Surah Ali 'Imran, Verse 55 - **Form in this verse:** وَمُطَهِّرُكَ — wamuṭahhiruka · "and purify you" - **Grammar:** noun · pattern of tef'il · active · masculine · nominative case اِذْ قَالَ اللّٰهُ يَا ع۪يسٰٓى اِنّ۪ي مُتَوَفّ۪يكَ وَرَافِعُكَ اِلَيَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا وَجَاعِلُ الَّذ۪ينَ اتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُٓوا اِلٰى يَوْمِ الْقِيٰمَةِۚ ثُمَّ اِلَيَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَاَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ ف۪يمَا كُنْتُمْ ف۪يهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ Ith qala Allahu yaAAeesa innee mutawaffeeka warafiAAuka ilayya wamutahhirukamina allatheena kafaroo wajaAAilu allatheenaittabaAAooka fawqa allatheena kafaroo ila yawmialqiyamati thumma ilayya marjiAAukum faahkumubaynakum feema kuntum feehi takhtalifoon When God said: “O Jesus: I will take thee and raise thee to Me, and purify thee of those who ignore warning, and place those who follow thee above those who ignore warning until the Day of Resurrection. Surah Al-Ma'idah, Verse 6 - **Form in this verse:** فَٱطَّهَّرُوا۟ ۚ — fa-iṭṭahharū · "then purify yourselves" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tefa'ul · 2nd person, masculine, plural · imperative mood يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُٓوا اِذَا قُمْتُمْ اِلَى الصَّلٰوةِ فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ وَاَيْدِيَكُمْ اِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ وَامْسَحُوا بِرُؤُ۫سِكُمْ وَاَرْجُلَكُمْ اِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِۜ وَاِنْ كُنْتُمْ جُنُباً فَاطَّهَّرُواۜ وَاِنْ كُنْتُمْ مَرْضٰٓى اَوْ عَلٰى سَفَرٍ اَوْ جَٓاءَ اَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ مِنَ الْغَٓائِطِ اَوْ لٰمَسْتُمُ النِّسَٓاءَ فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا مَٓاءً فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَع۪يداً طَيِّباً فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَاَيْد۪يكُمْ مِنْهُۜ مَا يُر۪يدُ اللّٰهُ لِيَجْعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ حَرَجٍ وَلٰكِنْ يُر۪يدُ لِيُطَهِّرَكُمْ وَلِيُتِمَّ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَيْكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooitha qumtum ila assalati faghsiloowujoohakum waaydiyakum ila almarafiqi wamsahoobiruoosikum waarjulakum ila alkaAAbayni wa-in kuntumjunuban fattahharoo wa-in kuntum marda awAAala safarin aw jaa ahadun minkum mina algha-itiaw lamastumu annisaa falam tajidoo maanfatayammamoo saAAeedan tayyiban famsahoobiwujoohikum waaydeekum minhu ma yureedu AllahuliyajAAala AAalaykum min harajin walakin yureeduliyutahhirakum waliyutimma niAAmatahu AAalaykumlaAAallakum tashkuroon O you who heed warning: when you rise up for the duty: wash your faces, and your hands to the elbows, and wipe your heads, and your feet to the ankles. And if you are unclean, purify yourselves. And if you were ill, or on a journey, or one of you came from the privy, or you have lain with women, then find not water: resort to clean soil, and wipe your faces and your hands with it. Surah Al-Ma'idah, Verse 41 - **Form in this verse:** يُطَهِّرَ — yuṭahhira · "He purifies" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of tef'il · 3rd person, masculine, singular · present tense يَٓا اَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ لَا يَحْزُنْكَ الَّذ۪ينَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْكُفْرِ مِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ قَالُٓوا اٰمَنَّا بِاَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَلَمْ تُؤْمِنْ قُلُوبُهُمْۚ وَمِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ هَادُوا سَمَّاعُونَ لِلْكَذِبِ سَمَّاعُونَ لِقَوْمٍ اٰخَر۪ينَۙ لَمْ يَأْتُوكَۜ يُحَرِّفُونَ الْكَلِمَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَوَاضِعِه۪ۚ يَقُولُونَ اِنْ اُو۫ت۪يتُمْ هٰذَا فَخُذُوهُ وَاِنْ لَمْ تُؤْتَوْهُ فَاحْذَرُواۜ وَمَنْ يُرِدِ اللّٰهُ فِتْنَتَهُ فَلَنْ تَمْلِكَ لَهُ مِنَ اللّٰهِ شَيْـٔاًۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ لَمْ يُرِدِ اللّٰهُ اَنْ يُطَهِّرَ قُلُوبَهُمْۜ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا خِزْيٌ وَلَهُمْ فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ عَذَابٌ عَظ۪يمٌ Ya ayyuha arrasoolu layahzunka allatheena yusariAAoona fee alkufrimina allatheena qaloo amanna bi-afwahihimwalam tu/min quloobuhum wamina allatheena hadoosammaAAoona lilkathibi sammaAAoona liqawmin akhareenalam ya/tooka yuharrifoona alkalima min baAAdi mawadiAAihiyaqooloona in ooteetum hatha fakhuthoohu wa-in lamtu/tawhu fahtharoo waman yuridi Allahufitnatahu falan tamlika lahu mina Allahi shay-an ola-ikaallatheena lam yuridi Allahu an yutahhiraquloobahum lahum fee addunya khizyun walahum feeal-akhirati AAathabun AAatheem O Messenger: let there not grieve thee those who compete in denial among those who say: “We believe,” with their mouths, when their hearts have not believed. And among those who hold to Judaism are eager listeners to lies, eager listeners to another people who have not come to thee (they twist words from their places, saying “If this be given you, receive it; but if it be not given you, beware!” And whom God wishes to try: thou wilt not have power for him against God in anything. He said: “O my people: these are my daughters; they are purer for you. So be in prudent fear of God, and disgrace me not concerning my guests. Surah Al-Ahzab, Verse 53 - **Form in this verse:** أَطْهَرُ — aṭharu · "(is) purer" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine, singular · nominative case يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا لَا تَدْخُلُوا بُيُوتَ النَّبِيِّ اِلَّٓا اَنْ يُؤْذَنَ لَكُمْ اِلٰى طَعَامٍ غَيْرَ نَاظِر۪ينَ اِنٰيهُۙ وَلٰكِنْ اِذَا دُع۪يتُمْ فَادْخُلُوا فَاِذَا طَعِمْتُمْ فَانْتَشِرُوا وَلَا مُسْتَأْنِس۪ينَ لِحَد۪يثٍۜ اِنَّ ذٰلِكُمْ كَانَ يُؤْذِي النَّبِيَّ فَيَسْتَحْـي۪ مِنْكُمْۘ وَاللّٰهُ لَا يَسْتَحْـي۪ مِنَ الْحَقِّۜ وَاِذَا سَاَلْتُمُوهُنَّ مَتَاعاً فَسْـَٔلُوهُنَّ مِنْ وَرَٓاءِ حِجَابٍۜ ذٰلِكُمْ اَطْهَرُ لِقُلُوبِكُمْ وَقُلُوبِهِنَّۜ وَمَا كَانَ لَكُمْ اَنْ تُؤْذُوا رَسُولَ اللّٰهِ وَلَٓا اَنْ تَنْكِحُٓوا اَزْوَاجَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِه۪ٓ اَبَداًۜ اِنَّ ذٰلِكُمْ كَانَ عِنْـدَ اللّٰهِ عَظ۪يـماً Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tadkhuloo buyoota annabiyyi illa an yu/thanalakum ila taAAamin ghayra nathireenainahu walakin itha duAAeetum fadkhuloofa-itha taAAimtum fantashiroo walamusta/niseena lihadeethin inna thalikum kanayu/thee annabiyya fayastahyee minkum wallahula yastahyee mina alhaqqi wa-ithasaaltumoohunna mataAAan fas-aloohunna min wara-ihijabin thalikum atharu liquloobikumwaquloobihinna wama kana lakum an tu/thoorasoola Allahi wala an tankihoo azwajahumin baAAdihi abadan inna thalikum kana AAinda AllahiAAatheema O you who heed warning: enter not the houses of the Prophet, save that leave be given to you for a meal, without watching for its hour. But when you are called, then enter; and when you have eaten, then disperse. And seek not to remain for conversation; that hinders the Prophet, and he is shy of you; but God is not shy of the truth. And when you ask of his wives an item: ask it of them from behind a partition; that is purer for your hearts and their hearts.
