Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooanfiqoo min tayyibati ma kasabtum wamimmaakhrajna lakum mina al-ardi wala tayammamooalkhabeetha minhu tunfiqoona walastum bi-akhitheehiilla an tughmidoo feehi waAAlamoo anna Allahaghaniyyun hameed

O you who heed warning: spend of the good things you have earned, and of what We have brought forth for you from the earth. And resort not to the bad thereof, to spend thereof, when you would not take it save you closed an eye to it; and know that God is free from need and praiseworthy.

Lilfuqara-i allatheena ohsiroofee sabeeli Allahi la yastateeAAoona darbanfee al-ardi yahsabuhumu aljahilu aghniyaamina attaAAaffufi taAArifuhum biseemahum layas-aloona annasa ilhafan wamatunfiqoo min khayrin fa-inna Allaha bihi AAaleem

On the poor who are straitened in the cause of God, unable to make a way in the earth: the ignorant considers them free from need due to their reticence. Thou wilt know them by their mark: they do not ask of men importunately. And what you spend of good, God knows it.

Feehi ayatun bayyinatunmaqamu ibraheema waman dakhalahu kana aminanwalillahi AAala annasi hijjualbayti mani istataAAa ilayhi sabeelan waman kafarafa-inna Allaha ghaniyyun AAani alAAalameen

In it are clear proofs of the station of Abraham; and whoso enters it is safe. And God’s claim upon mankind is a pilgrimage to the house, for whoso is able to find a path to it; and whoso denies: God is free from need of all mankind.)

Those who ignore warning: neither their wealth nor their children will avail them anything against God. And those are the companions of the Fire; therein they abide eternally.

Laqad samiAAa Allahu qawla allatheenaqaloo inna Allaha faqeerun wanahnu aghniyaonsanaktubu ma qaloo waqatlahumu al-anbiyaabighayri haqqin wanaqoolu thooqoo AAathabaalhareeq

God has heard the saying of those who say: “God is poor, and we are rich.” We will record what they say, and their killing of the prophets without cause; (and We will say: “Taste the punishment of the consuming fire

وَابْتَلُوا الْيَتَامٰى حَتّٰٓى اِذَا بَلَغُوا النِّكَاحَۚ فَاِنْ اٰنَسْتُمْ مِنْهُمْ رُشْداً فَادْفَعُٓوا اِلَيْهِمْ اَمْوَالَهُمْۚ وَلَا تَأْكُلُوهَٓا اِسْرَافاً وَبِدَاراً اَنْ يَكْـبَرُواۜ وَمَنْ كَانَ غَنِياًّ فَلْيَسْتَعْفِفْۚ وَمَنْ كَانَ فَق۪يراً فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِۜ فَاِذَا دَفَعْتُمْ اِلَيْهِمْ اَمْوَالَهُمْ فَاَشْهِدُوا عَلَيْهِمْۜ وَكَفٰى بِاللّٰهِ حَس۪يباً

Wabtaloo alyatama hattaitha balaghoo annikaha fa-in anastumminhum rushdan fadfaAAoo ilayhim amwalahum walata/kulooha israfan wabidaran an yakbaroowaman kana ghaniyyan falyastaAAfif waman kanafaqeeran falya/kul bilmaAAroofi fa-itha dafaAAtumilayhim amwalahum faashhidoo AAalayhim wakafa billahihaseeba

And test the fatherless when they have reached marriage: if you find them to be of sound judgment, deliver to them their property; and consume it not wastefully and hastily before they be grown. And he that is free from need, let him abstain; and he that is poor, let him take according to what is fitting. And when you deliver to them their property, take witnesses over them. And sufficient is God as reckoner.

But if they part, God will enrich each out of His abundance; and God is encompassing and wise.

Walillahi ma fee assamawatiwama fee al-ardi walaqad wassaynaallatheena ootoo alkitaba min qablikum wa-iyyakumani ittaqoo Allaha wa-in takfuroo fa-inna lillahi mafee assamawati wama fee al-ardiwakana Allahu ghaniyyan hameeda

And to God belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth; and We have enjoined those given the Writ before you, and you yourselves, that you be in prudent fear of God. And if you deny, then to God belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth; and God is free from need and praiseworthy.

يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا كُونُوا قَوَّام۪ينَ بِالْقِسْطِ شُهَدَٓاءَ لِلّٰهِ وَلَوْ عَلٰٓى اَنْفُسِكُمْ اَوِ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْاَقْرَب۪ينَۚ اِنْ يَكُنْ غَنِياًّ اَوْ فَق۪يراً فَاللّٰهُ اَوْلٰى بِهِمَا فَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا الْهَوٰٓى اَنْ تَعْدِلُواۚ وَاِنْ تَلْـوُٓ۫ا اَوْ تُعْرِضُوا فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَب۪يراً

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanookoonoo qawwameena bilqisti shuhadaalillahi walaw AAala anfusikum awi alwalidayniwal-aqrabeena in yakun ghaniyyan aw faqeeran fallahuawla bihima fala tattabiAAoo alhawaan taAAdiloo wa-in talwoo aw tuAAridoo fa-inna Allahakana bima taAAmaloona khabeera

O you who heed warning: stand firm with equity, witnesses to God, though it be against yourselves, or parents, or relatives; whether he be rich or poor, God is closer to both. So follow not vain desire lest you be unjust; and if you distort or evade, God is aware of what you do.

وَرَبُّكَ الْغَنِيُّ ذُوالرَّحْمَةِۜ اِنْ يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفْ مِنْ بَعْدِكُمْ مَا يَشَٓاءُ كَمَٓا اَنْشَاَكُمْ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّةِ قَوْمٍ اٰخَر۪ينَۜ

Warabbuka alghaniyyu thoo arrahmatiin yasha/ yuthhibkum wayastakhlif min baAAdikum mayashao kama anshaakum min thurriyyati qawminakhareen

And thy Lord is the Free from Need, the Possessor of Mercy. If He wills, He will remove you and appoint to succeed after you whom He wills, as He produced you from the progeny of other people.

Wanada as-habual-aAArafi rijalan yaAArifoonahum biseemahumqaloo ma aghna AAankum jamAAukum wamakuntum tastakbiroon

And the companions of the elevations will call to men, recognising them by their mark, saying: “What did it avail you, your accumulating, and that you waxed proud?

Those who denied Shuʿayb, as though they had never lived therein; those who denied Shuʿayb, it was they who were the losers.

In tastaftihoo faqad jaakumualfathu wa-in tantahoo fahuwa khayrun lakum wa-intaAAoodoo naAAud walan tughniya AAankum fi-atukum shay-an walawkathurat waanna Allaha maAAa almu/mineen

(If you seek decision: the decision has come to you; and if you cease, it is better for you. But if you return, We will return, and your company will avail you nothing though it be numerous.) — and that God is with the believers.

لَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ اللّٰهُ ف۪ي مَوَاطِنَ كَث۪يرَةٍۙ وَيَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍۙ اِذْ اَعْجَبَتْكُمْ كَـثْرَتُكُمْ فَلَمْ تُغْنِ عَنْكُمْ شَيْـٔاً وَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْاَرْضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتْ ثُمَّ وَلَّيْتُمْ مُدْبِر۪ينَۚ

Laqad nasarakumu Allahu feemawatina katheeratin wayawma hunaynin ithaAAjabatkum kathratukum falam tughni AAankum shay-an wadaqatAAalaykumu al-ardu bima rahubat thummawallaytum mudbireen

God has helped you in many places — and on the day of Ḥunayn when you were impressed at your multitude, but it availed you nothing, and the earth was straitened for you, vast as it was; then you turned and fled.

يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُٓوا اِنَّمَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ نَجَسٌ فَلَا يَقْرَبُوا الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ بَعْدَ عَامِهِمْ هٰذَاۚ وَاِنْ خِفْتُمْ عَيْلَةً فَسَوْفَ يُغْن۪يكُمُ اللّٰهُ مِنْ فَضْلِه۪ٓ اِنْ شَٓاءَۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَل۪يمٌ حَك۪يمٌ

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooinnama almushrikoona najasun fala yaqrabooalmasjida alharama baAAda AAamihim hathawa-in khiftum AAaylatan fasawfa yughneekumu Allahu min fadlihiin shaa inna Allaha AAaleemun hakeem

O you who heed warning: those who ascribe a partnership are unclean; so approach not the inviolable place of worship after this their year. And if you fear poverty, then will God enrich you out of His bounty, if He wills; God is knowing and wise.

