Bi/sama ishtaraw bihi anfusahum anyakfuroo bima anzala Allahu baghyan an yunazzilaAllahu min fadlihi AAala man yashaomin AAibadihi fabaoo bighadabin AAalaghadabin walilkafireena AAathabun muheen

Evil is that for which they sold themselves, denying what God sent down, through sectarian zealotry, that God should send down of His bounty upon whom He wills of His servants. So they incurred wrath upon wrath; and for the false claimers of guidance is a humiliating punishment.

Wa-ith akhathna meethaqakumwarafaAAna fawqakumu attoora khuthooma ataynakum biquwwatin wasmaAAoo qaloosamiAAna waAAasayna waoshriboo feequloobihimu alAAijla bikufrihim qul bi/sama ya/murukumbihi eemanukum in kuntum mu/mineen

And when We took your agreement and raised the mount above you: “Hold fast what We give you, and listen,” they said: “We hear and we oppose”; and they were filled with drinking the calf in their hearts for their denial. Say thou: “Evil is what your faith enjoins upon you, if you be believers.”

وَاتَّـبَعُوا مَا تَتْلُوا الشَّيَاط۪ينُ عَلٰى مُلْكِ سُلَيْمٰنَۚ وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمٰنُ وَلٰكِنَّ الشَّيَاط۪ينَ كَفَرُوا يُعَلِّمُونَ النَّاسَ السِّحْرَۗ وَمَٓا اُنْزِلَ عَلَى الْمَلَكَيْنِ بِبَابِلَ هَارُوتَ وَمَارُوتَۜ وَمَا يُعَلِّمَانِ مِنْ اَحَدٍ حَتّٰى يَقُولَٓا اِنَّمَا نَحْنُ فِتْنَةٌ فَلَا تَكْفُرْۜ فَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ مِنْهُمَا مَا يُفَرِّقُونَ بِه۪ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَزَوْجِه۪ۜ وَمَا هُمْ بِضَٓارّ۪ينَ بِه۪ مِنْ اَحَدٍ اِلَّا بِاِذْنِ اللّٰهِۜ وَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ مَا يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلَا يَنْفَعُهُمْۜ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمُوا لَمَنِ اشْتَرٰيهُ مَا لَهُ فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلَاقٍ۠ وَلَبِئْسَ مَا شَرَوْا بِه۪ٓ اَنْفُسَهُمْۜ  لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ

WattabaAAoo ma tatloo ashshayateenuAAala mulki sulaymana wama kafara sulaymanuwalakinna ashshayateena kafarooyuAAallimoona annasa assihra wamaonzila AAala almalakayni bibabila harootawamaroota wama yuAAallimani min ahadinhatta yaqoola innama nahnufitnatun fala takfur fayataAAallamoona minhuma mayufarriqoona bihi bayna almar-i wazawjihi wama hum bidarreenabihi min ahadin illa bi-ithni AllahiwayataAAallamoona ma yadurruhum walayanfaAAuhum walaqad AAalimoo lamani ishtarahu malahu fee al-akhirati min khalaqin walabi/sa masharaw bihi anfusahum law kanoo yaAAlamoon

And they followed what the satans recited during the reign of Solomon; and Solomon denied not; but the satans denied, teaching men sorcery, and what was sent down upon the two angels at Babylon, Hārūt and Mārūt. And they taught no one until they had said: “We are but a means of denial, so deny thou not.” Then from them they learn that by which they cause division between a man and his wife; but they harm no one thereby save by the leave of God. And they learn what harms them, and profits them not, knowing well that whoso buys it has in the Hereafter no share; and evil is that for which they sold their souls, had they but known.

Wa-ith qala ibraheemurabbi ijAAal hatha baladan aminan warzuqahlahu mina aththamarati man amana minhumbillahi walyawmi al-akhiri qalawaman kafara faomattiAAuhu qaleelan thumma adtarruhu ilaAAathabi annari wabi/sa almaseer

And when Abraham said: “My Lord, make Thou this a secure land, and provide Thou its people with fruits, whoso among them believes in God and the Last Day,” He said: “And whoso denies, him will I let enjoy a little, then will I drive him to the punishment of the Fire; and evil is the journey’s end.”

Laysa albirra an tuwalloo wujoohakum qibalaalmashriqi walmaghribi walakinna albirra man amanabillahi walyawmi al-akhiri walmala-ikatiwalkitabi wannabiyyeena waataalmala AAala hubbihi thawee alqurbawalyatama walmasakeena wabnaalssabeeli wassa-ileena wafee arriqabiwaaqama assalata waataazzakata walmoofoona biAAahdihim ithaAAahadoo wassabireena fee alba/sa-iwaddarra-i waheena alba/si ola-ikaallatheena sadaqoo waola-ika humualmuttaqoon

It is not virtue that you turn your faces towards the East and the West. But virtue is: one who believes in God, and the Last Day, and the angels, and the Writ, and the prophets, and gives wealth in spite of love of it to relatives, and the fatherless, and the needy, and the wayfarer, and those who ask, and to manumit slaves; and who upholds the duty, and renders the purity; and those who keep their covenant when they make a covenant; and the patient in affliction and adversity, and during conflict: those are they who are sincere; and it is they who are those of prudent fear.

