Yakadu albarqu yakhtafu absarahumkullama adaa lahum mashaw feehi wa-itha athlamaAAalayhim qamoo walaw shaa Allahu lathahababisamAAihim waabsarihim inna Allaha AAalakulli shay-in qadeer

The lightning nigh snatches away their sight; whenever it gives them light, they walk therein; and when it darkens over them, they stand still. And had God willed, He would have taken away their hearing and their sight; God is over all things powerful.

Qala innahu yaqoolu innahabaqaratun la thaloolun tutheeru al-arda walatasqee alhartha musallamatun la shiyata feehaqaloo al-ana ji/ta bilhaqqi fathabahoohawama kadoo yafAAaloon

He said: “He says: ‘She is a heifer neither broken to plough the earth nor to water the tilth, perfect, no blemish on her.’” They said: “Now hast thou brought the truth.” Then they sacrificed her, but they had hardly done it.

Aynama takoonoo yudrikkumu almawtuwalaw kuntum fee buroojin mushayyadatin wa-in tusibhum hasanatunyaqooloo hathihi min AAindi Allahi wa-in tusibhumsayyi-atun yaqooloo hathihi min AAindika qul kullun minAAindi Allahi famali haola-i alqawmila yakadoona yafqahoona hadeetha

Wherever you be, death will overtake you, though you be in castles built high. And if good befalls them, they say: “This is from God”; and if evil befalls them, they say: “This is from thee.” Say thou: “All is from God.” Then what ails these people that they scarcely understand a statement?

Walamma rajaAAa moosa ilaqawmihi ghadbana asifan qala bi/samakhalaftumoonee min baAAdee aAAajiltum amra rabbikum waalqa al-alwahawaakhatha bira/si akheehi yajurruhu ilayhi qalaibna omma inna alqawma istadAAafoonee wakadooyaqtuloonanee fala tushmit biya al-aAAdaa walatajAAalnee maAAa alqawmi aththalimeen

And when Moses returned to his people, wrathful and grieved, he said: “Evil is what you took up while I was away; were you impatient over the command of your Lord?” And he cast down the tablets, and seized his brother by the head, dragging him to him. Said he: “Son of my mother: the people despised me and were about to kill me. Then cause thou not the enemies to gloat over me, nor place thou me with the wrongdoing people.”

Laqad taba Allahu AAalaannabiyyi walmuhajireena wal-ansariallatheena ittabaAAoohu fee saAAati alAAusrati minbaAAdi ma kada yazeeghu quloobu fareeqin minhumthumma taba AAalayhim innahu bihim raoofun raheem

God has turned towards the Prophet, and the émigrés, and the helpers who followed him in the hour of hardship, after the hearts of a faction among them had almost deviated; then turned He towards them — He is to them kind and merciful —

He will gulp it, but will scarcely swallow it; and death will come at him from every place, but he is not to die. And beyond him is a stern punishment.

And they had almost seduced thee away from that We revealed to thee, that thou invent about Us other than it — and then would they have taken thee as a friend.

Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatunabayyinatin taAArifu fee wujoohi allatheena kafarooalmunkara yakadoona yastoona billatheenayatloona AAalayhim ayatina qulafaonabbi-okum bisharrin min thalikum annaruwaAAadaha Allahu allatheena kafaroo wabi/saalmaseer

And when Our proofs are recited to them as clear signs, thou recognisest perversity in the faces of those who ignore warning; they all but attack those who recite Our proofs to them. Say thou: “Then shall I inform you of worse than that? The Fire God has promised to those who ignore warning! And evil is the journey’s end.”

Allahu nooru assamawatiwal-ardi mathalu noorihi kamishkatin feehamisbahun almisbahu fee zujajatinazzujajatu kaannaha kawkabun durriyyunyooqadu min shajaratin mubarakatin zaytoonatin lasharqiyyatin wala gharbiyyatin yakadu zaytuhayudee-o walaw lam tamsas-hu narun noorun AAalanoorin yahdee Allahu linoorihi man yashao wayadribuAllahu al-amthala linnasi wallahubikulli shay-in AAaleem

God is the light of the heavens and the earth. The likeness of His light is as a niche wherein is a lamp — the lamp in a glass, the glass as it were a shining star — lit from a blessed tree, an olive neither of East nor West; its oil would nigh illuminate, though no fire touched it: — light upon light! — God guides to His light whom He wills! And God strikes similitudes for men; and God knows all things.

Aw kathulumatin fee bahrinlujjiyyin yaghshahu mawjun min fawqihi mawjun min fawqihisahabun thulumatun baAAduhafawqa baAAdin itha akhraja yadahu lam yakad yarahawaman lam yajAAali Allahu lahu nooran fama lahu minnoor

Or like darkness in a fathomless sea: there covers it a wave, above which is a wave, above which are clouds: — darknesses one above another! — when he holds out his hand, he scarcely sees it. And he for whom God has made no light, there is for him no light.

اَلَمْ تَرَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يُزْج۪ي سَحَاباً ثُمَّ يُؤَلِّفُ بَيْنَهُ ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُ رُكَاماً فَتَرَى الْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَالِه۪ۚ وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ مِنْ جِبَالٍ ف۪يهَا مِنْ بَرَدٍ فَيُص۪يبُ بِه۪ مَنْ يَشَٓاءُ وَيَصْرِفُهُ عَنْ مَنْ يَشَٓاءُۜ  يَكَادُ سَنَا بَرْقِه۪ يَذْهَبُ بِالْاَبْصَارِۜ

Alam tara anna Allaha yuzjee sahabanthumma yu-allifu baynahu thumma yajAAaluhu rukaman fataraalwadqa yakhruju min khilalihi wayunazzilu mina assama-imin jibalin feeha min baradin fayuseebu bihiman yashao wayasrifuhu AAan man yashao yakadusana barqihi yathhabu bil-absar

Dost thou not see that God drives the clouds? Then He brings them together; then He makes them a mass, and thou seest the rain come forth from the midst of it. And He sends down from the sky, from mountains therein of hail, and He strikes therewith whom He wills, and turns away therefrom whom He wills. The brilliance of His lightning almost takes away the sight.

“He had almost led us astray from our gods, were we not steadfast towards them.” And they will know, when they see the punishment, who is further astray in the path.

In the morning the heart of the mother of Moses became void; she had almost disclosed him had We not fortified her heart, that she be of the believers.

The heavens are nigh rent from above themselves, and the angels give glory with the praise of their Lord and ask forgiveness for those upon the earth. In truth, God, He is the Forgiver, the Merciful.

Almost bursting with rage. Whenever a crowd is cast therein, the keepers thereof ask them: “Came there not to you a warner?”

And those who ignore warning almost cause thee to slip with their eyes when they hear the remembrance, and they say: “He is possessed.”

وَاَنَّهُ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَداًۜ۟

Waannahu lamma qama AAabdu AllahiyadAAoohu kadoo yakoonoona AAalayhi libada

“And that, when the servant of God stood up, calling to Him, they were almost a compact mass about him.”