يَحْلِفُونَ بِاللّٰهِ مَا قَالُواۜ وَلَقَدْ قَالُوا كَلِمَةَ الْكُفْرِ وَكَفَرُوا بَعْدَ اِسْلَامِهِمْ وَهَمُّوا بِمَا لَمْ يَنَالُواۚ وَمَا نَقَمُٓوا اِلَّٓا اَنْ اَغْنٰيهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَرَسُولُهُ مِنْ فَضْلِه۪ۚ فَاِنْ يَتُوبُوا يَكُ خَيْراً لَهُمْۚ وَاِنْ يَتَوَلَّوْا يُعَذِّبْهُمُ اللّٰهُ عَذَاباً اَل۪يماً فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةِۚ وَمَا لَهُمْ فِي الْاَرْضِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلَا نَص۪يرٍ

Yahlifoona billahi maqaloo walaqad qaloo kalimata alkufri wakafaroobaAAda islamihim wahammoo bima lam yanaloowama naqamoo illa an aghnahumu Allahuwarasooluhu min fadlihi fa-in yatooboo yaku khayran lahumwa-in yatawallaw yuAAaththibhumu Allahu AAathabanaleeman fee addunya wal-akhiratiwama lahum fee al-ardi min waliyyin wala naseer

They swear by God that they did not say — when they did say — the word of denial, and denied after their submission. And they purposed what they have not reached; and they resented only that God and His messenger enriched them of His bounty. Then if they repent, it will be better for them; and if they turn away, God will punish them with a painful punishment in the World and the Hereafter; and they will not have in the earth any ally or helper.

Innama assabeelu AAalaallatheena yasta/thinoonaka wahum aghniyaoradoo bi-an yakoonoo maAAa alkhawalifi watabaAAaAllahu AAala quloobihim fahum la yaAAlamoon

The path is but against those who ask leave of thee when they are sufficient, content to be with those who remain; and God has sealed their hearts, so they understand not.

اِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَٓاءٍ اَنْزَلْنَاهُ مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ فَاخْتَلَطَ بِه۪ نَبَاتُ الْاَرْضِ مِمَّا يَأْكُلُ النَّاسُ وَالْاَنْعَامُۜ حَتّٰٓى اِذَٓا اَخَذَتِ الْاَرْضُ زُخْرُفَهَا وَازَّيَّـنَتْ وَظَنَّ اَهْلُهَٓا اَنَّهُمْ قَادِرُونَ عَلَيْهَٓاۙ اَتٰيهَٓا اَمْرُنَا لَيْلاً اَوْ نَهَاراً فَجَعَلْنَاهَا حَص۪يداً كَاَنْ لَمْ تَغْنَ بِالْاَمْسِۜ  كَذٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الْاٰيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Innama mathalu alhayatiaddunya kama-in anzalnahu mina assama-ifakhtalata bihi nabatu al-ardi mimmaya/kulu annasu wal-anAAamu hattaitha akhathati al-ardu zukhrufaha wazzayyanatwathanna ahluha annahum qadiroonaAAalayha ataha amruna laylan aw naharanfajaAAalnaha haseedan kaan lam taghnabil-amsi kathalika nufassilu al-ayatiliqawmin yatafakkaroon

The likeness of the life of this world is but like water We send down from the sky, and the plants of the earth mingle with it, whereof men and cattle eat: when the earth has taken her decoration, and is made fair, and its people think they have power over it, Our command comes by night or by day, and We make it reaped as if it had not flourished the day before — thus do We set out and detail the proofs for people who reflect.

They say: “God has taken a son.” Glory be to Him! He is the Free from Need; to Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth! You have no authority for this; do you ascribe to God what you know not?

And he said: “O my sons: enter not by one gate, but enter by different gates. But I cannot avail you anything against God. Judgment is but for God; in Him have I placed my trust. And in Him let trust those who would place their trust aright.”

And when they entered in what manner their father had commanded them, it availed them nothing against God; it was but a need in the soul of Jacob which he satisfied. And he was a man of knowledge due to what We had taught him; but most men know not.

Wabarazoo lillahi jameeAAan faqalaadduAAafao lillatheena istakbarooinna kunna lakum tabaAAan fahal antum mughnoonaAAanna min AAathabi Allahi min shay-in qaloolaw hadana Allahu lahadaynakum sawaonAAalayna ajaziAAna am sabarna malana min mahees

And they will emerge before God all together; and the weak will say to those who had waxed proud: “We were your followers; can you avail us something against the punishment of God?” They will say: “Had God guided us, we would have guided you; it is the same for us whether we be distressed or patient: we have no place of refuge.”

WalyastaAAfifi allatheena layajidoona nikahan hatta yughniyahumu Allahumin fadlihi wallatheena yabtaghoona alkitabamimma malakat aymanukum fakatiboohum inAAalimtum feehim khayran waatoohum min mali Allahiallathee atakum wala tukrihoo fatayatikumAAala albigha-i in aradna tahassunanlitabtaghoo AAarada alhayati addunyawaman yukrihhunna fa-inna Allaha min baAAdi ikrahihinnaghafoorun raheem

And let abstain those who find not marriage until God enriches them out of His bounty. And those who seek the writ from among those your right hands possess: contract with them if you know good to be in them; and give to them out of the wealth God has given you. And compel not your slave-girls to whoredom, if they desire chastity[...] — seeking the enjoyment of the life of this world. And whoso compels them, then God, after their compulsion, is forgiving and merciful.

