilla huwa falyumlil waliyyuhu bilAAadli wastashhidooshaheedayni min rijalikum fa-in lam yakoonarajulayni farajulun wamraatani mimman tardawnamina ashshuhada-i an tadilla ihdahumafatuthakkira ihdahuma al-okhrawala ya/ba ashshuhadao itha maduAAoo wala tas-amoo an taktuboohu sagheeran awkabeeran ila ajalihi thalikum aqsatu AAindaAllahi waaqwamu lishshahadati waadnaalla tartaboo illa an takoona tijaratanhadiratan tudeeroonaha baynakum falaysa AAalaykumjunahun alla taktubooha waashhidoo ithatabayaAAtum wala yudarra katibun walashaheedun wa-in tafAAaloo fa-innahu fusooqun bikum wattaqooAllaha wayuAAallimukumu Allahu wallahubikulli shay-in AAaleem O you who heed warning: when you contract a debt together to a stated term: write it down, and let a writer write it down between you justly; and let not a writer refuse to write it down as God has taught him; so let him write, and let the debtor dictate, and let him be in prudent fear of God, his Lord, and diminish nothing thereof. But if the debtor be incompetent, or weak, or unable to dictate himself, then his ally shall dictate justly. And call to witness two witnesses from among your men; but if there be not two men, then a man and two women among those you approve as witnesses, that should one of them err, one of them might remind the other; and let not the witnesses refuse when they are called. And be not weary of writing it, small or great, with its term (that is more just in the sight of God, and more upright for witness, and likelier that there will be no doubt between you) save if it be present trade that you transact among you; then you do no wrong that you write it not down. And take witnesses when you enter into contract. And let not a writer or witness be harmed. And if you do, then is it perfidy among you. And be in prudent fear of God. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 286 - **Form in this verse:** مَوْلَىٰنَا — mawlānā · "our Protector" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine · nominative case لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللّٰهُ نَفْساً اِلَّا وُسْعَهَاۜ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْۜ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَٓا اِنْ نَس۪ينَٓا اَوْ اَخْطَأْنَاۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَٓا اِصْراً كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذ۪ينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَاۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِه۪ۚ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا۠ وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا۠ وَارْحَمْنَا۠ اَنْتَ مَوْلٰينَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِر۪ينَ La yukallifu Allahu nafsanilla wusAAaha laha ma kasabatwaAAalayha ma iktasabat rabbana latu-akhithna in naseena aw akhta/narabbana wala tahmil AAalayna isrankama hamaltahu AAala allatheena minqablina rabbana wala tuhammilnama la taqata lana bihi waAAfuAAanna waghfir lana warhamnaanta mawlana fansurna AAalaalqawmi alkafireen God burdens not a soul save to its capacity; it has what it earned, and it answers for what it acquired. “Our Lord: take Thou us not to task if we forget or commit offence. Our Lord: lay Thou not upon us a burden as Thou didst lay upon those before us. Our Lord: give Thou us not to bear what we have not strength for. And excuse Thou us, and forgive Thou us, and have Thou mercy upon us; Thou art our protector. Surah Ali 'Imran, Verse 20 - **Form in this verse:** تَوَلَّوْا۟ — tawallaw · "they turn back" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tefa'ul · 3rd person, masculine, plural · past tense فَاِنْ حَٓاجُّوكَ فَقُلْ اَسْلَمْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلّٰهِ وَمَنِ اتَّـبَعَنِۜ وَقُلْ لِلَّذ۪ينَ اُو۫تُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْاُمِّيّ۪نَ ءَاَسْلَمْتُمْۜ فَاِنْ اَسْلَمُوا فَقَدِ اهْتَدَوْاۚ وَاِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَاِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلَاغُۜ وَاللّٰهُ بَص۪يرٌ بِالْعِبَادِ۟ Fa-in hajjooka faqul aslamtu wajhiyalillahi wamani ittabaAAani waqul lillatheena ootooalkitaba walommiyyeena aaslamtum fa-inaslamoo faqadi ihtadaw wa-in tawallaw fa-innama AAalaykaalbalaghu wallahu baseerun bilAAibad And if they argue with thee, then say thou: “I have submitted my face to God, as have those who follow me.” And say thou to those given the Writ and to the unschooled: “Have you submitted?” And if they have submitted, then are they guided; but if they turn away, then upon thee is only the notification; and God sees the servants. _https://quran.so/surah-ali-imran/verse-20.md_ ### 3. Surah Ali 'Imran, Verse 28 - **Form in this verse:** أَوْلِيَآءَ — awliyāa · "(as) allies" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine, plural · accusative case لَا يَتَّخِذِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الْكَافِر۪ينَ اَوْلِيَٓاءَ مِنْ دُونِ الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَۚ وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذٰلِكَ فَلَيْسَ مِنَ اللّٰهِ ف۪ي شَيْءٍ اِلَّٓا اَنْ تَتَّقُوا مِنْهُمْ تُقٰيةًۜ وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ اللّٰهُ نَفْسَهُۜ وَاِلَى اللّٰهِ الْمَص۪يرُ La yattakhithi almu/minoonaalkafireena awliyaa min dooni almu/mineena wamanyafAAal thalika falaysa mina Allahi fee shay-in illaan tattaqoo minhum tuqatan wayuhaththirukumuAllahu nafsahu wa-ila Allahi almaseer Let not the believers take as allies the false claimers of guidance rather than believers; and whoso does that is not of God in anything — save that you be in prudent fear of them, as a precaution. Surah Ali 'Imran, Verse 64 - **Form in this verse:** تَوَلَّوْا۟ — tawallaw · "they turn away" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tefa'ul · 3rd person, masculine, plural · past tense قُلْ يَٓا اَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ تَعَالَوْا اِلٰى كَلِمَةٍ سَوَٓاءٍ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ اَلَّا نَعْبُدَ اِلَّا اللّٰهَ وَلَا نُشْرِكَ بِه۪ شَيْـٔاً وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضاً اَرْبَاباً مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِۜ فَاِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقُولُوا اشْهَدُوا بِاَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ Qul ya ahla alkitabi taAAalawila kalimatin sawa-in baynana wabaynakum allanaAAbuda illa Allaha wala nushrika bihishay-an wala yattakhitha baAAdunabaAAdan arbaban min dooni Allahi fa-intawallaw faqooloo ishhadoo bi-anna muslimoon Say thou: “O doctors of the Law: come to an equitable word between us and you: that we serve not save God; and that we ascribe not partnership to Him; and that none of us takes others as lords instead of God.” And if they turn away, then say you: “Bear witness that we are submitting.” _https://quran.so/surah-ali-imran/verse-64.md_ ### 3. Surah Ali 'Imran, Verse 155 - **Form in this verse:** تَوَلَّوْا۟ — tawallaw · "turned back" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tefa'ul · 3rd person, masculine, plural · past tense اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ تَوَلَّوْا مِنْكُمْ يَوْمَ الْتَقَى الْجَمْعَانِۙ اِنَّمَا اسْتَزَلَّهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ بِبَعْضِ مَا كَسَبُواۚ وَلَقَدْ عَفَا اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمْۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُورٌ حَل۪يمٌ۟ Inna allatheena tawallaw minkumyawma iltaqa aljamAAani innama istazallahumuashshaytanu bibaAAdi ma kasaboowalaqad AAafa Allahu AAanhum inna Allahaghafoorun haleem Those who turned back among you the day the two hosts met: