- **Meaning:** To get tired/fatigued/jaded, fall short. To remove/put off/take off/strip off something, to peel, to sweep, to sink and disappear, to be low or retired, to be weary, to be dim or dull, express grief or sorrow or regret, to despise someone, to annoy or vex someone, drive someone away, cause someone to experience or fall into grief or regret, to moult or shed feathers (birds), to fall or fall off due to fatigue, to uncover something, to be removed or cleared away.

Waqala allatheena ittabaAAoolaw anna lana karratan fanatabarraa minhum kamatabarraoo minna kathalika yureehimu AllahuaAAmalahum hasaratin AAalayhim wamahum bikharijeena mina annar

And those who followed will say: “Were we to return, we would disown them just as they have disowned us,”[...]. Thus will God show them their deeds as regrets for them; and they will not come out of the Fire.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola takoonoo kallatheena kafaroo waqalooli-ikhwanihim itha daraboo fee al-ardiaw kanoo ghuzzan law kanoo AAindana mamatoo wama qutiloo liyajAAala Allahu thalikahasratan fee quloobihim wallahu yuhyeewayumeetu wallahu bima taAAmaloona baseer

O you who heed warning: be not like those who ignore warning, and say of their brothers when they travel in the earth or are on an expedition: “Had they been with us, they would not have died or been killed,” that God might make that a sorrow in their hearts; for God gives life, and gives death; and God sees what you do.

### 6. Surah Al-An'am, Verse 31

قَدْ خَسِرَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَذَّبُوا بِلِقَٓاءِ اللّٰهِۜ حَتّٰٓى اِذَا جَٓاءَتْهُمُ السَّاعَةُ بَغْتَةً قَالُوا يَا حَسْرَتَنَا عَلٰى مَا فَرَّطْنَا ف۪يهَاۙ وَهُمْ يَحْمِلُونَ اَوْزَارَهُمْ عَلٰى ظُهُورِهِمْۜ  اَلَا سَٓاءَ مَا يَزِرُونَ

Qad khasira allatheena kaththaboobiliqa-i Allahi hatta itha jaat-humuassaAAatu baghtatan qaloo ya hasratanaAAala ma farratna feeha wahumyahmiloona awzarahum AAala thuhoorihimala saa ma yaziroon

They have lost who deny the meeting with God; when the Hour has come upon them unexpectedly, they will say: “O our regret over what we neglected concerning it!” And they will bear their burdens upon their backs; in truth, evil is what they will bear.

### 8. Surah Al-Anfal, Verse 36

اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا يُنْفِقُونَ اَمْوَالَهُمْ لِيَصُدُّوا عَنْ سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِۜ فَسَيُنْفِقُونَهَا ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسْرَةً ثُمَّ يُغْلَبُونَۜ وَالَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُٓوا اِلٰى جَهَنَّمَ يُحْشَرُونَۙ

Inna allatheena kafaroo yunfiqoonaamwalahum liyasuddoo AAan sabeeli Allahifasayunfiqoonaha thumma takoonu AAalayhim hasratanthumma yughlaboona wallatheena kafaroo ilajahannama yuhsharoon

Those who ignore warning spend their wealth on turning away from the path of God. So will they spend it; then will it become a sorrow for them; then will they be defeated, and those who ignore warning will be gathered into Gehenna,

### 17. Surah Al-Isra, Verse 29

Wala tajAAal yadaka maghloolatan ilaAAunuqika wala tabsutha kulla albastifataqAAuda malooman mahsoora

And make thou not thy hand chained to thy neck; nor extend thou it to its full extent, then sit down blameworthy and denuded.

### 21. Surah Al-Anbiya, Verse 19

And to Him belongs whoso is in the heavens and the earth; and those in His presence are not too proud for His service, nor do they grow weary,

Afaman zuyyina lahu soo-o AAamalihi faraahuhasanan fa-inna Allaha yudillu man yashaowayahdee man yashao fala tathhab nafsukaAAalayhim hasaratin inna Allaha AAaleemunbima yasnaAAoon

Is then he to whom the evil of his deeds is made fair to him so he sees it as good[...]? And God leads astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills; so let not thy soul go out to them in regrets; God knows what they do.

### 36. Surah Ya-Sin, Verse 30

Oh, the sorrow for the servants! There came not to them a messenger save they mocked him.

### 39. Surah Az-Zumar, Verse 56

An taqoola nafsun ya hasrataAAala ma farrattu fee janbi Allahiwa-in kuntu lamina assakhireen

Lest a soul say: “Oh, my regret over what I neglected in what was due to God, and was of those who deride!”

### 67. Surah Al-Mulk, Verse 4

Then return thou thy vision again and again! Thy sight will return to thee humbled and weary.

### 69. Surah Al-Haqqah, Verse 50
