- **Meaning:** to see/think/hold, in opinion of, perceive, judge, consider, know. ara'itaka / ara'itakum - do tell me thou/you (the personal pronoun Kaf is added for emphasis and is not purely as pleonism without adding to the meaning). tara'ni is for a compound word of a verb tara followed by a pronoun ni - you see me. badi al-ra'yi - having superficial view, outward appearance, first thought, apparently, without proper consideration. ra'yal'ain - to see with naked eye, judgement by sight. ri'yun - outward appearance, make a show. ru'ya - vision dream. a'lam tara - behold! lo! ri'aun - hypocrisy, ostentation, to be seen. tara'a - to see one another, consider, come in sight of one another. yura'una - they deceive hypocritically assuming a false appearance.

“Our Lord: make Thou us submitting to Thee, and of our progeny a community submitting to Thee; and show Thou us our rites, and turn Thou towards us; Thou art the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.

Qad nara taqalluba wajhika fee assama-ifalanuwalliyannaka qiblatan tardaha fawalli wajhakashatra almasjidi alharami wahaythu makuntum fawalloo wujoohakum shatrahu wa-inna allatheenaootoo alkitaba layaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu minrabbihim wama Allahu bighafilin AAammayaAAmaloon

We have seen the turning of thy face towards the sky, and We will turn thee towards a course that will satisfy thee. So direct thou thy face towards the inviolable place of worship. And wheresoever you be, direct your faces towards it; and those given the Writ know that it is the truth from their Lord, and God is not unmindful of what they do.

Wamina annasi man yattakhithumin dooni Allahi andadan yuhibboonahum kahubbiAllahi wallatheena amanoo ashaddu hubbanlillahi walaw yara allatheena thalamooith yarawna alAAathaba anna alquwwata lillahijameeAAan waanna Allaha shadeedu alAAathab

And among men is he who takes as equals other than God, loving them with a love like the love for God. But those who heed warning are stronger in love for God. And had those who do wrong seen when they will see the punishment — that power belongs to God altogether, and that God is the Severe in Punishment —

When those who were followed will disown those who followed; and they will see the punishment, and the connections between them will be cut,

Waqala allatheena ittabaAAoolaw anna lana karratan fanatabarraa minhum kamatabarraoo minna kathalika yureehimu AllahuaAAmalahum hasaratin AAalayhim wamahum bikharijeena mina annar

And those who followed will say: “Were we to return, we would disown them just as they have disowned us,”[...]. Thus will God show them their deeds as regrets for them; and they will not come out of the Fire.

Alam tara ila allatheenakharajoo min diyarihim wahum oloofun hatharaalmawti faqala lahumu Allahu mootoo thumma ahyahuminna Allaha lathoo fadlin AAala annasiwalakinna akthara annasi layashkuroon

Hast thou not considered those who went forth from their habitations in their thousands, fearing death? And God said to them: “Die”; then gave He them life. God is bountiful to mankind, but most men are not grateful.

اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الْمَلَأِ مِنْ بَن۪ٓي اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مُوسٰىۢ اِذْ قَالُوا لِنَبِيٍّ لَهُمُ ابْعَثْ لَنَا مَلِكاً نُقَاتِلْ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِۜ قَالَ هَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ اِنْ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْقِتَالُ اَلَّا تُقَاتِلُواۜ قَالُوا وَمَا لَـنَٓا اَلَّا نُقَاتِلَ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِ وَقَدْ اُخْرِجْنَا مِنْ دِيَارِنَا وَاَبْنَٓائِنَاۜ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقِتَالُ تَوَلَّوْا اِلَّا قَل۪يلاً مِنْهُمْۜ وَاللّٰهُ عَل۪يمٌ بِالظَّالِم۪ينَ

Alam tara ila almala-i min banee isra-eelamin baAAdi moosa ith qaloo linabiyyin lahumuibAAath lana malikan nuqatil fee sabeeli Allahiqala hal AAasaytum in kutiba AAalaykumu alqitalualla tuqatiloo qaloo wama lanaalla nuqatila fee sabeeli Allahi waqadokhrijna min diyarina waabna-inafalamma kutiba AAalayhimu alqitalu tawallaw illaqaleelan minhum wallahu AAaleemun biththalimeen

Hast thou not considered the eminent ones of the children of Israel after Moses? When they said to a prophet of theirs: “Raise thou up for us a king; we will fight in the cause of God,” he said: “Would you, if fighting be prescribed for you, not fight?” They said: “And why should we not fight in the cause of God when we have been turned out of our homes, and our children?” But when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away save a few of them. And God knows the wrongdoers.

اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذ۪ي حَٓاجَّ اِبْرٰه۪يمَ ف۪ي رَبِّه۪ٓ اَنْ اٰتٰيهُ اللّٰهُ الْمُلْكَۢ اِذْ قَالَ اِبْرٰه۪يمُ رَبِّيَ الَّذ۪ي يُحْـي۪ وَيُم۪يتُۙ قَالَ اَنَا۬ اُحْـي۪ وَاُم۪يتُۜ قَالَ اِبْرٰه۪يمُ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَأْت۪ي بِالشَّمْسِ مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ فَأْتِ بِهَا مِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ فَبُهِتَ الَّذ۪ي كَفَرَۜ وَاللّٰهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِم۪ينَۚ

Alam tara ila allathee hajjaibraheema fee rabbihi an atahu Allahualmulka ith qala ibraheemu rabbiya allatheeyuhyee wayumeetu qala ana ohyeewaomeetu qala ibraheemu fa-inna Allahaya/tee bishshamsi mina almashriqi fa/ti biha minaalmaghribi fabuhita allathee kafara wallahula yahdee alqawma aththalimeen

Hast thou not considered the one who disputed with Abraham concerning his Lord because God had given him dominion? When Abraham said: “My Lord is He who gives life, and gives death,” he said: “I give life, and I give death.” Abraham said: “God brings the sun from the East; so bring thou it from the West.” Then was the one who ignored warning lost for words; and God guides not the wrongdoing people.

Wa-ith qala ibraheemurabbi arinee kayfa tuhyee almawta qala awalam tu/min qala bala walakin liyatma-innaqalbee qala fakhuth arbaAAatan mina attayrifasurhunna ilayka thumma ijAAal AAala kulli jabalinminhunna juz-an thumma odAAuhunna ya/teenaka saAAyan waAAlamanna Allaha AAazeezun hakeem

And when Abraham said: “My Lord, show Thou me how Thou wilt give life to the dead,” He said: “Dost thou not believe?” Said he: “Verily, but that my heart should be at rest.” He said: “Take thou four birds, and cause thou them to incline to thee; then place thou a part of them upon each hill; then call thou to them — they will come to thee in haste. And know thou that God is exalted in might and wise.”

يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا لَا تُبْطِلُوا صَدَقَاتِكُمْ بِالْمَنِّ وَالْاَذٰىۙ كَالَّذ۪ي يُنْفِقُ مَالَهُ رِئَٓاءَ النَّاسِ وَلَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِۜ فَمَثَلُهُ كَمَثَلِ صَفْوَانٍ عَلَيْهِ تُرَابٌ فَاَصَابَهُ وَابِلٌ فَتَرَكَهُ صَلْداًۜ لَا يَقْدِرُونَ عَلٰى شَيْءٍ مِمَّا كَسَبُواۜ وَاللّٰهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْكَافِر۪ينَ

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tubtiloo sadaqatikum bilmanniwal-atha kallathee yunfiqu malahuri-aa annasi wala yu/minu billahiwalyawmi al-akhiri famathaluhu kamathali safwaninAAalayhi turabun faasabahu wabilunfatarakahu saldan la yaqdiroona AAalashay-in mimma kasaboo wallahu layahdee alqawma alkafireen

O you who heed warning: make not your charity vain through condescension and hindrance, like one who spends his wealth to be seen of men and believes not in God and the Last Day. And his likeness is as the likeness of a rock whereon is dust: a downpour fell upon it leaving it bare; they possess nothing from what they have earned; and God guides not the people of the false claimers of guidance.

### 3. Surah Ali 'Imran, Verse 13

Qad kana lakum ayatun feefi-atayni iltaqata fi-atun tuqatilu fee sabeeli Allahiwaokhra kafiratun yarawnahum mithlayhim ra/yaalAAayni wallahu yu-ayyidu binasrihi manyashao inna fee thalika laAAibratan li-olee al-absar

There had been a proof for you in the two hosts which met: one host fighting in the cause of God, and another denying; they saw them as twice their like by the sight of the eye. But God strengthens with His help whom He wills; in that is a lesson for those of vision.

