Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 26 - **Form in this verse:** يَسْتَحْىِۦٓ — yastaḥyī · "ashamed" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of istif'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · present tense اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَسْتَحْـي۪ٓ اَنْ يَضْرِبَ مَثَلاً مَا بَعُوضَةً فَمَا فَوْقَهَاۜ فَاَمَّا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا فَيَعْلَمُونَ اَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْۚ وَاَمَّا الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا فَيَقُولُونَ مَاذَٓا اَرَادَ اللّٰهُ بِهٰذَا مَثَلاًۢ يُضِلُّ بِه۪ كَث۪يراً وَيَهْد۪ي بِه۪ كَث۪يراًۜ وَمَا يُضِلُّ بِه۪ٓ اِلَّا الْفَاسِق۪ينَۙ Inna Allaha la yastahyeean yadriba mathalan ma baAAoodatan famafawqaha faamma allatheena amanoofayaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu min rabbihim waammaallatheena kafaroo fayaqooloona matha aradaAllahu bihatha mathalan yudillu bihikatheeran wayahdee bihi katheeran wama yudillu bihiilla alfasiqeen God is not ashamed to strike a similitude, be it of a gnat or of what is above it. Then as for those who heed warning: they know that it is the truth from their Lord; and as for those who ignore warning: they say: “What means God by this similitude?” He leads astray many thereby, and He guides many thereby; and He leads astray thereby only the perfidious: _https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-26.md_ ### 2. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 85 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ — l-ḥayati · "the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case ثُمَّ اَنْتُمْ هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ تَقْتُلُونَ اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَتُخْرِجُونَ فَر۪يقاً مِنْكُمْ مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْۘ تَظَاهَرُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِالْاِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِۜ وَاِنْ يَأْتُوكُمْ اُسَارٰى تُفَادُوهُمْ وَهُوَ مُحَرَّمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ اِخْرَاجُهُمْۜ اَفَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِبَعْضِ الْكِتَابِ وَتَكْفُرُونَ بِبَعْضٍۚ فَمَا جَزَٓاءُ مَنْ يَفْعَلُ ذٰلِكَ مِنْكُمْ اِلَّا خِزْيٌ فِي الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَاۚ وَيَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ يُرَدُّونَ اِلٰٓى اَشَدِّ الْعَذَابِۜ وَمَا اللّٰهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ Thumma antum haola-itaqtuloona anfusakum watukhrijoona fareeqan minkum min diyarihimtathaharoona AAalayhim bil-ithmi walAAudwaniwa-in ya/tookum osara tufadoohum wahuwa muharramunAAalaykum ikhrajuhum afatu/minoona bibaAAdi alkitabiwatakfuroona bibaAAdin fama jazao manyafAAalu thalika minkum illa khizyun fee alhayatiaddunya wayawma alqiyamati yuraddoona ilaashaddi alAAathabi wama Allahu bighafilinAAamma taAAmaloon Then are you those who kill your own, and turn a faction among you out of their homes, assisting one another against them in sin and enmity; and if they come to you as captives, you ransom them, but unlawful for you was their expulsion. Do you believe in part of the Writ and deny part? Then what is the reward of him among you who does that save disgrace in the life of this world? Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 96 - **Form in this verse:** حَيَوٰةٍۢ — ḥayatin · "life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case · indefinite وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ اَحْرَصَ النَّاسِ عَلٰى حَيٰوةٍۚ وَمِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ اَشْرَكُوا يَوَدُّ اَحَدُهُمْ لَوْ يُعَمَّرُ اَلْفَ سَنَةٍۚ وَمَا هُوَ بِمُزَحْزِحِه۪ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ اَنْ يُعَمَّرَۜ وَاللّٰهُ بَص۪يرٌ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ۟ Walatajidannahum ahrasa annasiAAala hayatin wamina allatheenaashrakoo yawaddu ahaduhum law yuAAammaru alfa sanatin wamahuwa bimuzahzihihi mina alAAathabi anyuAAammara wallahu baseerun bimayaAAmaloon And thou wilt find them the greediest of men for life. