And consume not your wealth among yourselves in vanity, neither offer it to the authorities that you might consume part of the property of the people through sin, when you know.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tubtiloo sadaqatikum bilmanniwal-atha kallathee yunfiqu malahuri-aa annasi wala yu/minu billahiwalyawmi al-akhiri famathaluhu kamathali safwaninAAalayhi turabun faasabahu wabilunfatarakahu saldan la yaqdiroona AAalashay-in mimma kasaboo wallahu layahdee alqawma alkafireen

O you who heed warning: make not your charity vain through condescension and hindrance, like one who spends his wealth to be seen of men and believes not in God and the Last Day. And his likeness is as the likeness of a rock whereon is dust: a downpour fell upon it leaving it bare; they possess nothing from what they have earned; and God guides not the people of the false claimers of guidance.

Allatheena yathkuroona Allahaqiyaman waquAAoodan waAAala junoobihimwayatafakkaroona fee khalqi assamawati wal-ardirabbana ma khalaqta hatha batilan subhanakafaqina AAathaba annar

Those who remember God, standing and sitting and on their sides, and reflect upon the creation of the heavens and the earth: “Our Lord: Thou createdst not this to no purpose. Glory be to Thee! And protect Thou us from the punishment of the Fire!

O you who heed warning: consume not your wealth among yourselves in vanity, or save by way of trade by mutual consent among you; and kill not yourselves; God is merciful to you;

“Or you say: ‘Our fathers but ascribed a partnership before, and we were progeny after them; wilt Thou then destroy us for what the creators of vanity did?’”

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooinna katheeran mina al-ahbari warruhbanilaya/kuloona amwala annasi bilbatiliwayasuddoona AAan sabeeli Allahi wallatheenayaknizoona aththahaba walfiddatawala yunfiqoonaha fee sabeeli Allahifabashshirhum biAAathabin aleem

O you who heed warning: many among the rabbis and the religious scholars consume the wealth of men in vanity, and turn away from the path of God. And those who amass gold and silver and spend it not in the cause of God: give thou them tidings of a painful punishment: —

### 10. Surah Yunus, Verse 81

And when they had cast, Moses said: “What you have brought is sorcery; God will make it vain; God makes not right the work of the workers of corruption.

Those are they for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter save the Fire; and vain is what they wrought therein, and vanity is what they did.

اَنْزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ مَٓاءً فَسَالَتْ اَوْدِيَةٌ بِقَدَرِهَا فَاحْتَمَلَ السَّيْلُ زَبَداً رَابِياًۜ وَمِمَّا يُوقِدُونَ عَلَيْهِ فِي النَّارِ ابْتِغَٓاءَ حِلْيَةٍ اَوْ مَتَاعٍ زَبَدٌ مِثْلُهُۜ  كَذٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللّٰهُ الْحَقَّ وَالْبَاطِلَۜ فَاَمَّا الزَّبَدُ فَيَذْهَبُ جُفَٓاءًۚ وَاَمَّا مَا يَنْفَعُ النَّاسَ فَيَمْكُثُ فِي الْاَرْضِۜ كَذٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللّٰهُ الْاَمْثَالَۜ

Anzala mina assama-i maanfasalat awdiyatun biqadariha fahtamalaassaylu zabadan rabiyan wamimma yooqidoonaAAalayhi fee annari ibtighaa hilyatinaw mataAAin zabadun mithluhu kathalika yadribuAllahu alhaqqa walbatila faammaazzabadu fayathhabu jufaan waamma mayanfaAAu annasa fayamkuthu fee al-ardi kathalikayadribu Allahu al-amthal

He sends down from the sky water, and the valleys flow according to their measure, then the flood carries a swelling froth; and from what they burn in the fire seeking ornaments or tools there is a froth like it. Thus does God present truth and vanity: as for the froth, it departs as dross; and as for what is of benefit to men, it remains in the earth. Thus does God strike similitudes.

Wallahu jaAAala lakum minanfusikum azwajan wajaAAala lakum min azwajikumbaneena wahafadatan warazaqakum mina attayyibatiafabilbatili yu/minoona wabiniAAmati Allahihum yakfuroon

And God has appointed for you from yourselves wives, and has appointed for you from your wives sons and grandsons, and has provided you of good things. Is it then in vanity that they believe, and the favour of God they deny

Wama nursilu almursaleena illamubashshireena wamunthireena wayujadilu allatheenakafaroo bilbatili liyudhidoo bihi alhaqqawattakhathoo ayatee wama onthiroohuzuwa

And We send the emissaries only as bearers of glad tidings and warners. And those who ignore warning contend in vanity to refute the truth thereby, and have taken My proofs and that whereof they are warned in mockery.