the satan caused them to slip only for some of what they earned. Surah An-Nisa, Verse 33 - **Form in this verse:** مَوَٰلِىَ — mawāliya · "heirs" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine, plural · accusative case وَلِكُلٍّ جَعَلْنَا مَوَالِيَ مِمَّا تَرَكَ الْوَالِدَانِ وَالْاَقْرَبُونَۜ وَالَّذ۪ينَ عَقَدَتْ اَيْمَانُكُمْ فَاٰتُوهُمْ نَص۪يبَهُمْۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَه۪يداً۟ Walikullin jaAAalna mawaliyamimma taraka alwalidani wal-aqraboonawallatheena AAaqadat aymanukum faatoohumnaseebahum inna Allaha kana AAalakulli shay-in shaheeda And for all have We appointed heirs to what parents and relatives leave; and those with whom you have entered into contract: give them their share; God is witness over all things. _https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-33.md_ ### 4. Surah An-Nisa, Verse 75 - **Form in this verse:** وَلِيًّۭا — waliyyan · "a protector" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine · accusative case · indefinite وَمَا لَكُمْ لَا تُقَاتِلُونَ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِ وَالْمُسْتَضْعَف۪ينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَٓاءِ وَالْوِلْدَانِ الَّذ۪ينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَٓا اَخْرِجْنَا مِنْ هٰذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ الظَّالِمِ اَهْلُهَاۚ وَاجْعَلْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ وَلِياًّۚ وَاجْعَلْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ نَص۪يراًۜ Wama lakum la tuqatiloonafee sabeeli Allahi walmustadAAafeena mina arrijaliwannisa-i walwildani allatheenayaqooloona rabbana akhrijna min hathihialqaryati aththalimi ahluhawajAAal lana min ladunka waliyyan wajAAallana min ladunka naseera And why should you not fight in the cause of God, and of the oppressed among the men, and the women, and the children who say: “Our Lord: take Thou us out of this city whose people are wrongdoers; and give Thou us from Thyself an ally; and give Thou us from Thyself a helper”? _https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-75.md_ ### 4. Surah An-Nisa, Verse 76 - **Form in this verse:** أَوْلِيَآءَ — awliyāa · "(the) friends" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine, plural · accusative case اَلَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا يُقَاتِلُونَ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِۚ وَالَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا يُقَاتِلُونَ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ الطَّاغُوتِ فَقَاتِلُٓوا اَوْلِيَٓاءَ الشَّيْطَانِۚ اِنَّ كَيْدَ الشَّيْطَانِ كَانَ ضَع۪يفاً۟ Allatheena amanoo yuqatiloonafee sabeeli Allahi wallatheena kafaroo yuqatiloonafee sabeeli attaghooti faqatiloo awliyaaashshaytani inna kayda ashshaytanikana daAAeefa Those who heed warning fight in the cause of God; and those who ignore warning fight in the cause of idols. And take not allies among them until they emigrate in the cause of God; then if they turn back: take them and kill them wheresoever you find them. Surah An-Nisa, Verse 119 - **Form in this verse:** وَلِيًّۭا — waliyyan · "(as) a friend" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine · accusative case · indefinite وَلَاُضِلَّنَّهُمْ وَلَاُمَنِّيَنَّهُمْ وَلَاٰمُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُبَتِّكُنَّ اٰذَانَ الْاَنْعَامِ وَلَاٰمُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُغَيِّرُنَّ خَلْقَ اللّٰهِۜ وَمَنْ يَتَّخِذِ الشَّيْطَانَ وَلِياًّ مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ فَقَدْ خَسِرَ خُسْرَاناً مُب۪يناًۜ Walaodillannahum walaomanniyannahumwalaamurannahum falayubattikunna athana al-anAAamiwalaamurannahum falayughayyirunna khalqa Allahiwaman yattakhithi ashshaytana waliyyan mindooni Allahi faqad khasira khusranan mubeena And: “I will lead them