Surah Al-Hajj, Verse 78 - **Form in this verse:** ٱجْتَبَىٰكُمْ — ij'tabākum · "(has) chosen you" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of ifti'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · past tense وَجَاهِدُوا فِي اللّٰهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِه۪ۜ هُوَ اجْتَبٰيكُمْ وَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الدّ۪ينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍۜ مِلَّةَ اَب۪يكُمْ اِبْرٰه۪يمَۜ هُوَ سَمّٰيكُمُ الْمُسْلِم۪ينَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَف۪ي هٰذَا لِيَكُونَ الرَّسُولُ شَه۪يداً عَلَيْكُمْ وَتَكُونُوا شُهَدَٓاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِۚ فَاَق۪يمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِاللّٰهِۜ هُوَ مَوْلٰيكُمْۚ فَنِعْمَ الْمَوْلٰى وَنِعْمَ النَّص۪يرُ Wajahidoo fee Allahi haqqajihadihi huwa ijtabakum wama jaAAalaAAalaykum fee addeeni min harajin millata abeekumibraheema huwa sammakumu almuslimeena min qabluwafee hatha liyakoona arrasoolu shaheedanAAalaykum watakoonoo shuhadaa AAala annasifaaqeemoo assalata waatoo azzakatawaAAtasimoo billahi huwa mawlakumfaniAAma almawla waniAAma annaseer And strive for God with the striving due Him. He has chosen you, and has not placed upon you in doctrine any distress — the creed of your father Abraham. He named you those submitting before, and in this, that the Messenger might be a witness to you, and that you might be witnesses to men. So uphold the duty, and render the purity, and hold fast to God; He is your protector. Then excellent is the Protector! Surah Al-Qasas, Verse 57 - **Form in this verse:** يُجْبَىٰٓ — yuj'bā · "are brought" - **Grammar:** verb · passive · 3rd person, masculine, singular · present tense وَقَالُٓوا اِنْ نَتَّبِـعِ الْهُدٰى مَعَكَ نُتَخَطَّفْ مِنْ اَرْضِنَاۜ اَوَلَمْ نُمَكِّنْ لَهُمْ حَرَماً اٰمِناً يُجْبٰٓى اِلَيْهِ ثَمَرَاتُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ رِزْقاً مِنْ لَدُنَّا وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ Waqaloo in nattabiAAi alhudamaAAaka nutakhattaf min ardina awa lamnumakkin lahum haraman aminan yujba ilayhithamaratu kulli shay-in rizqan min ladunna walakinnaaktharahum la yaAAlamoon And they say: “If we follow the guidance with thee, we will be swept from our land.” Have We not established for them a sanctuary secure whereto are collected the fruits of all things as a provision from Us? Surah Ash-Shuraa, Verse 13 - **Form in this verse:** يَجْتَبِىٓ — yajtabī · "chooses" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of ifti'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · present tense شَرَعَ لَكُمْ مِنَ الدّ۪ينِ مَا وَصّٰى بِه۪ نُوحاً وَالَّـذ۪ٓي اَوْحَيْنَٓا اِلَيْكَ وَمَا وَصَّيْنَا بِه۪ٓ اِبْرٰه۪يمَ وَمُوسٰى وَع۪يسٰٓى اَنْ اَق۪يمُوا الدّ۪ينَ وَلَا تَتَفَرَّقُوا ف۪يهِۜ كَبُرَ عَلَى الْمُشْرِك۪ينَ مَا تَدْعُوهُمْ اِلَيْهِۜ اَللّٰهُ يَجْتَب۪ٓي اِلَيْهِ مَنْ يَشَٓاءُ وَيَهْد۪ٓي اِلَيْهِ مَنْ يُن۪يبُ SharaAAa lakum mina addeeni mawassa bihi noohan wallathee awhaynailayka wama wassayna bihi ibraheemawamoosa waAAeesa an aqeemoo addeena walatatafarraqoo feehi kabura AAala almushrikeena matadAAoohum ilayhi Allahu yajtabee ilayhi man yashaowayahdee ilayhi man yuneeb He ordained for you of doctrine what He enjoined upon Noah, and that We have revealed to thee, and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus: “Uphold the doctrine, and be not divided therein.” Difficult for the idolaters is that to which thou invitest them.
