### 2. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 51

Wala junaha AAalaykum feemaAAarradtum bihi min khitbati annisa-iaw aknantum fee anfusikum AAalima Allahu annakum satathkuroonahunnawalakin la tuwaAAidoohunna sirran illaan taqooloo qawlan maAAroofan wala taAAzimoo AAuqdata annikahihatta yablugha alkitabu ajalahu waAAlamooanna Allaha yaAAlamu ma fee anfusikum fahtharoohuwaAAlamoo anna Allaha ghafoorun haleem

And you do no wrong in what you intimate to women of proposal, or hide within yourselves; God knows that you will remember them. But make not nor take an oath with them secretly save that you speak a fitting word. And do not decide upon the knot of marriage until the writ reaches its term. And know that God knows what is within your souls, so fear Him. And know that God is forgiving and clement.

Walaqad sadaqakumu AllahuwaAAdahu ith tahussoonahum bi-ithnihi hattaitha fashiltum watanazaAAtum fee al-amri waAAasaytummin baAAdi ma arakum ma tuhibboonaminkum man yureedu addunya waminkum man yureedual-akhirata thumma sarafakum AAanhum liyabtaliyakumwalaqad AAafa AAankum wallahu thoofadlin AAala almu/mineen

And God was indeed true in His promise to you. When you were aware of them by His leave, when you had lost heart and disputed concerning the affair, and rebelled after He had shown you what you love[...]. Among you is he who desires the World; and among you is he who desires the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them that He might try you; and He has pardoned you; and God is bountiful to the believers.

La yastawee alqaAAidoona minaalmu/mineena ghayru olee addarari walmujahidoonafee sabeeli Allahi bi-amwalihim waanfusihim faddalaAllahu almujahideena bi-amwalihimwaanfusihim AAala alqaAAideena darajatan wakullanwaAAada Allahu alhusna wafaddala Allahualmujahideena AAala alqaAAideena ajran AAatheema

Not equal are those among the believers who sit — those without injury — and those who strive in the cause of God with their wealth and their lives. God has favoured those who strive with their wealth and their lives with a degree above those who sit; and each has God promised good, but He has favoured those who strive over those who sit with a great reward,

Wallatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati sanudkhiluhum jannatintajree min tahtiha al-anharu khalideenafeeha abadan waAAda Allahi haqqan waman asdaqumina Allahi qeela

But those who heed warning and do righteous deeds: We will make them enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, they abiding eternally therein forever. The promise of God is true; and who is more truthful than God in speech?

Wanada as-habualjannati as-haba annari an qadwajadna ma waAAadana rabbuna haqqanfahal wajadtum ma waAAada rabbukum haqqan qaloonaAAam faaththana mu-aththinun baynahum an laAAnatuAllahi AAala aththalimeen

And the companions of the Garden will call to the companions of the Fire: “We have found what our Lord promised us true; have you found what your Lord promised you true?” They will say: “Yea.” Then will there proclaim a proclaimer between them: “The curse of God is upon the wrongdoers:

Wanada as-habualjannati as-haba annari an qadwajadna ma waAAadana rabbuna haqqanfahal wajadtum ma waAAada rabbukum haqqan qaloonaAAam faaththana mu-aththinun baynahum an laAAnatuAllahi AAala aththalimeen

And the companions of the Garden will call to the companions of the Fire: “We have found what our Lord promised us true; have you found what your Lord promised you true?” They will say: “Yea.” Then will there proclaim a proclaimer between them: “The curse of God is upon the wrongdoers:

They said: “Hast thou come to us that we should serve God alone and leave what our fathers served? Then bring thou us what thou promisest us, if thou be of the truthful.”

And they hamstrung the she-camel; and they scorned the command of their Lord, saying: “O Ṣāliḥ: bring thou us what thou promisest us, if thou be among the emissaries.”

Wala taqAAudoo bikulli siratintooAAidoona watasuddoona AAan sabeeli Allahi man amanabihi watabghoonaha AAiwajan wathkuroo ithkuntum qaleelan fakaththarakum wanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu almufsideen

“And lie not in wait on every road, threatening and turning away from the path of God him who believes in Him, and seeking deviation therein. And remember when you were few, and He multiplied you; and see how was the final outcome of the workers of corruption.

WawaAAadna moosa thalatheenalaylatan waatmamnaha biAAashrin fatamma meeqaturabbihi arbaAAeena laylatan waqala moosa li-akheehiharoona okhlufnee fee qawmee waaslih walatattabiAA sabeela almufsideen

And We appointed for Moses thirty nights, and completed them with ten; so he completed the time appointed by his Lord of forty nights. And Moses said to his brother Aaron: “Be thou my successor among my people; and make thou right; and follow thou not the path of the workers of corruption.”