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 164 - **Form in this verse:** فَأَحْيَا — fa-aḥyā · "giving life" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of if'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · past tense اِنَّ ف۪ي خَلْقِ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ الَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَالْفُلْكِ الَّت۪ي تَجْر۪ي فِي الْبَحْرِ بِمَا يَنْفَعُ النَّاسَ وَمَٓا اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ مِنْ مَٓاءٍ فَاَحْيَا بِهِ الْاَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا وَبَثَّ ف۪يهَا مِنْ كُلِّ دَٓابَّةٍۖ وَتَصْر۪يفِ الرِّيَاحِ وَالسَّحَابِ الْمُسَخَّرِ بَيْنَ السَّمَٓاءِ وَالْاَرْضِ لَاٰيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ Inna fee khalqi assamawatiwal-ardi wakhtilafi allayli wannahariwalfulki allatee tajree fee albahri bimayanfaAAu annasa wama anzala Allahumina assama-i min ma-in faahyabihi al-arda baAAda mawtiha wabaththa feehamin kulli dabbatin watasreefi arriyahiwassahabi almusakhkhari bayna assama-iwal-ardi laayatin liqawminyaAAqiloon In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, and the ship which runs in the sea with what benefits men, and what God sent down of water from the sky then gave life thereby to the earth after its death, and spread therein every creature, and in the circulation of the winds and the clouds made subject between the heaven and the earth are proofs for people who reason. _https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-164.md_ ### 2. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 212 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ — l-ḥayatu · "(is) the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · nominative case زُيِّنَ لِلَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَا وَيَسْخَرُونَ مِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُواۢ وَالَّذ۪ينَ اتَّقَوْا فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِۜ وَاللّٰهُ يَرْزُقُ مَنْ يَشَٓاءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ Zuyyina lillatheena kafaroo alhayatuaddunya wayaskharoona mina allatheena amanoowallatheena ittaqaw fawqahum yawma alqiyamatiwallahu yarzuqu man yashao bighayri hisab Made fair is the life of this world for those who ignore warning; and they deride those who heed warning. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 243 - **Form in this verse:** أَحْيَـٰهُمْ ۚ — aḥyāhum · "He restored them to life" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of if'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · past tense اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذ۪ينَ خَرَجُوا مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ وَهُمْ اُلُوفٌ حَذَرَ الْمَوْتِۖ فَقَالَ لَهُمُ اللّٰهُ مُوتُوا ثُمَّ اَحْيَاهُمْۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ Alam tara ila allatheenakharajoo min diyarihim wahum oloofun hatharaalmawti faqala lahumu Allahu mootoo thumma ahyahuminna Allaha lathoo fadlin AAala annasiwalakinna akthara annasi layashkuroon Hast thou not considered those who went forth from their habitations in their thousands, fearing death? Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 255 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَىُّ — l-ḥayu · "the Ever-Living" - **Grammar:** noun · masculine, singular · nominative case اَللّٰهُ لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَۚ اَلْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌۜ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمٰوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْاَرْضِۜ مَنْ ذَا الَّذ۪ي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُٓ اِلَّا بِاِذْنِه۪ۜ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ اَيْد۪يهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْۚ وَلَا يُح۪يطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ عِلْمِه۪ٓ اِلَّا بِمَا شَٓاءَۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَۚ وَلَا يَؤُ۫دُهُ حِفْظُهُمَاۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظ۪يمُ Allahu la ilaha illahuwa alhayyu alqayyoomu la ta/khuthuhusinatun wala nawmun lahu ma fee assamawatiwama fee al-ardi man tha allatheeyashfaAAu AAindahu illa bi-ithnihi yaAAlamu mabayna aydeehim wama khalfahum wala yuheetoonabishay-in min AAilmihi illa bima shaawasiAAa kursiyyuhu assamawati wal-ardawala yaooduhu hifthuhumawahuwa alAAaliyyu alAAatheem God, there is no god save He, the Living, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him; to Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth — who will intercede with Him save by His leave? He knows what is before them and what is after them, and they encompass not anything of His knowledge save what He wills. When Abraham said: “My Lord is He who gives life, and gives death,” he said: “I give life, and I give death.” Abraham said: “God brings the sun from the East; so bring thou it from the West.” Then was the one who ignored warning lost for words; and God guides not the wrongdoing people. _https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-258.md_ ### 2. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 259 - **Form in this verse:** يُحْىِۦ — yuḥ'yī · "(will) bring to life" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of if'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · present tense اَوْ كَالَّذ۪ي مَرَّ عَلٰى قَرْيَةٍ وَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلٰى عُرُوشِهَاۚ قَالَ اَنّٰى يُحْـي۪ هٰذِهِ اللّٰهُ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَاۚ فَاَمَاتَهُ اللّٰهُ مِائَةَ عَامٍ ثُمَّ بَعَثَهُۜ قَالَ كَمْ لَبِثْتَۜ قَالَ لَبِثْتُ يَوْماً اَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍۜ قَالَ بَلْ لَبِثْتَ مِائَةَ عَامٍ فَانْظُرْ اِلٰى طَعَامِكَ وَشَرَابِكَ لَمْ يَتَسَنَّهْۚ وَانْظُرْ اِلٰى حِمَارِكَ وَلِنَجْعَلَكَ اٰيَةً لِلنَّاسِ وَانْظُرْ اِلَى الْعِظَامِ كَيْفَ نُنْشِزُهَا ثُمَّ نَكْسُوهَا لَحْماًۜ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُۙ قَالَ اَعْلَمُ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَد۪يرٌ Aw kallathee marra AAalaqaryatin wahiya khawiyatun AAala AAurooshihaqala anna yuhyee hathihi AllahubaAAda mawtiha faamatahu Allahu mi-ata AAaminthumma baAAathahu qala kam labithta qala labithtuyawman aw baAAda yawmin qala bal labithta mi-ata AAaminfanthur ila taAAamikawasharabika lam yatasannah wanthurila himarika walinajAAalaka ayatan linnasiwanthur ila alAAithamikayfa nunshizuha thumma naksooha lahmanfalamma tabayyana lahu qala aAAlamu anna AllahaAAala kulli shay-in qadeer Or like one passing by a town when it was desolate: he said: “How will God give life to this after its death?” So God caused him to die a hundred years; then He raised him up. He said: “How long hast thou tarried?” Said he: “I have tarried a day, or part of a day.” He said: “Nay, thou hast tarried a hundred years. Look thou at thy food and drink: they are not spoiled. And look thou at thy donkey — and We will make thee a proof for mankind — and look thou at the bones: how We restore them to life, then We clothe them with flesh.” And when it had become clear to him, said he: “I know that God is over all things powerful.” _https://quran.so/surah-al-baqarah/verse-259.md_ ### 2. And I heal the blind, and the leper, and give life to the dead by the leave of God. Surah Ali 'Imran, Verse 185 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ — l-ḥayatu · "(is) the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · nominative case كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَٓائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِۜ وَاِنَّمَا تُوَفَّوْنَ اُجُورَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِۜ فَمَنْ زُحْزِحَ عَنِ النَّارِ وَاُدْخِلَ الْجَنَّةَ فَقَدْ فَازَۜ وَمَا الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَٓا اِلَّا مَتَاعُ الْغُرُورِ Kullu nafsin tha-iqatu