astray”; and: “I will arouse desires in them”; and: “I will command them and they will slit the ears of cattle”; and: “I will command them and they will change the creation of God.” And whoso takes the satan for ally instead of God, he has suffered clear loss. _https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-119.md_ ### 4. Surah An-Nisa, Verse 135 - **Form in this verse:** أَوْلَىٰ — awlā · "(is) nearer" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine, singular · nominative case يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا كُونُوا قَوَّام۪ينَ بِالْقِسْطِ شُهَدَٓاءَ لِلّٰهِ وَلَوْ عَلٰٓى اَنْفُسِكُمْ اَوِ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْاَقْرَب۪ينَۚ اِنْ يَكُنْ غَنِياًّ اَوْ فَق۪يراً فَاللّٰهُ اَوْلٰى بِهِمَا فَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا الْهَوٰٓى اَنْ تَعْدِلُواۚ وَاِنْ تَلْـوُٓ۫ا اَوْ تُعْرِضُوا فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَب۪يراً Ya ayyuha allatheena amanookoonoo qawwameena bilqisti shuhadaalillahi walaw AAala anfusikum awi alwalidayniwal-aqrabeena in yakun ghaniyyan aw faqeeran fallahuawla bihima fala tattabiAAoo alhawaan taAAdiloo wa-in talwoo aw tuAAridoo fa-inna Allahakana bima taAAmaloona khabeera O you who heed warning: stand firm with equity, witnesses to God, though it be against yourselves, or parents, or relatives; whether he be rich or poor, God is closer to both. Surah An-Nisa, Verse 139 - **Form in this verse:** أَوْلِيَآءَ — awliyāa · "(as) allies" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine, plural · accusative case اَلَّذ۪ينَ يَتَّخِذُونَ الْكَافِر۪ينَ اَوْلِيَٓاءَ مِنْ دُونِ الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَۜ اَيَبْتَغُونَ عِنْدَهُمُ الْعِزَّةَ فَاِنَّ الْعِزَّةَ لِلّٰهِ جَم۪يعاًۜ Allatheena yattakhithoona alkafireenaawliyaa min dooni almu/mineena ayabtaghoona AAindahumualAAizzata fa-inna alAAizzata lillahi jameeAAa Those who take the false claimers of guidance as allies rather than the believers, do they seek with them power and glory? Surah An-Nisa, Verse 173 - **Form in this verse:** وَلِيًّۭا — waliyyan · "any protector" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine · accusative case · indefinite فَاَمَّا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ فَيُوَفّ۪يهِمْ اُجُورَهُمْ وَيَز۪يدُهُمْ مِنْ فَضْلِه۪ۚ وَاَمَّا الَّذ۪ينَ اسْتَنْكَفُوا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا فَيُعَذِّبُهُمْ عَذَاباً اَل۪يماًۙ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ وَلِياًّ وَلَا نَص۪يراً Faamma allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati fayuwaffeehimojoorahum wayazeeduhum min fadlihi waamma allatheenaistankafoo wastakbaroo fayuAAaththibuhum AAathabanaleeman wala yajidoona lahum min dooni Allahiwaliyyan wala naseera Then as for those who heed warning and do righteous deeds: He will give them their rewards in full, and increase them out of His bounty; and as for those who disdain and wax proud: He will punish them with a painful punishment; and they will not find for them, besides God, ally or helper. _https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-173.md_ ### 5. Surah Al-Ma'idah, Verse 43 - **Form in this verse:** يَتَوَلَّوْنَ — yatawallawna · "they turn away" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tefa'ul · 3rd person, masculine, plural · present tense وَكَيْفَ يُحَكِّمُونَكَ وَعِنْدَهُمُ التَّوْرٰيةُ ف۪يهَا حُكْمُ اللّٰهِ ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّوْنَ مِنْ بَعْدِ ذٰلِكَۜ وَمَٓا اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ بِالْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ۟ Wakayfa yuhakkimoonaka waAAindahumu attawratufeeha hukmu Allahi thumma yatawallawna minbaAAdi thalika wama ola-ika bilmu/mineen And how come they to thee for judgment when they have the Torah