Wa-ith yaAAidukumu Allahu ihdaatta-ifatayni annaha lakum watawaddoonaanna ghayra thati ashshawkati takoonu lakumwayureedu Allahu an yuhiqqa alhaqqa bikalimatihiwayaqtaAAa dabira alkafireen

And when God promised you one of the two groups, that it would be yours, and you wished that the unarmed one might be yours (but God willed to establish the truth by His words, and to cut off the root of the false claimers of guidance,

Ith antum bilAAudwati addunyawahum bilAAudwati alquswa warrakbuasfala minkum walaw tawaAAadtum lakhtalaftum feealmeeAAadi walakin liyaqdiya Allahuamran kana mafAAoolan liyahlika man halaka AAan bayyinatinwayahya man hayya AAan bayyinatin wa-innaAllaha lasameeAAun AAaleem

When you were on the near bank, and they were on the far bank, and the caravan was lower than you. And had you agreed to meet, you would have failed in the appointment. Ith antum bilAAudwati addunyawahum bilAAudwati alquswa warrakbuasfala minkum walaw tawaAAadtum lakhtalaftum feealmeeAAadi walakin liyaqdiya Allahuamran kana mafAAoolan liyahlika man halaka AAan bayyinatinwayahya man hayya AAan bayyinatin wa-innaAllaha lasameeAAun AAaleem

When you were on the near bank, and they were on the far bank, and the caravan was lower than you. And had you agreed to meet, you would have failed in the appointment. But that God might conclude a matter that was done: — that there might perish he who perished upon clear evidence, and that there might live he who lived upon clear evidence; and God is hearing and knowing.

And God has promised the believing men and the believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow — they abiding eternally therein — and goodly dwellings in gardens of perpetual abode; and approval from God is greater; that is the Great Achievement.

Inna Allaha ishtara minaalmu/mineena anfusahum waamwalahum bi-anna lahumualjannata yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahifayaqtuloona wayuqtaloona waAAdan AAalayhi haqqan fee attawratiwal-injeeli walqur-ani waman awfabiAAahdihi mina Allahi fastabshiroo bibayAAikumuallathee bayaAAtum bihi wathalika huwaalfawzu alAAatheem

God has bought from the believers their lives and their wealth; for that the Garden is theirs — they fighting in the cause of God, killing and being killed — a promise binding upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur’an. And who better fulfils his covenant than God? Rejoice then in your bargain that you have contracted with Him; and that is the Great Achievement.

Unto Him is your return all together — the promise of God in truth. He begins creation, then He repeats it that He might reward those who heed warning and do righteous deeds with equity. And those who ignore warning will have a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment for what they denied.

Afaman kana AAala bayyinatinmin rabbihi wayatloohu shahidun minhu wamin qablihi kitabumoosa imaman warahmatan ola-ikayu/minoona bihi waman yakfur bihi mina al-ahzabi fannarumawAAiduhu fala taku fee miryatin minhu innahu alhaqqumin rabbika walakinna akthara annasi layu/minoon

Is then he who is upon clear evidence from his Lord[...]? And a witness from Him recites it; and before it was the Writ of Moses as an example and a mercy; those believe in it. But whoso denies it among the parties, then the Fire is his appointed place. And be thou not in doubt about it, it is the truth from thy Lord; but most men do not believe.

Said they: “O Lot: we are messengers of thy Lord; they will not reach thee. And travel thou with thy household during a portion of the night; and let not any one of you turn around save thy wife — there will befall her what befalls them. Their appointment is the morning; is then the morning not near?”

Walaw anna qur-anan suyyirat bihialjibalu aw quttiAAat bihi al-ardu awkullima bihi almawta bal lillahi al-amru jameeAAanafalam yay-asi allatheena amanoo an law yashaoAllahu lahada annasa jameeAAan walayazalu allatheena kafaroo tuseebuhum bimasanaAAoo qariAAatun aw tahullu qareeban mindarihim hatta ya/tiya waAAdu Allahiinna Allaha la yukhlifu almeeAAad

And were there a recitation whereby the mountains were set in motion, or the earth rent asunder, or the dead caused to speak[...]. The truth is, to God belongs the command altogether. Have not those who heed warning despaired that, had God willed, He would have guided mankind all together? And those who ignore warning: disaster will cease not to strike them for what they have wrought, or to descend near their abodes, until the promise of God comes; God will not break the appointment.