almawtiwa-innama tuwaffawna ojoorakum yawma alqiyamatifaman zuhziha AAani annari waodkhilaaljannata faqad faza wama alhayatu addunyailla mataAAu alghuroor Every soul will taste death; and you will but be paid in full your rewards on the Day of Resurrection. Surah An-Nisa, Verse 109 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ — l-ḥayati · "the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case هَٓا اَنْتُمْ هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ جَادَلْتُمْ عَنْهُمْ فِي الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا فَمَنْ يُجَادِلُ اللّٰهَ عَنْهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ اَمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَك۪يلاً Haantum haola-i jadaltumAAanhum fee alhayati addunya famanyujadilu Allaha AAanhum yawma alqiyamati amman yakoonu AAalayhim wakeela Here you are, those who have argued on their behalf in the life of this world; but who will argue with God on their behalf on the Day of Resurrection, or who will be their guardian? _https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-109.md_ ### 5. Surah Al-Ma'idah, Verse 32 - **Form in this verse:** أَحْيَاهَا — aḥyāhā · "saves it" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of if'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · past tense مِنْ اَجْلِ ذٰلِكَۚۛ كَتَبْنَا عَلٰى بَن۪ٓي اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ اَنَّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْساً بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ اَوْ فَسَادٍ فِي الْاَرْضِ فَكَاَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَم۪يـعاًۜ وَمَنْ اَحْيَاهَا فَكَاَنَّمَٓا اَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَم۪يعاًۜ وَلَقَدْ جَٓاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا بِالْبَيِّنَاتِۘ ثُمَّ اِنَّ كَث۪يراً مِنْهُمْ بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ فِي الْاَرْضِ لَمُسْرِفُونَ Min ajli thalika katabna AAalabanee isra-eela annahu man qatala nafsan bighayri nafsinaw fasadin fee al-ardi fakaannama qatala annasajameeAAan waman ahyaha fakaannama ahyaannasa jameeAAan walaqad jaat-hum rusulunabilbayyinati thumma inna katheeran minhum baAAda thalikafee al-ardi lamusrifoon For that cause We prescribed for the children of Israel that whoso takes a life other than for a life or corruption in the land, it will be as if he killed mankind altogether; (and whoso gives life, it will be as if he gave life to mankind altogether ­— and Our messengers came to them with clear signs, then many of them after that are committers of excess in the earth — ) _https://quran.so/surah-al-maidah/verse-32.md_ ### 5. Surah Al-Ma'idah, Verse 32 - **Form in this verse:** أَحْيَا — aḥyā · "he has saved" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of if'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · past tense مِنْ اَجْلِ ذٰلِكَۚۛ كَتَبْنَا عَلٰى بَن۪ٓي اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ اَنَّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْساً بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ اَوْ فَسَادٍ فِي الْاَرْضِ فَكَاَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَم۪يـعاًۜ وَمَنْ اَحْيَاهَا فَكَاَنَّمَٓا اَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَم۪يعاًۜ وَلَقَدْ جَٓاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا بِالْبَيِّنَاتِۘ ثُمَّ اِنَّ كَث۪يراً مِنْهُمْ بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ فِي الْاَرْضِ لَمُسْرِفُونَ Min ajli thalika katabna AAalabanee isra-eela annahu man qatala nafsan bighayri nafsinaw fasadin fee al-ardi fakaannama qatala annasajameeAAan waman ahyaha fakaannama ahyaannasa jameeAAan walaqad jaat-hum rusulunabilbayyinati thumma inna katheeran minhum baAAda thalikafee al-ardi lamusrifoon For that cause We prescribed for the children of Israel that whoso takes a life other than for a life or corruption in the land, it will be as if he killed mankind altogether; (and whoso gives life, it will be as if he gave life to