- **Meaning:** To intend, be moderate, steer a middle course, go or proceed straight away, aim at, intend, repair, purpose, act moderately. Qasdun - the right way, middle path, right direction, leading the right path, aim, intention, straight and right road, just. Qasidun - easy or moderate (journey). Muqtasidun - one who keeps to the right and moderate path, who falls between the two extremes or upper limit and lower limit, of good intentions.

Walaw annahum aqamoo attawratawal-injeela wama onzila ilayhim min rabbihimlaakaloo min fawqihim wamin tahti arjulihim minhum ommatunmuqtasidatun wakatheerun minhum saa mayaAAmaloon

And had they upheld the Torah and the Gospel and what was sent down to them from their Lord, they would have eaten from above them and from under their feet. Among them is a moderate community; but many of them, evil is what they do.

لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضاً قَر۪يباً وَسَفَراً قَاصِداً لَاتَّـبَعُوكَ وَلٰكِنْ بَعُدَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الشُّقَّةُۜ وَسَيَحْلِفُونَ بِاللّٰهِ لَوِ اسْتَطَعْنَا لَخَرَجْنَا مَعَكُمْۚ يُهْلِكُونَ اَنْفُسَهُمْۚ وَاللّٰهُ يَعْلَمُ اِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ۟

Law kana AAaradan qareebanwasafaran qasidan lattabaAAooka walakinbaAAudat AAalayhimu ashshuqqatu wasayahlifoona billahilawi istataAAna lakharajna maAAakumyuhlikoona anfusahum wallahu yaAAlamu innahum lakathiboon

Had it been goods nearby and a short journey, they would have followed thee; but far for them was the destination. And they will swear by God: “Had we been able, we would have gone forth with you,” destroying their souls; and God knows that they are liars.

### 31. Surah Luqman, Verse 19

وَاِذَا غَشِيَهُمْ مَوْجٌ كَالظُّلَلِ دَعَوُا اللّٰهَ مُخْلِص۪ينَ لَهُ الدّ۪ينَۚ فَلَمَّا نَجّٰيهُمْ اِلَى الْبَرِّ فَمِنْهُمْ مُقْتَصِدٌۜوَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِاٰيَاتِنَٓا اِلَّا كُلُّ خَتَّارٍ كَفُورٍ

Wa-itha ghashiyahum mawjun kaththulalidaAAawoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu addeenafalamma najjahum ila albarri faminhum muqtasidunwama yajhadu bi-ayatina illakullu khattarin kafoor

And when a wave covers them like canopies they call to God, sincere to Him in doctrine; then when He delivers them to the land, some among them are lukewarm. And none rejects Our proofs but everyone treacherous and ungrateful.

### 35. Surah Fatir, Verse 32

ثُمَّ اَوْرَثْنَا الْكِتَابَ الَّذ۪ينَ اصْطَفَيْنَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَاۚ فَمِنْهُمْ ظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِه۪ۚ وَمِنْهُمْ مُقْتَصِدٌۚ وَمِنْهُمْ سَابِقٌ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ بِاِذْنِ اللّٰهِۜ ذٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَضْلُ الْكَب۪يرُۜ

Thumma awrathna alkitaba allatheenaistafayna min AAibadina faminhum thalimunlinafsihi waminhum muqtasidun waminhum sabiqun bilkhayratibi-ithni Allahi thalika huwa alfadlualkabeer

Then We caused to inherit the Writ those whom We have chosen of Our servants; and among them is he who wrongs his soul, and among them is one lukewarm, and among them are the frontrunners in good deeds by the leave of God; that is the great favour.
