- **Meaning:** To become behind, lack, become in the rear, lag behind (strength), become incapable, powerless, be weak. Ujuzun - old women. A'jaza (vb. 4) to weaken, frustrate, find one to be weak. Mu'ajiz - one who baffles. Ajzun (pl. a'jazun) - portion of the trunk that is below its upper part.

FabaAAatha Allahu ghuraban yabhathufee al-ardi liyuriyahu kayfa yuwaree saw-ataakheehi qala ya waylata aAAajaztu an akoonamithla hatha alghurabi faowariya saw-ataakhee faasbaha mina annadimeen

Then God raised up a raven, scratching in the earth, to show him how to hide the shame of his brother. He said: “Woe is me! Am I not able to be as this raven, and hide the shame of my brother?” And he became of the remorseful.

Waathanun mina Allahiwarasoolihi ila annasi yawma alhajjial-akbari anna Allaha baree-on mina almushrikeenawarasooluhu fa-in tubtum fahuwa khayrun lakum wa-in tawallaytumfaAAlamoo annakum ghayru muAAjizee Allahiwabashshiri allatheena kafaroo biAAathabin aleem

And a proclamation from God and His messenger to mankind on the day of the greater pilgrimage: “God is free of the idolaters, as is His messenger. And if you repent, it is better for you; but if you turn away, know that you cannot escape God.” And bear thou tidings to those who ignore warning of a painful punishment,

Ola-ika lam yakoonoo muAAjizeena feeal-ardi wama kana lahum min dooni Allahimin awliyaa yudaAAafu lahumu alAAathabu makanoo yastateeAAoona assamAAa wama kanooyubsiroon

Those will not escape in the earth, and they have not, besides God, any allies. Doubled for them is the punishment; they could not hear, neither did they see;

Awa lam yaseeroo fee al-ardi fayanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablihimwakanoo ashadda minhum quwwatan wama kanaAllahu liyuAAjizahu min shay-in fee assamawatiwala fee al-ardi innahu kana AAaleemanqadeera

Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the final outcome of those who were before them? And they were stronger than them in power; but God is not such that anything in the heavens or in the earth should frustrate Him; He is knowing and powerful.

And the evil deeds they earned befell them. And those who do wrong among these — there will befall them the evil deeds of what they have earned; and they will not escape.

And whoso responds not to the caller to God, he will not escape in the earth, and he has no allies besides Him; those are in manifest error.

Which He compelled against them seven nights and eight days without let; and thou mightest see the people therein lying prostrate like stumps of hollow date-palms.