Hast thou not considered those given a portion of the Writ? They are invited to the Writ of God, that it might judge between them, then a faction of them turns away; and they are averse,

Walaqad sadaqakumu AllahuwaAAdahu ith tahussoonahum bi-ithnihi hattaitha fashiltum watanazaAAtum fee al-amri waAAasaytummin baAAdi ma arakum ma tuhibboonaminkum man yureedu addunya waminkum man yureedual-akhirata thumma sarafakum AAanhum liyabtaliyakumwalaqad AAafa AAankum wallahu thoofadlin AAala almu/mineen

And God was indeed true in His promise to you. When you were aware of them by His leave, when you had lost heart and disputed concerning the affair, and rebelled after He had shown you what you love[...]. Among you is he who desires the World; and among you is he who desires the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them that He might try you; and He has pardoned you; and God is bountiful to the believers.

And those who spend their wealth to be seen of men, and believe not in God or the Last Day; and to whom the satan is a companion, then evil is he as a companion.

Alam tara ila allatheenayazAAumoona annahum amanoo bima onzila ilayka wamaonzila min qablika yureedoona an yatahakamoo ila attaghootiwaqad omiroo an yakfuroo bihi wayureedu ashshaytanuan yudillahum dalalan baAAeeda

Hast thou not considered those who claim to believe in what is sent down to thee, and what was sent down before thee, desiring to go for judgment to idols when they were commanded to reject it? And the satan desires to lead them far astray.

Alam tara ila allatheena qeelalahum kuffoo aydiyakum waaqeemoo assalatawaatoo azzakata falamma kutibaAAalayhimu alqitalu itha fareequn minhum yakhshawnaannasa kakhashyati Allahi aw ashaddakhashyatan waqaloo rabbana lima katabta AAalaynaalqitala lawla akhkhartana ila ajalinqareebin qul mataAAu addunya qaleelun wal-akhiratukhayrun limani ittaqa wala tuthlamoonafateela

Hast thou not considered those to whom it was said: “Restrain your hands; and uphold the duty, and render the purity,” but when fighting is prescribed for them, then a faction among them fears men like the fear of God, or a stronger fear? And they said: “Our Lord: why hast Thou prescribed fighting for us? Oh, that Thou wouldst but delay us a little while!” Say thou: “Little is the enjoyment of the World”; and the Hereafter is better for him who is in prudent fear; and you will not be wronged a hair upon a date-stone.

The waverers seek to deceive God, but He is deceiving them; and when they rise up for the duty, they rise up to be seen of men, and remember not God save a little,

Yas-aluka ahlu alkitabi an tunazzilaAAalayhim kitaban mina assama-i faqadsaaloo moosa akbara min thalika faqaloo arinaAllaha jahratan faakhathat-humu assaAAiqatubithulmihim thumma ittakhathoo alAAijla minbaAAdi ma jaat-humu albayyinatu faAAafawnaAAan thalika waatayna moosa sultananmubeena

The doctors of the Law ask thee to bring down upon them a Writ from the sky; and they asked of Moses greater than that; they said: “Show thou us God openly”; so the thunderbolt seized them for their injustice. Then took they up the calf after clear signs had come to them, and We pardoned that; and We gave Moses a clear authority.

FabaAAatha Allahu ghuraban yabhathufee al-ardi liyuriyahu kayfa yuwaree saw-ataakheehi qala ya waylata aAAajaztu an akoonamithla hatha alghurabi faowariya saw-ataakhee faasbaha mina annadimeen

Then God raised up a raven, scratching in the earth, to show him how to hide the shame of his brother. He said: “Woe is me! Am I not able to be as this raven, and hide the shame of my brother?” And he became of the remorseful.

Fatara allatheena feequloobihim maradun yusariAAoona feehim yaqooloonanakhsha an tuseebana da-iratun faAAasaAllahu an ya/tiya bilfathi aw amrin minAAindihi fayusbihoo AAala ma asarroofee anfusihim nadimeen

And thou seest those in whose hearts is disease competing among them, saying: “We fear lest a reversal befall us.” But it may be that God will bring victory or a command from Him and they will become of what they concealed within their souls, remorseful.

And thou seest many of them competing in sin and enmity and their consumption of illicit gain; evil is what they do.

Thou seest many of them taking allies of those who ignore warning; evil is what their souls have sent ahead for them, that God is wroth with them; and in the punishment will they abide eternally.

And when they listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger, thou seest their eyes overflow with tears because of what they recognise of the truth. They say: “Our Lord: we believe, so write Thou us down among the witnesses;

Alam yaraw kam ahlakna min qablihimmin qarnin makkannahum fee al-ardi ma lamnumakkin lakum waarsalna assamaa AAalayhimmidraran wajaAAalna al-anhara tajree min tahtihimfaahlaknahum bithunoobihim waansha/na minbaAAdihim qarnan akhareen

Have they not considered how many a generation We destroyed before them? We established them in the earth as We have not established you, and We sent the sky upon them in abundant rains and made the rivers flow beneath them; then We destroyed them for their transgressions, and produced after them another generation.

Waminhum man yastamiAAu ilayka wajaAAalnaAAala quloobihim akinnatan an yafqahoohu wafee athanihimwaqran wa-in yaraw kulla ayatin la yu/minoo bihahatta itha jaooka yujadiloonakayaqoolu allatheena kafaroo in hatha illa asateerual-awwaleen

And among them are some who listen to thee, but We have placed upon their hearts coverings lest they should understand it, and in their ears deafness; and if they see every proof, they will not believe in it. When they have come to thee, they argue against thee, those who ignore warning, saying: “This is only legends of the former peoples.”

Walaw tara ith wuqifoo AAalaannari faqaloo ya laytananuraddu wala nukaththiba bi-ayatirabbina wanakoona mina almu/mineen

And if thou couldst see when they are set before the Fire: — then they will say: “Would that we were sent back! Then would we not deny the proofs of our Lord, but be among the believers.”

And if thou couldst see when they are set before their Lord: — He will say: “Is then this not the truth?” They will say: “Verily, by our Lord!” He will say: “Then taste the punishment for what you denied!”

Say thou: “Have you considered: if the punishment of God comes upon you, or the Hour comes upon you, will you call to other than God, if you be truthful?”

Qul araaytum in akhatha AllahusamAAakum waabsarakum wakhatama AAala quloobikumman ilahun ghayru Allahi ya/teekum bihi onthurkayfa nusarrifu al-ayati thumma hum yasdifoon

Say thou: “Have you considered: if God takes away your hearing and your sight and seals your hearts, who is the god save God who will restore it to you?” See thou how We expound the proofs; then they turn away.

قُلْ اَرَاَيْتَكُمْ اِنْ اَتٰيكُمْ عَذَابُ اللّٰهِ بَغْتَةً اَوْ جَهْرَةً هَلْ يُهْلَكُ اِلَّا الْقَوْمُ الظَّالِمُونَ

Qul araaytakum in atakum AAathabuAllahi baghtatan aw jahratan hal yuhlaku illaalqawmu aththalimoon

Say thou: “Have you considered: if the punishment of God come to you unexpectedly or with warning, will there be destroyed save the wrongdoing people?”

Wa-itha raayta allatheenayakhoodoona fee ayatina faaAAridAAanhum hatta yakhoodoo fee hadeethinghayrihi wa-imma yunsiyannaka ashshaytanufala taqAAud baAAda aththikra maAAaalqawmi aththalimeen

And when thou seest those who discourse vainly concerning Our proofs, turn thou away from them until they discourse vainly concerning a subject other than it; and if the satan cause thee to forget, then sit thou not ­after the reminder with the wrongdoing people.

Waman athlamu mimmani iftaraAAala Allahi kathiban aw qala oohiyailayya walam yooha ilayhi shay-on waman qalasaonzilu mithla ma anzala Allahu walaw taraithi aththalimoona fee ghamaratialmawti walmala-ikatu basitooaydeehim akhrijoo anfusakumu alyawma tujzawna AAathabaalhooni bima kuntum taqooloona AAala Allahighayra alhaqqi wakuntum AAan ayatihitastakbiroon

And who is more unjust than he who invents a lie about God, or says: “It has been revealed to me,” when nothing has been revealed to him, and who says: “I will send down the like of what God sent down”? And if thou couldst see when the wrongdoers are in the throes of death and the angels stretching out their hands: “Bring forth your souls; this day are you rewarded with the punishment of humiliation because you ascribed to God other than the truth, and waxed proud at His proofs!”[...].

Walaqad ji/tumoona furadakama khalaqnakum awwala marratin wataraktum makhawwalnakum waraa thuhoorikum wamanara maAAakum shufaAAaakumu allatheenazaAAamtum annahum feekum shurakao laqad taqattaAAabaynakum wadalla AAankum ma kuntum tazAAumoon

“And now have you come to Us alone, as We created you the first time; and you have left all that We conferred upon you behind your backs; and We see not with you your intercessors which you claimed were among you as partners; it is cut off between you, and strayed from you is what you claimed.”

O children of Adam: let not the satan subject you to means of denial as he turned your parents out of the garden, removing from them their raiment, that he might make manifest their shame to them. He and his kind see you from where you see them not. We have made the satans allies of those who do not believe.