Am hasibtum an tadkhuloo aljannatawalamma ya/tikum mathalu allatheena khalaw minqablikum massat-humu alba/sao waddarraowazulziloo hatta yaqoola arrasoolu wallatheenaamanoo maAAahu mata nasru Allahi alainna nasra Allahi qareeb

If you think that you will enter the Garden when there has not come to you the like of those who passed away before you: affliction and adversity touched them, and they were shaken until the Messenger and those who heeded warning with him said: “When is the help of God?” In truth, the help of God is near.

Sanulqee fee quloobi allatheenakafaroo arruAAba bima ashrakoo billahima lam yunazzil bihi sultanan wama/wahumu annaruwabi/sa mathwa aththalimeen

We will cast into the hearts of those who ignore warning terror because they have ascribed a partnership with God to that for which He sent not down authority; and their shelter is the Fire; and evil is the dwelling of the wrongdoers.

Is then he who seeks the approval of God like one who incurs wrath from God, and whose shelter is Gehenna? And evil is the journey’s end.

Wa-ith akhatha Allahumeethaqa allatheena ootoo alkitabalatubayyinunnahu linnasi wala taktumoonahufanabathoohu waraa thuhoorihim washtarawbihi thamanan qaleelan fabi/sa ma yashtaroon

And when God took an agreement of those given the Writ: “You are to make it plain to mankind, and not to conceal it,” then they cast it behind their backs, and sold it at a cheap price; and evil is what they bought.

So fight thou in the cause of God; thou art not charged save with thyself. And rouse thou the believers: it may be that God will restrain the might of those who ignore warning; and God is stronger in might, and stronger in exemplary punishment.

Oh, that the rabbis and the religious scholars had but forbidden their speaking sin and their consumption of illicit gain! Evil is what they were working.

Thou seest many of them taking allies of those who ignore warning; evil is what their souls have sent ahead for them, that God is wroth with them; and in the punishment will they abide eternally.

Those who ascribe a partnership will say: “Had God willed, we would not have ascribed a partnership, nor would our fathers, nor would we have made anything unlawful.” Thus did those who were before them deny until they tasted Our might. Say thou: “Have you any knowledge to bring forth for us? You follow only assumption, and are only guessing.”

Walamma rajaAAa moosa ilaqawmihi ghadbana asifan qala bi/samakhalaftumoonee min baAAdee aAAajiltum amra rabbikum waalqa al-alwahawaakhatha bira/si akheehi yajurruhu ilayhi qalaibna omma inna alqawma istadAAafoonee wakadooyaqtuloonanee fala tushmit biya al-aAAdaa walatajAAalnee maAAa alqawmi aththalimeen

And when Moses returned to his people, wrathful and grieved, he said: “Evil is what you took up while I was away; were you impatient over the command of your Lord?” And he cast down the tablets, and seized his brother by the head, dragging him to him. Said he: “Son of my mother: the people despised me and were about to kill me. Then cause thou not the enemies to gloat over me, nor place thou me with the wrongdoing people.”

For those who respond to their Lord is the best; and those who respond not to Him: had they all that is in the earth altogether, and the like thereof with it, they would seek to ransom themselves thereby. Those have an evil reckoning, and their shelter is Gehenna; and evil is the resting-place.

Wallahu jaAAala lakum mimmakhalaqa thilalan wajaAAala lakum mina aljibaliaknanan wajaAAala lakum sarabeela taqeekumu alharrawasarabeela taqeekum ba/sakum kathalika yutimmuniAAmatahu AAalaykum laAAallakum tuslimoon

And God appointed for you of what He has created shades, and made for you of the mountains places of refuge, and made for you garments to protect you from the heat, and garments to protect you from your might. Thus does He complete His favour upon you, that you might submit.

Waquli alhaqqu min rabbikum faman shaafalyu/min waman shaa falyakfur inna aAAtadnaliththalimeena naran ahatabihim suradiquha wa-in yastagheethoo yughathoobima-in kalmuhli yashwee alwujooha bi/sa ashsharabuwasaat murtafaqa

And say thou: “The truth is from your Lord; then whoso wills, let him believe; and whoso wills, let him deny.” We have prepared for the wrongdoers a Fire, its walls encompassing them; and if they seek succour, they will be given succour by water like molten brass burning the faces — evil the drink, and evil the resting-place.

Wa-ith qulna lilmala-ikatiosjudoo li-adama fasajadoo illa ibleesa kanamina aljinni fafasaqa AAan amri rabbihi afatattakhithoonahuwathurriyyatahu awliyaa min doonee wahum lakumAAaduwwun bi/sa liththalimeena badala

And when We said to the angels: “Submit to Adam,” then they submitted. Not so Iblīs; he was of the domini and was perfidious towards the command of his Lord; take you him and his progeny as allies instead of Me? And they are an enemy to you; evil an exchange for the wrongdoers!

