So whoso among you witnesses the moon, let him fast in it. And whoso of you is sick or on a journey: then a number of other days. God desires for you ease, and He desires not for you hardship; but that you complete the number; and that you magnify God for guiding you; and that you might be grateful.

It is made lawful for you on the night of the fast to go in unto your women. They are a covering for you, and you are a covering for them. God knows that you deceived yourselves, so He turned towards you and pardoned you; so now lie with them and seek what God has prescribed for you. And eat and drink until clear to you be the white thread from the black thread of the dawn. Then complete the fast until night. And lie with them not when you remain in the places of worship. Those are the limits of God, so approach them not. Thus does God make plain His proofs to men, that they might be in prudent fear.

And complete the pilgrimage and the attendance for God. But if you be straitened, then what is easy of the offering. And shave not your heads until the offering reaches its place of sacrifice. And whoso among you is sick or has a hindrance of the head: the redemption is by fast or charity or penance. And when you are secure, then whoso enjoys the attendance until the pilgrimage, then what is easy of the offering. And whoso has not the means: a fast of three days during the pilgrimage, and seven when you have returned. Those are ten complete. That is for him whose family is not present at the inviolable place of worship. And be in prudent fear of God, and know that God is severe in retribution.

It is not for a believer to kill a believer save in error; and whoso kills a believer in error: the manumission of a believing slave, and blood-money delivered to his family save if they forgive by way of charity. And if he be of a people at enmity with you and a believer: the manumission of a believing slave; and if he be of a people between whom and you is a treaty: blood-money delivered to his family, and the manumission of a believing slave. And whoso has not the means: a fast of two months consecutively as repentance from God; and God is knowing and wise.

God will not take you to task for the vain speech in your oaths; but He will take you to task for what you have contracted by oath, whereof the expiation is the feeding of ten needy persons with the average of that you feed your families, or the clothing of them, or the manumission of a slave; but whoso has not the means, then a fast of three days. That is the expiation of your oaths when you have sworn. But keep your oaths; thus does God make plain to you His proofs, that you might be grateful.

O you who heed warning: kill no game when you are forbidden; and whoso of you kills it intentionally: the payment is the like of what he killed from grazing livestock. Let judge it two just men from among you by an offering reaching the kaʿba, or expiation: feeding needy persons or the equivalent of that in fasting, that he might taste the evil consequence of his deed. God has pardoned what is past; but whoso returns, God will take vengeance on him; and God is exalted in might and vengeful.

And whoso has not the means: — a fast of two months consecutively before they touch one another. And whoso is not able: — the feeding of sixty needy persons. That is that you might believe in God and His messenger. And those are the limits of God; and for the false claimers of guidance is a painful punishment.