Bal naqthifu bilhaqqiAAala albatili fayadmaghuhu fa-itha huwa zahiqunwalakumu alwaylu mimma tasifoon

But We hurl the truth against vanity and it triumphs over it, and then it passes away. And woe to you for what you describe!

For it is that God, He is the Truth; and that that to which they call besides Him, it is vanity; and that God, He is the Exalted, the Great!

Qul kafa billahibaynee wabaynakum shaheedan yaAAlamu ma fee assamawatiwal-ardi wallatheena amanoobilbatili wakafaroo billahi ola-ikahumu alkhasiroon

Say thou: “God is sufficient between me and you as witness.” He knows what is in the heavens and the earth; and those who believe in vanity and deny God, it is they who are the losers.

Have they not considered that We appointed a sanctuary secure, while men were swept away round about them? Do they then believe in vanity, and deny the favour of God?

وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ ف۪ي هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍۜ وَلَئِنْ جِئْتَهُمْ بِاٰيَةٍ لَيَقُولَنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُٓوا اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا مُبْطِلُونَ

Walaqad darabna linnasifee hatha alqur-ani min kulli mathalin wala-inji/tahum bi-ayatin layaqoolanna allatheena kafarooin antum illa mubtiloon

And We have struck for men in this Qur’an every similitude. And if thou come to them with a proof, those who ignore warning will say: “You are only creators of vanity.”

### 31. Surah Luqman, Verse 30

Thalika bi-anna Allaha huwa alhaqquwaanna ma yadAAoona min doonihi albatilu waanna Allahahuwa alAAaliyyu alkabeer

For it is that God, He is the Truth, and that that to which they call besides Him is vanity, and that God, He is the Exalted, the Great!

### 34. Surah Saba, Verse 49

### 38. Surah Sad, Verse 27

Wama khalaqna assamaawal-arda wama baynahuma batilanthalika thannu allatheena kafaroofawaylun lillatheena kafaroo mina annar

And We created not the heaven and the earth and what is between them to no purpose. That is the assumption of those who ignore warning. And woe to those who ignore warning from the Fire!

### 40. Surah Ghafir, Verse 5

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohinwal-ahzabu min baAAdihim wahammat kulluommatin birasoolihim liya/khuthoohu wajadaloo bilbatililiyudhidoo bihi alhaqqa faakhathtuhumfakayfa kana AAiqab

There denied before them the people of Noah, and the parties after them; and every community purposed against their messenger to seize him, and disputed with falsehood to refute thereby the truth. Then I seized them — and how was My retribution!

Walaqad arsalna rusulan min qablikaminhum man qasasna AAalayka waminhum man lamnaqsus AAalayka wama kana lirasoolinan ya/tiya bi-ayatin illa bi-ithni Allahifa-itha jaa amru Allahi qudiya bilhaqqiwakhasira hunalika almubtiloon

And We have sent messengers before thee; among them are those We have related to thee, and among them are those We have not related to thee. And it was not for a messenger to bring a proof save by the leave of God. And when the command of God comes the matter will be decided in justice, and thereupon will the creators of vanity be lost.

### 41. Surah Fussilat, Verse 42

— Falsehood cannot reach it from before it or from after it — a revelation from One wise and praiseworthy.

### 42. Surah Ash-Shuraa, Verse 24

Am yaqooloona iftara AAala Allahikathiban fa-in yasha-i Allahu yakhtim AAalaqalbika wayamhu Allahu albatila wayuhiqqualhaqqa bikalimatihi innahu AAaleemun bithatiassudoor

If they say: “He has invented a lie about God,” — but if God wills, He will seal thy heart; and God eliminates vanity and establishes truth by His words; He knows what is in the breasts.

### 45. Surah Al-Jathiyah, Verse 27

And to God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And the day the Hour strikes, that day the creators of vanity will lose.

### 47. Surah Muhammad, Verse 3

Thalika bi-anna allatheenakafaroo ittabaAAoo albatila waanna allatheena amanooittabaAAoo alhaqqa min rabbihim kathalika yadribuAllahu linnasi amthalahum

For it is that those who ignore warning follow falsehood, and that those who heed warning follow the truth from their Lord! Thus does God strike for men their similitudes.

### 47. Surah Muhammad, Verse 33