mankind altogether ­— and Our messengers came to them with clear signs, then many of them after that are committers of excess in the earth — ) _https://quran.so/surah-al-maidah/verse-32.md_ ### 6. Surah Al-An'am, Verse 70 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ — l-ḥayatu · "the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · nominative case وَذَرِ الَّذ۪ينَ اتَّخَذُوا د۪ينَهُمْ لَعِباً وَلَهْواً وَغَرَّتْهُمُ الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَا وَذَكِّرْ بِه۪ٓ اَنْ تُبْسَلَ نَفْسٌ بِمَا كَسَبَتْۗ لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ وَلِيٌّ وَلَا شَف۪يعٌۚ وَاِنْ تَعْدِلْ كُلَّ عَدْلٍ لَا يُؤْخَذْ مِنْهَاۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ اُبْسِلُوا بِمَا كَسَبُواۚ لَهُمْ شَرَابٌ مِنْ حَم۪يمٍ وَعَذَابٌ اَل۪يمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْفُرُونَ۟ Wathari allatheena ittakhathoodeenahum laAAiban walahwan wagharrat-humu alhayatuaddunya wathakkir bihi an tubsala nafsunbima kasabat laysa laha min dooni Allahiwaliyyun wala shafeeAAun wa-in taAAdil kulla AAadlin layu/khath minha ola-ika allatheenaobsiloo bima kasaboo lahum sharabun min hameeminwaAAathabun aleemun bima kanoo yakfuroon And leave thou those who take their doctrine as play and diversion, and whom the life of this world has deluded; and remind thou with it lest a soul be given up to destruction for what it earned; it has not, besides God, ally or intercessor. And though it offer in compensation every equivalence, it will not be accepted from it: those are they who are given up to destruction for what they earned; they have scalding water and a painful punishment for what they denied. _https://quran.so/surah-al-anam/verse-70.md_ ### 6. Surah Al-A'raf, Verse 127 - **Form in this verse:** وَنَسْتَحْىِۦ — wanastaḥyī · "and we will let live" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of istif'al · 1st person, plural · present tense وَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْ قَوْمِ فِرْعَوْنَ اَتَذَرُ مُوسٰى وَقَوْمَهُ لِيُفْسِدُوا فِي الْاَرْضِ وَيَذَرَكَ وَاٰلِهَتَكَۜ قَالَ سَنُقَتِّلُ اَبْنَٓاءَهُمْ وَنَسْتَحْـي۪ نِسَٓاءَهُمْۚ وَاِنَّا فَوْقَهُمْ قَاهِرُونَ Waqala almalao min qawmi firAAawnaatatharu moosa waqawmahu liyufsidoo fee al-ardiwayatharaka waalihataka qala sanuqattilu abnaahumwanastahyee nisaahum wa-inna fawqahum qahiroon And the eminent ones among the people of Pharaoh said: “Wilt thou leave Moses and his people to work corruption in the land, and leave thee and thy gods?” Said he: “We will kill their sons and spare their women; for indeed we have them in subjugation.” _https://quran.so/surah-al-araf/verse-127.md_ ### 7. Surah Al-A'raf, Verse 141 - **Form in this verse:** وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ — wayastaḥyūna · "and letting live" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of istif'al · 3rd person, masculine, plural · present tense وَاِذْ اَنْجَيْنَاكُمْ مِنْ اٰلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُٓوءَ الْعَذَابِۚ يُقَتِّلُونَ اَبْنَٓاءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَٓاءَكُمْۜ وَف۪ي ذٰلِكُمْ بَلَٓاءٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ عَظ۪يمٌ۟ Wa-ith anjaynakum min alifirAAawna yasoomoonakum soo-a alAAathabi yuqattiloona abnaakumwayastahyoona nisaakum wafee thalikum balaonmin rabbikum AAatheem And when We delivered you from the house of Pharaoh, they were afflicting you with an evil punishment, killing your sons, and sparing your women; and in that was a great trial from your Lord. _https://quran.so/surah-al-araf/verse-141.md_ ### 7. Surah Al-A'raf, Verse 158 - **Form in this verse:** يُحْىِۦ — yuḥ'yī · "He gives life" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of if'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · present tense قُلْ يَٓا اَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اِنّ۪ي رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ اِلَيْكُمْ جَم۪يعاًۨ الَّذ۪ي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِۚ لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ يُحْـي۪ وَيُم۪يتُۖ فَاٰمِنُوا بِاللّٰهِ وَرَسُولِهِ النَّبِيِّ الْاُمِّيِّ الَّذ۪ي يُؤْمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ وَكَلِمَاتِه۪ وَاتَّبِعُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ Qul ya ayyuha annasuinnee rasoolu Allahi ilaykum jameeAAan allatheelahu mulku assamawati wal-ardila ilaha illa huwa yuhyee wayumeetufaaminoo billahi warasoolihi annabiyyial-ommiyyi allathee yu/minu billahi wakalimatihiwattabiAAoohu laAAallakum tahtadoon (Say thou: “O mankind: I am the messenger of God to you all together — to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no god save He. He gives life and He gives death.” So believe in God and His messenger, the unschooled prophet, who believes in God and His words; and follow him, that you might be guided.) _https://quran.so/surah-al-araf/verse-158.md_ ### 8. Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 24 - **Form in this verse:** يُحْيِيكُمْ ۖ — yuḥ'yīkum · "gives you life" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of if'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · present tense يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا اسْتَج۪يبُوا لِلّٰهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ اِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْي۪يكُمْۚ وَاعْلَمُٓوا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِه۪ وَاَنَّـهُٓ اِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ Yaayyuha allatheena amanooistajeeboo lillahi walirrasooli itha daAAakumlima yuhyeekum waAAlamoo anna Allahayahoolu bayna almar-i waqalbihi waannahu ilayhi tuhsharoon O you who heed warning: respond to God and the Messenger when He calls you to what gives you life; and know that God stands between a man and his heart, and that to Him you will be gathered. _https://quran.so/surah-al-anfal/verse-24.md_ ### 8. Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 42 - **Form in this verse:** وَيَحْيَىٰ — wayaḥyā · "and (might) live" - **Grammar:** verb · 3rd person, masculine, singular · present tense اِذْ اَنْتُمْ بِالْعُدْوَةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ بِالْعُدْوَةِ الْقُصْوٰى وَالرَّكْبُ اَسْفَلَ مِنْكُمْۜ وَلَوْ تَوَاعَدْتُمْ لَاخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِي الْم۪يعَادِۙ وَلٰكِنْ لِيَقْضِيَ اللّٰهُ اَمْراً كَانَ مَفْعُولاًۙ لِيَهْلِكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ عَنْ بَيِّنَةٍ وَيَحْيٰى مَنْ حَيَّ عَنْ بَيِّنَةٍۜ وَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَسَم۪يعٌ عَل۪يمٌۙ Ith antum bilAAudwati addunyawahum bilAAudwati alquswa warrakbuasfala minkum walaw tawaAAadtum lakhtalaftum feealmeeAAadi walakin liyaqdiya Allahuamran kana mafAAoolan liyahlika man halaka AAan bayyinatinwayahya man hayya AAan bayyinatin wa-innaAllaha lasameeAAun AAaleem When you were on the near bank, and they were on the far bank, and the caravan was lower than you. And had you agreed to meet, you would have failed in the appointment. But that God might conclude a matter that was done: — that there might perish he who perished upon clear evidence, and that there might live he who lived upon clear evidence; and God is hearing and knowing. _https://quran.so/surah-al-anfal/verse-42.md_ ### 8. Surah At-Tawbah, Verse 38 - **Form in this verse:** بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِ — bil-ḥayati · "with the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا مَا لَكُمْ اِذَا ق۪يلَ لَكُمُ انْفِرُوا ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِ اثَّاقَلْتُمْ اِلَى الْاَرْضِۜ اَرَض۪يتُمْ بِالْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا مِنَ الْاٰخِرَةِۚ فَمَا مَتَاعُ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ اِلَّا قَل۪يلٌ Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooma lakum itha qeela lakumu infiroo fee sabeeli Allahiiththaqaltum ila al-ardi aradeetum bilhayatiaddunya mina al-akhirati fama mataAAualhayati addunya fee