The likeness of the Garden, which is promised to those of prudent fear: beneath it rivers flow, its food constant and its shade. That is the final outcome of those who are in prudent fear; and the final outcome of the false claimers of guidance is the Fire.

Waqala ashshaytanulamma qudiya al-amru inna Allaha waAAadakumwaAAda alhaqqi wawaAAadtukum faakhlaftukum wama kanaliya AAalaykum min sultanin illa an daAAawtukum fastajabtumlee fala taloomoonee waloomoo anfusakum ma anabimusrikhikum wama antum bimusrikhiyya inneekafartu bima ashraktumooni min qablu inna aththalimeenalahum AAathabun aleem

And the satan will say when the matter is concluded: “God promised you the promise of truth; and I promised you, but I betrayed you. And I had not over you any authority except to call you — and you responded to me; so blame not me, but blame yourselves. I cannot aid you, and you cannot aid me. I deny your ascribing to me a partnership before; the wrongdoers: for them is a painful punishment.”

If you do good, you do good to your souls; and if you do evil, it is to them. Then when the promise of the latter came[...], that they should disgrace your faces, and enter the place of worship as they entered it the first time, and destroy all that they overcame with destruction.

Wakathalika aAAtharnaAAalayhim liyaAAlamoo anna waAAda Allahi haqqunwaanna asaAAata la rayba feeha ithyatanazaAAoona baynahum amrahum faqaloo ibnooAAalayhim bunyanan rabbuhum aAAlamu bihim qala allatheenaghalaboo AAala amrihim lanattakhithanna AAalayhimmasjida

“And thus did He acquaint us with them: that they might know that the promise of God is true, and that the Hour — there is no doubt concerning it.” When they contended with one another about their affair, then they said: “Build over them a structure; their Lord best knows concerning them.” Those who prevailed over their affair said: “We will take for them a place of worship.”

Say thou: “Whoso is in error — no matter the extent the Almighty extends for him — when they have seen what they are promised, whether it be the punishment or the Hour, then will they know who is worse in position and weaker in force.”

He said: “Then go thou, for in this life it is for thee to say: ‘Outcast!’ And there is for thee an appointment thou canst not fail to keep. And look thou upon thy god to which thou remainedst devoted! We will burn it; then will we scatter it in the sea with a blast.”

The day We fold up the heaven like the folding up of a scroll for the writs. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it — a promise binding upon Us. Truly, We are the doers.

Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatunabayyinatin taAArifu fee wujoohi allatheena kafarooalmunkara yakadoona yastoona billatheenayatloona AAalayhim ayatina qulafaonabbi-okum bisharrin min thalikum annaruwaAAadaha Allahu allatheena kafaroo wabi/saalmaseer

And when Our proofs are recited to them as clear signs, thou recognisest perversity in the faces of those who ignore warning; they all but attack those who recite Our proofs to them. Say thou: “Then shall I inform you of worse than that? The Fire God has promised to those who ignore warning! And evil is the journey’s end.”

WaAAada Allahu allatheena amanoominkum waAAamiloo assalihatilayastakhlifannahum fee al-ardi kama istakhlafaallatheena min qablihim walayumakkinanna lahum deenahumuallathee irtada lahum walayubaddilannahum minbaAAdi khawfihim amnan yaAAbudoonanee la yushrikoona beeshay-an waman kafara baAAda thalika faola-ika humualfasiqoon

(God has promised those who heed warning among you and do righteous deeds that He will make them successors in the earth, even as He made those successors who were before them. And He will establish for them their doctrine which He approved for them, and will give them in exchange after their fear, safety. They serve Me; they ascribe not a partnership with Me to anything — and whoso denies after that: — it is they who are the perfidious.)

اَفَمَنْ وَعَدْنَاهُ وَعْداً حَسَناً فَهُوَ لَاق۪يهِ كَمَنْ مَتَّعْنَاهُ مَتَاعَ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا ثُمَّ هُوَ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ مِنَ الْمُحْضَر۪ينَ

Afaman waAAadnahu waAAdan hasananfahuwa laqeehi kaman mattaAAnahu mataAAa alhayatiaddunya thumma huwa yawma alqiyamati minaalmuhdareen

Is then he whom We have promised a fair promise which he will meet like him to whom We gave the enjoyment of the life of this world, then on the Day of Resurrection is among those summoned?

### 28. Surah Al-Qasas, Verse 61
