ثُمَّ اَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ الْغَمِّ اَمَنَةً نُعَاساً يَغْشٰى طَٓائِفَةً مِنْكُمْۙ وَطَٓائِفَةٌ قَدْ اَهَمَّتْهُمْ اَنْفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِاللّٰهِ غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ ظَنَّ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِۜ يَقُولُونَ هَلْ لَنَا مِنَ الْاَمْرِ مِنْ شَيْءٍۜ قُلْ اِنَّ الْاَمْرَ كُلَّهُ لِلّٰهِۜ يُخْفُونَ ف۪ٓي اَنْفُسِهِمْ مَا لَا يُبْدُونَ لَكَۜ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ الْاَمْرِ شَيْءٌ مَا قُتِلْنَا هٰهُنَاۜ قُلْ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ ف۪ي بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ الَّذ۪ينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَتْلُ اِلٰى مَضَاجِعِهِمْۚ وَلِيَبْتَلِيَ اللّٰهُ مَا ف۪ي صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا ف۪ي قُلُوبِكُمْۜ وَاللّٰهُ عَل۪يمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ

Thumma anzala AAalaykum min baAAdi alghammiamanatan nuAAasan yaghsha ta-ifatan minkumwata-ifatun qad ahammat-hum anfusuhum yathunnoonabillahi ghayra alhaqqi thannaaljahiliyyati yaqooloona hal lana mina al-amri minshay-in qul inna al-amra kullahu lillahi yukhfoona feeanfusihim ma la yubdoona laka yaqooloona law kanalana mina al-amri shay-on ma qutilna hahunaqul law kuntum fee buyootikum labaraza allatheena kutibaAAalayhimu alqatlu ila madajiAAihim waliyabtaliyaAllahu ma fee sudoorikum waliyumahhisama fee quloobikum wallahu AAaleemun bithatiassudoor

Then He sent down upon you, after distress, security, slumber overcoming a number of you; and a number had grieved themselves thinking about God other than the truth — the thought of ignorance — saying: “Have we any part in the affair?” Say thou: “The affair belongs entirely to God.” They hide within themselves what they reveal not to thee, saying: “Had we any part in the affair, we would not have been slain here.” Say thou: “Had you been in your houses, those for whom killing was decreed would have gone forth to their resting places”; and: “That God might try what is in your breasts”; and: “That He might refine what is in your hearts.” And God knows what is in the breasts.

وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللّٰهِ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَتُهُ لَهَمَّتْ طَٓائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ اَنْ يُضِلُّوكَۜ وَمَا يُضِلُّونَ اِلَّٓا اَنْفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَضُرُّونَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍۜ وَاَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَعَلَّمَكَ مَا لَمْ تَكُنْ تَعْلَمُۜ وَكَانَ فَضْلُ اللّٰهِ عَلَيْكَ عَظ۪يماً

Walawla fadlu AllahiAAalayka warahmatuhu lahammat ta-ifatun minhum anyudillooka wama yudilloona illaanfusahum wama yadurroonaka min shay-in waanzalaAllahu AAalayka alkitaba walhikmatawaAAallamaka ma lam takun taAAlamu wakana fadluAllahi AAalayka AAatheema

And were it not for the bounty of God and His mercy upon thee, a number of them had purposed to lead thee astray; and they lead astray only themselves, and they harm thee not at all. And God sent down upon thee the Writ and wisdom; and He has taught thee what thou knewest not. And the bounty of God towards thee is tremendous.

### 5. Surah Al-Ma'idah, Verse 11

يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَتَ اللّٰهِ عَلَيْكُمْ اِذْ هَمَّ قَوْمٌ اَنْ يَبْسُطُٓوا اِلَيْكُمْ اَيْدِيَهُمْ فَكَفَّ اَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَۜ وَعَلَى اللّٰهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ۟

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooothkuroo niAAmata Allahi AAalaykum ith hammaqawmun an yabsutoo ilaykum aydiyahum fakaffa aydiyahumAAankum wattaqoo Allaha waAAala Allahifalyatawakkali almu/minoon

O you who heed warning: remember the favour of God upon you when a people purposed to stretch out their hands against you, and He restrained their hands from you; and be in prudent fear of God; and in God then let the believers place their trust.

