- **Meaning:** To drive fast, keep with care, gain mastery over, get the better of, prevail over, overcome, gain an advantage, to drive quickly or violently or roughly, to collect, gain possession of a thing, drive or incline someone after gaining mastery over him, to guard/keep/keep safely/protect/take care of/mind a person or thing, to be observant or regardful of a thing, to do an affair or thing soundly or firmly or thoroughly or very well, to go or journey a hard or vehement pace, make an arrow light by scraping and paring it.

اَلَّذ۪ينَ يَتَرَبَّصُونَ بِكُمْۚ فَاِنْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فَتْحٌ مِنَ اللّٰهِ قَالُٓوا اَلَمْ نَكُنْ مَعَكُمْۘ وَاِنْ كَانَ لِلْكَافِر۪ينَ نَص۪يبٌۙ قَالُٓوا اَلَمْ نَسْتَحْوِذْ عَلَيْكُمْ وَنَمْنَعْكُمْ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَۜ فَاللّٰهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِۜ وَلَنْ يَجْعَلَ اللّٰهُ لِلْكَافِر۪ينَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ سَب۪يلاً۟

Allatheena yatarabbasoonabikum fa-in kana lakum fathun mina Allahi qalooalam nakun maAAakum wa-in kana lilkafireena naseebunqaloo alam nastahwith AAalaykum wanamnaAAkummina almu/mineena fallahu yahkumu baynakumyawma alqiyamati walan yajAAala Allahu lilkafireenaAAala almu/mineena sabeela

Those who watch and wait with regard to you. Then if there be a victory for you from God they say: “Were we not with you?” but if there be for the false claimers of guidance a portion they say: “Did we not gain mastery over you, but defended you against the believers?” And God will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection; and God makes not for the false claimers of guidance any path against the believers.

### 58. Surah Al-Mujadila, Verse 19

اِسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَاَنْسٰيهُمْ ذِكْرَ اللّٰهِۜ  اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ حِزْبُ الشَّيْطَانِۜ اَلَٓا اِنَّ حِزْبَ الشَّيْطَانِ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

Istahwatha AAalayhimu ashshaytanufaansahum thikra Allahi ola-ika hizbuashshaytani ala inna hizba ashshaytanihumu alkhasiroon

The satan overcame them, and made them forget the remembrance of God. Those are the party of the satan. In truth, the party of the satan, they are the losers.