al-akhiratiilla qaleel O you who heed warning: what ails you that when it is said to you: “Go forth in the cause of God,” you cling to the earth? Surah At-Tawbah, Verse 38 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ — l-ḥayati · "(of) the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا مَا لَكُمْ اِذَا ق۪يلَ لَكُمُ انْفِرُوا ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِ اثَّاقَلْتُمْ اِلَى الْاَرْضِۜ اَرَض۪يتُمْ بِالْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا مِنَ الْاٰخِرَةِۚ فَمَا مَتَاعُ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ اِلَّا قَل۪يلٌ Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooma lakum itha qeela lakumu infiroo fee sabeeli Allahiiththaqaltum ila al-ardi aradeetum bilhayatiaddunya mina al-akhirati fama mataAAualhayati addunya fee al-akhiratiilla qaleel O you who heed warning: what ails you that when it is said to you: “Go forth in the cause of God,” you cling to the earth? Surah Yunus, Verse 24 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ — l-ḥayati · "(of) the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case اِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَٓاءٍ اَنْزَلْنَاهُ مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ فَاخْتَلَطَ بِه۪ نَبَاتُ الْاَرْضِ مِمَّا يَأْكُلُ النَّاسُ وَالْاَنْعَامُۜ حَتّٰٓى اِذَٓا اَخَذَتِ الْاَرْضُ زُخْرُفَهَا وَازَّيَّـنَتْ وَظَنَّ اَهْلُهَٓا اَنَّهُمْ قَادِرُونَ عَلَيْهَٓاۙ اَتٰيهَٓا اَمْرُنَا لَيْلاً اَوْ نَهَاراً فَجَعَلْنَاهَا حَص۪يداً كَاَنْ لَمْ تَغْنَ بِالْاَمْسِۜ كَذٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الْاٰيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ Innama mathalu alhayatiaddunya kama-in anzalnahu mina assama-ifakhtalata bihi nabatu al-ardi mimmaya/kulu annasu wal-anAAamu hattaitha akhathati al-ardu zukhrufaha wazzayyanatwathanna ahluha annahum qadiroonaAAalayha ataha amruna laylan aw naharanfajaAAalnaha haseedan kaan lam taghnabil-amsi kathalika nufassilu al-ayatiliqawmin yatafakkaroon The likeness of the life of this world is but like water We send down from the sky, and the plants of the earth mingle with it, whereof men and cattle eat: when the earth has taken her decoration, and is made fair, and its people think they have power over it, Our command comes by night or by day, and We make it reaped as if it had not flourished the day before — thus do We set out and detail the proofs for people who reflect. _https://quran.so/surah-yunus/verse-24.md_ ### 10. Surah Yunus, Verse 88 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ — l-ḥayati · "the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case وَقَالَ مُوسٰى رَبَّـنَٓا اِنَّكَ اٰتَيْتَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَاَهُ ز۪ينَةً وَاَمْوَالاً فِي الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَاۙ رَبَّـنَا لِيُضِلُّوا عَنْ سَب۪يلِكَۚ رَبَّـنَا اطْمِسْ عَلٰٓى اَمْوَالِهِمْ وَاشْدُدْ عَلٰى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَلَا يُؤْمِنُوا حَتّٰى يَرَوُا الْعَذَابَ الْاَل۪يمَ Waqala moosa rabbanainnaka atayta firAAawna wamalaahu zeenatan waamwalanfee alhayati addunya rabbanaliyudilloo AAan sabeelika rabbana itmis AAalaamwalihim washdud AAala quloobihim falayu/minoo hatta yarawoo alAAathaba al-aleem And Moses said: “Our Lord: Thou hast given Pharaoh and his eminent ones adornment and wealth in the life of this world, our Lord, that they might lead astray from Thy path. Surah Yunus, Verse 98 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ — l-ḥayati · "the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case فَلَوْلَا كَانَتْ قَرْيَةٌ اٰمَنَتْ فَنَفَعَهَٓا ا۪يمَانُهَٓا اِلَّا قَوْمَ يُونُسَۜ لَمَّٓا اٰمَنُوا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمْ عَذَابَ الْخِزْيِ فِي الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا وَمَتَّعْنَاهُمْ اِلٰى ح۪ينٍ Falawla kanat qaryatun amanatfanafaAAaha eemanuha illa qawmayoonusa lamma amanoo kashafna AAanhum AAathabaalkhizyi fee alhayati addunyawamattaAAnahum ila heen