And complete the pilgrimage and the attendance for God. But if you be straitened, then what is easy of the offering. And shave not your heads until the offering reaches its place of sacrifice. And whoso among you is sick or has a hindrance of the head: the redemption is by fast or charity or penance. And when you are secure, then whoso enjoys the attendance until the pilgrimage, then what is easy of the offering. And whoso has not the means: a fast of three days during the pilgrimage, and seven when you have returned. Those are ten complete. That is for him whose family is not present at the inviolable place of worship. And be in prudent fear of God, and know that God is severe in retribution.

O you who heed warning: when you rise up for the duty: wash your faces, and your hands to the elbows, and wipe your heads, and your feet to the ankles. And if you are unclean, purify yourselves. And if you were ill, or on a journey, or one of you came from the privy, or you have lain with women, then find not water: resort to clean soil, and wipe your faces and your hands with it. God wishes not to place any distress upon you; but He wishes to purify you and to complete His favour upon you, that you might be grateful.

And let abstain those who find not marriage until God enriches them out of His bounty. And those who seek the writ from among those your right hands possess: contract with them if you know good to be in them; and give to them out of the wealth God has given you. And compel not your slave-girls to whoredom, if they desire chastity[...] — seeking the enjoyment of the life of this world. And whoso compels them, then God, after their compulsion, is forgiving and merciful.

O you who heed warning: when you converse confidentially with the Messenger, send ahead charity before your private conversation. That is better for you, and purer. But if you find not the means — God is forgiving and merciful.

Thou wilt not find people who believe in God and the Last Day loving those who oppose God and His messenger, though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred. Those:–– — He has written faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with a Spirit from Himself, and will make them enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, they abiding eternally therein, God pleased with them, and they pleased with Him — those are the party of God. In truth, the party of God, they are the successful.

And those who settled in the home and the faith before them, love those who have emigrated to them, and they find in their breasts no need for what they were given, but give preference above themselves though they be in privation. And whoso is protected from the avarice of his soul, it is they who are the successful.

Let them dwell in what manner you dwell, out of your means, and harm them not so as to straiten them. And if they be bearing, then spend on them until they lay down their burden. Then if they suckle for you, then give them their reward, and take counsel among you according to what is fitting. And if there be difficulties between you, another shall suckle for him.