Qala allathee AAindahu AAilmunmina alkitabi ana ateeka bihi qabla anyartadda ilayka tarfuka falamma raahumustaqirran AAindahu qala hatha min fadlirabbee liyabluwanee aashkuru am akfuru waman shakara fa-innamayashkuru linafsihi waman kafara fa-inna rabbee ghaniyyun kareem

Said one with knowledge of the writ: “I will bring it to thee before thy glance return to thee.” And when he saw it set before him, he said: “This is of the bounty of my Lord, that He might try me, whether I am grateful or ungrateful; and whoso is grateful, he is but grateful for his soul; and whoso is ungrateful, then is my Lord free from need and generous.

In takfuroo fa-inna Allaha ghaniyyunAAankum wala yarda liAAibadihi alkufra wa-intashkuroo yardahu lakum wala taziru waziratunwizra okhra thumma ila rabbikum marjiAAukumfayunabbi-okum bima kuntum taAAmaloona innahu AAaleemun bithatiassudoor

If you deny — God is free from need of you. And He is not pleased, for His servants, with denial. And if you are grateful, He is pleased therewith for you. And no bearer bears the burden of another; then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you of what you did; He knows what is in the breasts.

وَاِذْ يَتَحَٓاجُّونَ فِي النَّارِ فَيَقُولُ الضُّعَفٰٓؤُ۬ا لِلَّذ۪ينَ اسْتَكْـبَرُٓوا اِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمْ تَبَعاً فَهَلْ اَنْتُمْ مُغْنُونَ عَنَّا نَص۪يباً مِنَ النَّارِ

Wa-ith yatahajjoona fee annarifayaqoolu adduAAafao lillatheenaistakbaroo inna kunna lakum tabaAAan fahal antummughnoona AAanna naseeban mina annar

And when they will dispute together in the Fire, the weak will say to those who had waxed proud: “We were your followers; will you avail us something against a portion of the Fire?”

Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the final outcome of those before them? They were more numerous than they, and stronger in power and impact in the earth; but there availed them not what they earned.

Walaqad makkannahum feema inmakkannakum feehi wajaAAalna lahum samAAan waabsaranwaaf-idatan fama aghna AAanhum samAAuhum walaabsaruhum wala af-idatuhum min shay-in ith kanooyajhadoona bi-ayati Allahi wahaqabihim ma kanoo bihi yastahzi-oon

And We had established them in that wherein We have not established you, and We gave them hearing and sight and hearts; but their hearing and sight and hearts availed them nothing when they rejected the proofs of God; and there surrounded them that whereat they mocked.

Ha antum haola-itudAAawna litunfiqoo fee sabeeli Allahi faminkum manyabkhalu waman yabkhal fa-innama yabkhalu AAan nafsihi wallahualghaniyyu waantumu alfuqarao wa-in tatawallaw yastabdilqawman ghayrakum thumma la yakoonoo amthalakum

Here you are, called to spend in the cause of God, then among you is he who is miserly; and whoso is miserly, he is but miserly against his soul. And God is the Free from Need, and you are poor. And if you turn away, He will replace you with a people other than you, then will they not be the likes of you.

Ma afaa Allahu AAalarasoolihi min ahli alqura falillahi walirrasooliwalithee alqurba walyatama walmasakeeniwabni assabeeli kay la yakoona doolatanbayna al-aghniya-i minkum wama atakumuarrasoolu fakhuthoohu wama nahakumAAanhu fantahoo wattaqoo Allaha inna Allahashadeedu alAAiqab

What God gave in spoil to His messenger from the people of the cities belongs to God and His messenger, and to relatives, and the fatherless, and the needy, and the wayfarer[...] that it be not a distribution by turns between the rich among you. And what the Messenger gives you: take it, and from what he forbids you: refrain — and be in prudent fear of God; God is severe in retribution —

### 60. Surah Al-Mumtahanah, Verse 6

There was for you in them a good model for one who hopes for God and the Last Day. And whoso turns away: — God, He is the Free from Need, the Praiseworthy.

Daraba Allahu mathalan lillatheenakafaroo imraata noohin wamraata lootin kanatatahta AAabdayni min AAibadina salihaynifakhanatahuma falam yughniya AAanhumamina Allahi shay-an waqeela odkhula annaramaAAa addakhileen

God has struck a similitude for those who ignore warning: — the wife of Noah, and the wife of Lot: they were under two of Our righteous servants, but they betrayed them; and they availed them nothing against God, and it was said: “Enter, you twain, the Fire with those who enter.”