### 9. Surah At-Tawbah, Verse 13

اَلَا تُقَاتِلُونَ قَوْماً نَكَثُٓوا اَيْمَانَهُمْ وَهَمُّوا بِاِخْرَاجِ الرَّسُولِ وَهُمْ بَدَؤُ۫كُمْ اَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍۜ اَتَخْشَوْنَهُمْۚ فَاللّٰهُ اَحَقُّ اَنْ تَخْشَوْهُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِن۪ينَ

Ala tuqatiloona qawmannakathoo aymanahum wahammoo bi-ikhraji arrasooliwahum badaookum awwala marratin atakhshawnahum fallahuahaqqu an takhshawhu in kuntum mu/mineen

Will you not fight a people who broke their oaths, and purposed to turn the Messenger out, and began against you the first time? Do you fear them? Then God is worthier that you should fear Him, if you be believers.

### 9. Surah At-Tawbah, Verse 74

يَحْلِفُونَ بِاللّٰهِ مَا قَالُواۜ وَلَقَدْ قَالُوا كَلِمَةَ الْكُفْرِ وَكَفَرُوا بَعْدَ اِسْلَامِهِمْ وَهَمُّوا بِمَا لَمْ يَنَالُواۚ وَمَا نَقَمُٓوا اِلَّٓا اَنْ اَغْنٰيهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَرَسُولُهُ مِنْ فَضْلِه۪ۚ فَاِنْ يَتُوبُوا يَكُ خَيْراً لَهُمْۚ وَاِنْ يَتَوَلَّوْا يُعَذِّبْهُمُ اللّٰهُ عَذَاباً اَل۪يماً فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةِۚ وَمَا لَهُمْ فِي الْاَرْضِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلَا نَص۪يرٍ

Yahlifoona billahi maqaloo walaqad qaloo kalimata alkufri wakafaroobaAAda islamihim wahammoo bima lam yanaloowama naqamoo illa an aghnahumu Allahuwarasooluhu min fadlihi fa-in yatooboo yaku khayran lahumwa-in yatawallaw yuAAaththibhumu Allahu AAathabanaleeman fee addunya wal-akhiratiwama lahum fee al-ardi min waliyyin wala naseer

They swear by God that they did not say — when they did say — the word of denial, and denied after their submission. And they purposed what they have not reached; and they resented only that God and His messenger enriched them of His bounty. Then if they repent, it will be better for them; and if they turn away, God will punish them with a painful punishment in the World and the Hereafter; and they will not have in the earth any ally or helper.

### 12. Surah Yusuf, Verse 24

Walaqad hammat bihi wahamma biha lawlaan raa burhana rabbihi kathalika linasrifaAAanhu assoo-a walfahshaa innahumin AAibadina almukhlaseen

And she desired him; and he desired her[...] were it not that he saw the evidence of his Lord. Thus — that We might turn away from him evil and sexual immorality; he was among Our sincere servants.

### 40. Surah Ghafir, Verse 5

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَالْاَحْزَابُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْۖ وَهَمَّتْ كُلُّ اُمَّةٍ بِرَسُولِهِمْ لِيَأْخُذُوهُ وَجَادَلُوا بِالْبَاطِلِ لِيُدْحِضُوا بِهِ الْحَقَّ فَاَخَذْتُهُمْ۠ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohinwal-ahzabu min baAAdihim wahammat kulluommatin birasoolihim liya/khuthoohu wajadaloo bilbatililiyudhidoo bihi alhaqqa faakhathtuhumfakayfa kana AAiqab

There denied before them the people of Noah, and the parties after them; and every community purposed against their messenger to seize him, and disputed with falsehood to refute thereby the truth. Then I seized them — and how was My retribution!