Walamma jaa moosalimeeqatina wakallamahu rabbuhu qala rabbiarinee anthur ilayka qala lan taraneewalakini onthur ila aljabali fa-iniistaqarra makanahu fasawfa taranee falammatajalla rabbuhu liljabali jaAAalahu dakkan wakharra moosasaAAiqan falamma afaqa qala subhanakatubtu ilayka waana awwalu almu/mineen

And when Moses came at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said: “My Lord: show Thou me that I might look upon Thee.” Said He: “Thou wilt not see Me; but look thou upon the mountain: if it should remain in its place, then thou wilt see Me.” And when his Lord was revealed upon the mountain, He made it level; and Moses fell down thunderstruck. Then when he recovered, he said: “Glory be to Thee! I turn to Thee repentant; and I am the first of the believers!”

And We wrote for him on the tablets every thing as an admonition and an explanation for everything: “Hold thou them fast, and command thou thy people to take the best thereof. I will show thee the abode of the perfidious:

Saasrifu AAan ayatiyaallatheena yatakabbaroona fee al-ardi bighayri alhaqqiwa-in yaraw kulla ayatin la yu/minoo bihawa-in yaraw sabeela arrushdi la yattakhithoohusabeelan wa-in yaraw sabeela alghayyi yattakhithoohusabeelan thalika bi-annahum kaththaboo bi-ayatinawakanoo AAanha ghafileen

“I will divert from My proofs those who wax proud in the earth without cause; and if they see every proof believe in it not; and if they see the path of sound judgment take it not as a path, but if they see the path of error take it as a path. For it is that they denied Our proofs and were heedless of them!”

سَاَصْرِفُ عَنْ اٰيَاتِيَ الَّذ۪ينَ يَتَكَبَّرُونَ فِي الْاَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّۜ وَاِنْ يَرَوْا كُلَّ اٰيَةٍ لَا يُؤْمِنُوا بِهَاۚ وَاِنْ يَرَوْا سَب۪يلَ الرُّشْدِ لَا يَتَّخِذُوهُ سَب۪يلاًۚ وَاِنْ يَرَوْا سَب۪يلَ الْغَيِّ يَتَّخِذُوهُ سَب۪يلاًۜ ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَا وَكَانُوا عَنْهَا غَافِل۪ينَ

Saasrifu AAan ayatiyaallatheena yatakabbaroona fee al-ardi bighayri alhaqqiwa-in yaraw kulla ayatin la yu/minoo bihawa-in yaraw sabeela arrushdi la yattakhithoohusabeelan wa-in yaraw sabeela alghayyi yattakhithoohusabeelan thalika bi-annahum kaththaboo bi-ayatinawakanoo AAanha ghafileen

“I will divert from My proofs those who wax proud in the earth without cause; and if they see every proof believe in it not; and if they see the path of sound judgment take it not as a path, but if they see the path of error take it as a path. For it is that they denied Our proofs and were heedless of them!”

And the people of Moses, while he was away, took up a calf out of their ornaments — a body that lowed. Did they not consider that it spoke not to them, neither guided them to a path? They took it up, and were wrongdoers.

And when the satan made their deeds fair to them, and said: “None among men can defeat you this day, when I am at your side,” then when the two companies came within sight of one another, he turned on his heels and said: “I am quit of you; I see what you see not. I fear God”; and God is severe in retribution.

Then sent God His tranquillity upon His messenger, and upon the believers, and sent down forces you did not see, and punished those who ignored warning; and that is the reward of the false claimers of guidance;

Illa tansuroohu faqad nasarahuAllahu ith akhrajahu allatheena kafaroo thaniyaithnayni ith huma fee alghari ithyaqoolu lisahibihi la tahzan inna AllahamaAAana faanzala Allahu sakeenatahu AAalayhiwaayyadahu bijunoodin lam tarawha wajaAAala kalimata allatheenakafaroo assufla wakalimatu Allahi hiyaalAAulya wallahu AAazeezun hakeem

Save you help him. And God helped him when those who ignore warning turned him out, the second of two, when they were in the cave, when he said to his companion: “Grieve thou not; God is with us.” Then God sent down His tranquillity upon him, and strengthened him with forces you did not see, and made the word of those who ignore warning the lowest; and the word of God, it is the uppermost; and God is exalted in might and wise.

