Waminhum man yastamiAAu ilayka wajaAAalnaAAala quloobihim akinnatan an yafqahoohu wafee athanihimwaqran wa-in yaraw kulla ayatin la yu/minoo bihahatta itha jaooka yujadiloonakayaqoolu allatheena kafaroo in hatha illa asateerual-awwaleen

And among them are some who listen to thee, but We have placed upon their hearts coverings lest they should understand it, and in their ears deafness; and if they see every proof, they will not believe in it. When they have come to thee, they argue against thee, those who ignore warning, saying: “This is only legends of the former peoples.”

And when Our proofs are recited to them, they say: “We have heard; if we wished we could speak the like of this; this is only legends of the former peoples.”

And there is no city save We will destroy it before the Day of Resurrection, or punish it with severe punishment; that is in the Writ inscribed.

### 23. Surah Al-Mu'minun, Verse 83

Annabiyyu awla bilmu/mineenamin anfusihim waazwajuhu ommahatuhum waoloo al-arhamibaAAduhum awla bibaAAdin fee kitabiAllahi mina almu/mineena walmuhajireena illaan tafAAaloo ila awliya-ikum maAAroofan kanathalika fee alkitabi mastoora

The Prophet is closer to the believers than they themselves, and his wives are their mothers. But those of kinship are closer to one another in the Writ of God than are the believers and the émigrés, save that you do what is fitting to your allies; this is in the Writ inscribed.

### 46. Surah Al-Ahqaf, Verse 17

Wallathee qala liwalidayhioffin lakuma ataAAidaninee an okhraja waqad khalatialquroonu min qablee wahuma yastagheethani Allahawaylaka amin inna waAAda Allahi haqqunfayaqoolu ma hatha illa asateerual-awwaleen

And he who says to his parents: “Fie upon you! Do you promise me that I will be brought forth, when generations have already passed away before me?” while they seek aid of God: — “Woe to thee! Believe thou; the promise of God is true,” but he says: “This is only legends of the former peoples,” —