wherein is the judgment of God, then turn away after that? Surah Al-Ma'idah, Verse 49 - **Form in this verse:** تَوَلَّوْا۟ — tawallaw · "they turn away" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tefa'ul · 3rd person, masculine, plural · past tense وَاَنِ احْكُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ بِمَٓا اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ وَلَا تَتَّبِـعْ اَهْوَٓاءَهُمْ وَاحْذَرْهُمْ اَنْ يَفْتِنُوكَ عَنْ بَعْضِ مَٓا اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ اِلَيْكَۜ فَاِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَاعْلَمْ اَنَّمَا يُر۪يدُ اللّٰهُ اَنْ يُص۪يبَهُمْ بِبَعْضِ ذُنُوبِهِمْۜ وَاِنَّ كَث۪يراً مِنَ النَّاسِ لَفَاسِقُونَ Waani ohkum baynahum bimaanzala Allahu wala tattabiAA ahwaahum wahtharhuman yaftinooka AAan baAAdi ma anzala Allahuilayka fa-in tawallaw faAAlam annama yureedu Allahuan yuseebahum bibaAAdi thunoobihim wa-innakatheeran mina annasi lafasiqoon And judge thou between them by what God has sent down; and follow thou not their vain desires, and beware thou of them lest they seduce thee away from some of what God has sent down to thee. Surah Al-An'am, Verse 70 - **Form in this verse:** وَلِىٌّۭ — waliyyun · "any protector" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine · nominative case · indefinite وَذَرِ الَّذ۪ينَ اتَّخَذُوا د۪ينَهُمْ لَعِباً وَلَهْواً وَغَرَّتْهُمُ الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَا وَذَكِّرْ بِه۪ٓ اَنْ تُبْسَلَ نَفْسٌ بِمَا كَسَبَتْۗ لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ وَلِيٌّ وَلَا شَف۪يعٌۚ وَاِنْ تَعْدِلْ كُلَّ عَدْلٍ لَا يُؤْخَذْ مِنْهَاۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ اُبْسِلُوا بِمَا كَسَبُواۚ لَهُمْ شَرَابٌ مِنْ حَم۪يمٍ وَعَذَابٌ اَل۪يمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْفُرُونَ۟ Wathari allatheena ittakhathoodeenahum laAAiban walahwan wagharrat-humu alhayatuaddunya wathakkir bihi an tubsala nafsunbima kasabat laysa laha min dooni Allahiwaliyyun wala shafeeAAun wa-in taAAdil kulla AAadlin layu/khath minha ola-ika allatheenaobsiloo bima kasaboo lahum sharabun min hameeminwaAAathabun aleemun bima kanoo yakfuroon And leave thou those who take their doctrine as play and diversion, and whom the life of this world has deluded; and remind thou with it lest a soul be given up to destruction for what it earned; it has not, besides God, ally or intercessor. Surah Al-An'am, Verse 128 - **Form in this verse:** أَوْلِيَآؤُهُم — awliyāuhum · "their friends" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine, plural · nominative case وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ جَم۪يعاًۚ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْجِنِّ قَدِ اسْتَكْثَرْتُمْ مِنَ الْاِنْسِۚ وَقَالَ اَوْلِيَٓاؤُ۬هُمْ مِنَ الْاِنْسِ رَبَّـنَا اسْتَمْتَعَ بَعْضُنَا بِبَعْضٍ وَبَلَغْنَٓا اَجَلَنَا الَّـذ۪ٓي اَجَّلْتَ لَنَاۜ قَالَ النَّارُ مَثْوٰيكُمْ خَالِد۪ينَ ف۪يهَٓا اِلَّا مَا شَٓاءَ اللّٰهُۜ اِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَك۪يمٌ عَل۪يمٌ Wayawma yahshuruhum jameeAAan yamaAAshara aljinni qadi istakthartum mina al-insi waqalaawliyaohum mina al-insi rabbana istamtaAAa baAAdunabibaAAdin wabalaghna ajalana allatheeajjalta lana qala annaru mathwakumkhalideena feeha illa ma shaaAllahu inna rabbaka hakeemun AAaleem And the day He gathers them all together: “O congregation of domini: you have desired many among the servi.” And their allies among the servi will say: “Our Lord: we benefited one another; but we have reached our term which Thou appointedst for us.” He will say: “The Fire is your dwelling, you abiding eternally therein!” save that God should will; thy Lord is wise and knowing. _https://quran.so/surah-al-anam/verse-128.md_ ### 6. Surah Al-A'raf, Verse 27 - **Form in this verse:** أَوْلِيَآءَ — awliyāa · "friends" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine, plural · accusative case يَا بَن۪ٓي اٰدَمَ لَا يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ كَمَٓا اَخْرَجَ اَبَوَيْكُمْ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ يَنْزِعُ عَنْهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوْاٰتِهِمَاۜ اِنَّهُ يَرٰيكُمْ هُوَ وَقَب۪يلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْۜ اِنَّا جَعَلْنَا الشَّيَاط۪ينَ اَوْلِيَٓاءَ لِلَّذ۪ينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ Ya banee adama layaftinannakumu ashshaytanu kama akhrajaabawaykum mina aljannati yanziAAu AAanhuma libasahumaliyuriyahuma saw-atihima innahu yarakumhuwa waqabeeluhu min haythu la tarawnahum innajaAAalna ashshayateena awliyaa lillatheenala yu/minoon O children of Adam: let not the satan subject you to means of denial as he turned your parents out of the garden, removing from them their raiment, that he might make manifest their shame to them. Surah Al-A'raf, Verse 79 - **Form in this verse:** فَتَوَلَّىٰ — fatawallā · "So he turned away" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tefa'ul · 3rd person, masculine, singular · past tense فَتَوَلّٰى عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لَقَدْ اَبْلَغْتُكُمْ رِسَالَةَ رَبّ۪ي وَنَصَحْتُ لَـكُمْ وَلٰكِنْ لَا تُحِبُّونَ النَّاصِح۪ينَ Fatawalla AAanhum waqala yaqawmi laqad ablaghtukum risalata rabbee wanasahtulakum walakin la tuhibboona annasiheen So he turned from them, and said: “O my people: I had conveyed to you the message of my Lord, and been a sincere counsellor to you; but you love not sincere counsellors.” _https://quran.so/surah-al-araf/verse-79.md_ ### 7. Surah Al-A'raf, Verse 93 - **Form in this verse:** فَتَوَلَّىٰ — fatawallā · "So he turned away" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tefa'ul · 3rd person, masculine, singular · past tense فَتَوَلّٰى عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لَقَدْ اَبْلَغْتُكُمْ رِسَالَاتِ رَبّ۪ي وَنَصَحْتُ لَكُمْۚ فَكَيْفَ اٰسٰى عَلٰى قَوْمٍ كَافِر۪ينَ۟ Fatawalla AAanhum waqala yaqawmi laqad ablaghtukum risalati rabbee wanasahtulakum fakayfa asa AAala qawmin kafireen Then he turned from them and said: “O my people: I had conveyed to you the messages of my Lord, and been a sincere counsellor to you; so how should I grieve for a people of false claimers of guidance?” _https://quran.so/surah-al-araf/verse-93.md_ ### 7. Surah Al-A'raf, Verse 155 - **Form in this verse:** وَلِيُّنَا — waliyyunā · "(are) our Protector" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine · nominative case وَاخْتَارَ مُوسٰى قَوْمَهُ سَبْع۪ينَ رَجُلاً لِم۪يقَاتِنَاۚ فَلَمَّٓا اَخَذَتْهُمُ الرَّجْفَةُ قَالَ رَبِّ لَوْ شِئْتَ اَهْلَكْتَهُمْ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَاِيَّايَۜ اَتُهْلِكُنَا بِمَا فَعَلَ السُّفَـهَٓاءُ مِنَّاۚ اِنْ هِيَ اِلَّا فِتْنَتُكَۜ تُضِلُّ بِهَا مَنْ تَشَٓاءُ وَتَهْد۪ي مَنْ تَشَٓاءُۜ اَنْتَ وَلِيُّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْغَافِر۪ينَ Wakhtara moosaqawmahu sabAAeena rajulan limeeqatina falammaakhathat-humu arrajfatu qala rabbi lawshi/ta ahlaktahum min qablu wa-iyyaya atuhlikunabima faAAala assufahao minna in hiyailla fitnatuka tudillu biha man tashaowatahdee man tashao anta waliyyuna faghfirlana warhamna waanta khayru alghafireen And Moses chose of his people seventy men for Our appointed time; then when the earthquake seized them, he said: “My Lord: if Thou hadst willed, Thou wouldst have destroyed them before, and me. Wilt Thou destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? It is but Thy means of denial: Thou sendest whom Thou wilt astray thereby, and guidest whom Thou wilt. Thou art our ally, so forgive Thou us, and have Thou mercy on us; and Thou art the best of those who forgive. _https://quran.so/surah-al-araf/verse-155.md_ ### 7.