“That they might witness benefits for them, and remember the name of God on days appointed over their provision of livestock cattle.” So eat thereof, and feed the unfortunate poor;

Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatunabayyinatin taAArifu fee wujoohi allatheena kafarooalmunkara yakadoona yastoona billatheenayatloona AAalayhim ayatina qulafaonabbi-okum bisharrin min thalikum annaruwaAAadaha Allahu allatheena kafaroo wabi/saalmaseer

And when Our proofs are recited to them as clear signs, thou recognisest perversity in the faces of those who ignore warning; they all but attack those who recite Our proofs to them. Say thou: “Then shall I inform you of worse than that? The Fire God has promised to those who ignore warning! And evil is the journey’s end.”

“O my people: yours is the dominion this day, you being dominant in the land, but who will help us against the wrath of God if it comes to us?” Pharaoh said: “I only show you what I see, and I only guide you to the path of rectitude.”

Say thou to those who were left behind of the desert Arabs: “You will be called against a people possessed of strong might — to fight them, or they submit. If you obey, God will give you a goodly reward; but if you turn away as you turned away before, He will punish you with a painful punishment.”

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola yaskhar qawmun min qawmin AAasa an yakoonookhayran minhum wala nisaon min nisa-in AAasaan yakunna khayran minhunna wala talmizoo anfusakum walatanabazoo bil-alqabi bi/sa al-ismualfusooqu baAAda al-eemani waman lam yatub faola-ikahumu aththalimoon

O you who heed warning: let not a people deride another people — it may be that they are better than they; neither women other women — it may be that they are better than they; neither speak ill of yourselves, nor insult one another with nicknames. Bad is the name of perfidy after faith. And whoso turns not in repentance, it is they who are the wrongdoers.

### 57. Surah Al-Hadid, Verse 15

Laqad arsalna rusulana bilbayyinatiwaanzalna maAAahumu alkitaba walmeezanaliyaqooma annasu bilqisti waanzalnaalhadeeda feehi ba/sun shadeedun wamanafiAAu linnasiwaliyaAAlama Allahu man yansuruhu warusulahu bilghaybiinna Allaha qawiyyun AAazeez

And We sent Our messengers with the clear signs, and sent down with them the Writ and the balance, that men uphold equity — and We sent down iron wherein is mighty power and benefits for men — and that God might know him who helps Him and His messengers unseen; God is strong and exalted in might.

### 58. Surah Al-Mujadila, Verse 8

Alam tara ila allatheena nuhooAAani annajwa thumma yaAAoodoona lima nuhooAAanhu wayatanajawna bil-ithmi walAAudwaniwamaAAsiyati arrasooli wa-itha jaookahayyawka bima lam yuhayyika bihi Allahuwayaqooloona fee anfusihim lawla yuAAaththibunaAllahu bima naqoolu hasbuhum jahannamu yaslawnahafabi/sa almaseer

Hast thou not considered those who were forbidden private conversation then return to what they were forbidden and converse confidentially in sin and enmity and disobedience to the Messenger? And when they come to thee, they greet thee with a greeting wherewith God never greeted thee; and they say within themselves: “Oh, that God but punished us for what we say!” Sufficient for them is Gehenna: they will burn therein; and evil is the journey’s end!

### 59. Surah Al-Hashr, Verse 14

La yuqatiloonakum jameeAAanilla fee quran muhassanatin aw min wara-ijudurin ba/suhum baynahum shadeedun tahsabuhum jameeAAanwaquloobuhum shatta thalika bi-annahum qawmun layaAAqiloon

They will not fight you all together save in fortified cities or from behind walls. Their might is strong among themselves. Thou thinkest them together, but their hearts are diverse; for it is that they are people who do not reason!

### 62. Surah Al-Jumu'ah, Verse 5

Mathalu allatheena hummiloo attawratathumma lam yahmilooha kamathali alhimariyahmilu asfaran bi/sa mathalu alqawmi allatheenakaththaboo bi-ayati Allahi wallahula yahdee alqawma aththalimeen

The likeness of those given to bear the Torah then have borne it not, is as the likeness of a donkey bearing books: evil is the example of the people who deny the proofs of God. And God guides not the wrongdoing people.

وَالَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا وَكَذَّبُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَٓا اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ اَصْحَابُ النَّارِ خَالِد۪ينَ ف۪يهَاۜ وَبِئْسَ الْمَص۪يرُ۟

Wallatheena kafaroo wakaththaboobi-ayatina ola-ika as-habuannari khalideena feeha wabi/sa almaseer

And those who ignore warning and deny Our proofs — those are the companions of the Fire, they abiding eternally therein; and evil is the journey’s end.

### 66. Surah At-Tahrim, Verse 9

O Prophet: strive thou against the atheists and the waverers, and be thou stern with them. And their shelter is Gehenna; and evil is the journey’s end.