Oh, that a city had but believed and profited by its faith save the people of Jonah! Surah Ar-Ra'd, Verse 26 - **Form in this verse:** بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِ — bil-ḥayati · "in the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case اَللّٰهُ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَشَٓاءُ وَيَقْدِرُۜ وَفَرِحُوا بِالْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَاۜ وَمَا الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَا فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ اِلَّا مَتَاعٌ۟ Allahu yabsutu arrizqaliman yashao wayaqdiru wafarihoo bilhayatiaddunya wama alhayatu addunyafee al-akhirati illa mataAA God expands provision for whom He wills, and He straitens. Surah Ibrahim, Verse 6 - **Form in this verse:** وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ — wayastaḥyūna · "and letting live" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of istif'al · 3rd person, masculine, plural · present tense وَاِذْ قَالَ مُوسٰى لِقَوْمِهِ اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللّٰهِ عَلَيْكُمْ اِذْ اَنْجٰيكُمْ مِنْ اٰلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُٓوءَ الْعَذَابِ وَيُذَبِّحُونَ اَبْنَٓاءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَٓاءَكُمْۜ وَف۪ي ذٰلِكُمْ بَلَٓاءٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ عَظ۪يمٌ۟ Wa-ith qala moosaliqawmihi othkuroo niAAmata Allahi AAalaykum ithanjakum min ali firAAawna yasoomoonakum soo-a alAAathabiwayuthabbihoona abnaakum wayastahyoonanisaakum wafee thalikum balaon min rabbikumAAatheem And when Moses said to his people: “Remember the favour of God upon you when He delivered you from the house of Pharaoh: they were afflicting you with an evil punishment, and slaughtering your sons and sparing your women; and in that was a great trial from your Lord.” _https://quran.so/surah-ibrahim/verse-6.md_ ### 14. Surah Ibrahim, Verse 23 - **Form in this verse:** تَحِيَّتُهُمْ — taḥiyyatuhum · "their greetings" - **Grammar:** noun · pattern of tef'il · noun-verb · feminine · nominative case وَاُدْخِلَ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْر۪ي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهَارُ خَالِد۪ينَ ف۪يهَا بِاِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْۜ تَحِيَّتُهُمْ ف۪يهَا سَلَامٌ Waodkhila allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati jannatintajree min tahtiha al-anharu khalideenafeeha bi-ithni rabbihim tahiyyatuhum feehasalam And those who heed warning and do righteous deeds will be made to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, they abiding eternally therein by the leave of their Lord. Surah Ibrahim, Verse 27 - **Form in this verse:** ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ — l-ḥayati · "the life" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case يُثَبِّتُ اللّٰهُ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا بِالْقَوْلِ الثَّابِتِ فِي الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْاٰخِرَةِۚ وَيُضِلُّ اللّٰهُ الظَّالِم۪ينَ وَيَفْعَلُ اللّٰهُ مَا يَشَٓاءُ۟ Yuthabbitu Allahu allatheena amanoobilqawli aththabiti fee alhayatiaddunya wafee al-akhirati wayudilluAllahu aththalimeenawayafAAalu Allahu ma yasha/ God strengthens those who heed warning with a firm word in the life of this world and in the Hereafter. Surah An-Nahl, Verse 65 - **Form in this verse:** فَأَحْيَا — fa-aḥyā · "then gives life" - **Grammar:** verb · pattern of if'al · 3rd person, masculine, singular · past tense وَاللّٰهُ اَنْزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ مَٓاءً فَاَحْيَا بِهِ الْاَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَاۜ اِنَّ ف۪ي ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيَةً لِقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ۟ Wallahu anzala mina assama-imaan faahya bihi al-arda baAAdamawtiha inna fee thalika laayatan liqawminyasmaAAoon And God sends down from the sky water and gives life thereby to the earth after its death.