### 9. Surah At-Tawbah, Verse 94

يَعْتَذِرُونَ اِلَيْكُمْ اِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ اِلَيْهِمْۜ قُلْ لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا لَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لَكُمْ قَدْ نَبَّاَنَا اللّٰهُ مِنْ اَخْبَارِكُمْۜ وَسَيَرَى اللّٰهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ اِلٰى عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

YaAAtathiroona ilaykum itharajaAAtum ilayhim qul la taAAtathiroo lan nu/minalakum qad nabbaana Allahu min akhbarikumwasayara Allahu AAamalakum warasooluhu thummaturaddoona ila AAalimi alghaybi washshahadatifayunabbi-okum bima kuntum taAAmaloon

They will make excuses to you when you return to them. Say thou: “Make not excuses; we will not believe you. God has already informed us of your assertions.” God will see your deeds, as will His messenger, then will you be brought back to the Knower of the Unseen and the Seen, and He will tell you what you did.

Waquli iAAmaloo fasayara AllahuAAamalakum warasooluhu walmu/minoona wasaturaddoona ilaAAalimi alghaybi washshahadatifayunabbi-okum bima kuntum taAAmaloon

And say thou: “Act!” Then will God see your actions, as will His messenger, and the believers; and you will be sent back to the Knower of the Unseen and the Seen, and He will tell you what you did.

See they not that they are subjected to means of denial once or twice every year? Then do they turn not in repentance, nor do they take heed.

Wa-itha ma onzilat sooratunnathara baAAduhum ila baAAdinhal yarakum min ahadin thumma insarafoo sarafaAllahu quloobahum bi-annahum qawmun la yafqahoon

And when a sūrah is sent down, they look at each other: “Does anybody see you?” Then they turn away. God has turned away their hearts because they are people who understand not.

وَلَوْ اَنَّ لِكُلِّ نَفْسٍ ظَلَمَتْ مَا فِي الْاَرْضِ لَافْتَدَتْ بِه۪ۜ وَاَسَرُّوا النَّدَامَةَ لَمَّا رَاَوُا الْعَذَابَۚ وَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُمْ بِالْقِسْطِ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ

Walaw anna likulli nafsin thalamatma fee al-ardi laftadat bihi waasarroo annadamatalamma raawoo alAAathaba waqudiya baynahum bilqistiwahum la yuthlamoon

And were there for each soul that did wrong all that is in the earth, it would seek to ransom itself thereby; and they cannot express the remorse when they see the punishment, and it is concluded between them with equity; and they will not be wronged.

And Moses said: “Our Lord: Thou hast given Pharaoh and his eminent ones adornment and wealth in the life of this world, our Lord, that they might lead astray from Thy path. Our Lord: destroy Thou their wealth, and harden Thou their hearts, so that they believe not until they see the painful punishment.”

And: “O my people: I ask of you for it no wealth; my reward is only upon God. And I am not one to drive away those who heed warning; they are going to meet their Lord. But I see you are a people in ignorance.”

He said: “O my people: have you considered: if I be upon clear evidence from my Lord, and He has given me mercy from Him, then who would help me against God if I disobeyed Him? Then would you not increase me other than in loss.”

And when he saw their hands reaching not towards it, he was suspicious of them, and conceived a fear from them. They said: “Fear thou not; we have been sent to the people of Lot.”

And to Madyan, their brother Shuʿayb: he said: “O my people: serve God; you have no god but He; so decrease not the measure and the balance. I see you in affluence, but I fear for you the punishment of an encompassing day.”

Qala ya qawmi araaytum inkuntu AAala bayyinatin min rabbee warazaqanee minhu rizqanhasanan wama oreedu an okhalifakum ilama anhakum AAanhu in oreedu illa al-islahama istataAAtu wama tawfeeqee illa billahiAAalayhi tawakkaltu wa-ilayhi oneeb

He said: “O my people: have you considered: if I be upon clear evidence from my Lord, and He has provided me with a goodly provision from Him[...]? But I desire not to oppose you in that which I forbid you; I desire only right ordering, so far as I am able. And my success is only through God; in Him have I placed my trust, and to Him do I turn.”

They said: “O Shuʿayb: we understand not much of what thou sayest; and we consider thee among us as weak. And were it not for thy family, we would have stoned thee; and thou art not to us one respected.”

And she desired him; and he desired her[...] were it not that he saw the evidence of his Lord. Thus — that We might turn away from him evil and sexual immorality; he was among Our sincere servants.

And women in the city said: “The wife of the Governor is seeking to lure her houseboy away from his soul; he has enslaved her to love; we see her in manifest error.”
