And when they emerged against Goliath and his forces, they said: “Our Lord: pour Thou out patience upon us, and make Thou firm our feet; and help Thou us against the people of the false claimers of guidance.”

ثُمَّ اَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ الْغَمِّ اَمَنَةً نُعَاساً يَغْشٰى طَٓائِفَةً مِنْكُمْۙ وَطَٓائِفَةٌ قَدْ اَهَمَّتْهُمْ اَنْفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِاللّٰهِ غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ ظَنَّ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِۜ يَقُولُونَ هَلْ لَنَا مِنَ الْاَمْرِ مِنْ شَيْءٍۜ قُلْ اِنَّ الْاَمْرَ كُلَّهُ لِلّٰهِۜ يُخْفُونَ ف۪ٓي اَنْفُسِهِمْ مَا لَا يُبْدُونَ لَكَۜ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ الْاَمْرِ شَيْءٌ مَا قُتِلْنَا هٰهُنَاۜ قُلْ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ ف۪ي بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ الَّذ۪ينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَتْلُ اِلٰى مَضَاجِعِهِمْۚ وَلِيَبْتَلِيَ اللّٰهُ مَا ف۪ي صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا ف۪ي قُلُوبِكُمْۜ وَاللّٰهُ عَل۪يمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ

Thumma anzala AAalaykum min baAAdi alghammiamanatan nuAAasan yaghsha ta-ifatan minkumwata-ifatun qad ahammat-hum anfusuhum yathunnoonabillahi ghayra alhaqqi thannaaljahiliyyati yaqooloona hal lana mina al-amri minshay-in qul inna al-amra kullahu lillahi yukhfoona feeanfusihim ma la yubdoona laka yaqooloona law kanalana mina al-amri shay-on ma qutilna hahunaqul law kuntum fee buyootikum labaraza allatheena kutibaAAalayhimu alqatlu ila madajiAAihim waliyabtaliyaAllahu ma fee sudoorikum waliyumahhisama fee quloobikum wallahu AAaleemun bithatiassudoor

Then He sent down upon you, after distress, security, slumber overcoming a number of you; and a number had grieved themselves thinking about God other than the truth — the thought of ignorance — saying: “Have we any part in the affair?” Say thou: “The affair belongs entirely to God.” They hide within themselves what they reveal not to thee, saying: “Had we any part in the affair, we would not have been slain here.” Say thou: “Had you been in your houses, those for whom killing was decreed would have gone forth to their resting places”; and: “That God might try what is in your breasts”; and: “That He might refine what is in your hearts.” And God knows what is in the breasts.

### 4. Surah An-Nisa, Verse 81

وَيَقُولُونَ طَاعَةٌۘ فَاِذَا بَرَزُوا مِنْ عِنْدِكَ بَيَّتَ طَٓائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ غَيْرَ الَّذ۪ي تَقُولُۜ وَاللّٰهُ يَكْتُبُ مَا يُبَيِّتُونَۚ فَاَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللّٰهِۜ وَكَفٰى بِاللّٰهِ وَك۪يلاً

Wayaqooloona taAAatun fa-ithabarazoo min AAindika bayyata ta-ifatun minhum ghayra allatheetaqoolu wallahu yaktubu ma yubayyitoonafaaAArid AAanhum watawakkal AAala Allahiwakafa billahi wakeela

And they talk obedience; but when they emerge from thy presence, a number among them plans by night other than what thou sayest. And God records what they plan by night; so turn thou away from them, and place thou thy trust in God; and God is sufficient as disposer of affairs.

### 14. Surah Ibrahim, Verse 21

وَبَرَزُوا لِلّٰهِ جَم۪يعاً فَقَالَ الضُّعَفٰٓؤُ۬ا لِلَّذ۪ينَ اسْتَكْـبَرُٓوا اِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمْ تَبَعاً فَهَلْ اَنْتُمْ مُغْنُونَ عَنَّا مِنْ عَذَابِ اللّٰهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍۜ قَالُوا لَوْ هَدٰينَا اللّٰهُ لَهَدَيْنَاكُمْۜ سَوَٓاءٌ عَلَيْنَٓا اَجَزِعْنَٓا اَمْ صَبَرْنَا مَا لَنَا مِنْ مَح۪يصٍ۟

Wabarazoo lillahi jameeAAan faqalaadduAAafao lillatheena istakbarooinna kunna lakum tabaAAan fahal antum mughnoonaAAanna min AAathabi Allahi min shay-in qaloolaw hadana Allahu lahadaynakum sawaonAAalayna ajaziAAna am sabarna malana min mahees

And they will emerge before God all together; and the weak will say to those who had waxed proud: “We were your followers; can you avail us something against the punishment of God?” They will say: “Had God guided us, we would have guided you; it is the same for us whether we be distressed or patient: we have no place of refuge.”

### 14. Surah Ibrahim, Verse 48

The day the earth will be changed to another earth, and the heavens, they will emerge before God, the One, the Vanquishing.

### 26. Surah Ash-Shu'ara, Verse 91

The day they emerge nothing of them will be hidden from God: “Whose is the dominion this day?” — “It belongs to God, the One, the Vanquishing:

### 79. Surah An-Nazi'at, Verse 36
