Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 61 - **Form in this verse:** عَصَوا۟ — ʿaṣaw · "they disobeyed" - **Grammar:** verb · 3rd person, masculine, plural · past tense وَاِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَا مُوسٰى لَنْ نَصْبِرَ عَلٰى طَعَامٍ وَاحِدٍ فَادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُخْرِجْ لَنَا مِمَّا تُنْبِتُ الْاَرْضُ مِنْ بَقْلِهَا وَقِثَّٓائِهَا وَفُومِهَا وَعَدَسِهَا وَبَصَلِهَاۜ قَالَ اَتَسْتَبْدِلُونَ الَّذ۪ي هُوَ اَدْنٰى بِالَّذ۪ي هُوَ خَيْرٌۜ اِهْبِطُوا مِصْراً فَاِنَّ لَكُمْ مَا سَاَلْتُمْۜ وَضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الذِّلَّةُ وَالْمَسْكَنَةُ وَبَٓاؤُ۫ بِغَضَبٍ مِنَ اللّٰهِۜ ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يَكْفُرُونَ بِاٰيَاتِ اللّٰهِ وَيَقْتُلُونَ النَّبِيّ۪نَ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّۜ ذٰلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوْا وَكَانُوا يَعْتَدُونَ۟ Wa-ith qultum ya moosalan nasbira AAala taAAamin wahidinfadAAu lana rabbaka yukhrij lana mimmatunbitu al-ardu min baqliha waqiththa-ihawafoomiha waAAadasiha wabasaliha qalaatastabdiloona allathee huwa adna billatheehuwa khayrun ihbitoo misran fa-inna lakum masaaltum waduribat AAalayhimu aththillatu walmaskanatuwabaoo bighadabin mina Allahi thalikabi-annahum kanoo yakfuroona bi-ayati Allahiwayaqtuloona annabiyyeena bighayri alhaqqi thalikabima AAasaw wakanoo yaAAtadoon And when you said: “O Moses: we will not endure one food, so call thou to thy Lord for us that He bring forth for us of what the earth grows of its green herbs, and its cucumbers, and its garlic, and its lentils, and its onions.” He said: “Would you exchange for what is worse what is better? Get you down to Egypt, and you will have what you have asked.” And humiliation and wretchedness were pitched upon them; and they incurred wrath from God, for it is that they denied the proofs of God! And they will incur wrath from God, and wretchedness will be pitched upon them, for it is that they denied the proofs of God! When you were aware of them by His leave, when you had lost heart and disputed concerning the affair, and rebelled after He had shown you what you love[...]. Among you is he who desires the World; and among you is he who desires the Hereafter. Surah An-Nisa, Verse 46 - **Form in this verse:** وَعَصَيْنَا — waʿaṣaynā · "and we disobey[ed]" - **Grammar:** verb · 1st person, plural · past tense مِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ هَادُوا يُحَرِّفُونَ الْكَلِمَ عَنْ مَوَاضِعِه۪ وَيَقُولُونَ سَمِعْنَا وَعَصَيْنَا وَاسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ وَرَاعِنَا لَياًّ بِاَلْسِنَتِهِمْ وَطَعْناً فِي الدّ۪ينِۜ وَلَوْ اَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَاَطَعْنَا وَاسْمَعْ وَانْظُرْنَا لَكَانَ خَيْراً لَهُمْ وَاَقْوَمَۙ وَلٰكِنْ لَعَنَهُمُ اللّٰهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ اِلَّا قَل۪يلاً Mina allatheena hadoo yuharrifoonaalkalima AAan mawadiAAihi wayaqooloona samiAAnawaAAasayna wasmaAA ghayra musmaAAin waraAAinalayyan bi-alsinatihim wataAAnan fee addeeni walawannahum qaloo samiAAna waataAAna wasmaAAwanthurna lakana khayranlahum waaqwama walakin laAAanahumu Allahubikufrihim fala yu/minoona illa qaleela Some of those who hold to Judaism twist words from their places, — and they say: “We hear and we oppose”; and: “Hear thou what is not heard”; and: “Attend thou to us!” — twisting their tongues, and slandering the doctrine. And had they said: “We hear and we obey”; and: “Hear thou”; and: “Look thou upon us,” it would have been better for them, and more upright; but God has cursed them for their denial; and they do not believe save a few. _https://quran.so/surah-an-nisa/verse-46.md_ ### 5. Surah Yunus, Verse 15 - **Form in this verse:** عَصَيْتُ — ʿaṣaytu · "I were to disobey" - **Grammar:** verb · 1st person, singular · past tense وَاِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِمْ اٰيَاتُنَا بَيِّنَاتٍۙ قَالَ الَّذ۪ينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَٓاءَنَا ائْتِ بِقُرْاٰنٍ غَيْرِ هٰذَٓا اَوْ بَدِّلْهُۜ قُلْ مَا يَكُونُ ل۪ٓي اَنْ اُبَدِّلَهُ مِنْ تِلْقَٓائِ۬ نَفْس۪يۚ اِنْ اَتَّبِعُ اِلَّا مَا يُوحٰٓى اِلَيَّۚ اِنّ۪ٓي اَخَافُ اِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبّ۪ي عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظ۪يمٍ Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatunabayyinatin qala allatheena layarjoona liqaana i/ti biqur-anin ghayri hathaaw baddilhu qul ma yakoonu lee an obaddilahu min tilqa-inafsee in attabiAAu illa ma yooha ilayyainnee akhafu in AAasaytu rabbee AAathabayawmin AAatheem And when Our proofs are recited to them as clear signs, those who look not for the meeting with Us say: “Bring thou a Qur’an other than this; or change thou it.” Say thou: “It is not for me to change it of my own accord. If he were to obey you in much of the matter, you would be distressed. Surah Al-Mujadila, Verse 8 - **Form in this verse:** وَمَعْصِيَتِ — wamaʿṣiyati · "and disobedience" - **Grammar:** noun · feminine · genitive case اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذ۪ينَ نُهُوا عَنِ النَّجْوٰى ثُمَّ يَعُودُونَ لِمَا نُهُوا عَنْهُ وَيَتَنَاجَوْنَ بِالْاِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَمَعْصِيَتِ الرَّسُولِۘ وَاِذَا جَٓاؤُ۫كَ حَيَّوْكَ بِمَا لَمْ يُحَيِّكَ بِهِ اللّٰهُۙ وَيَقُولُونَ ف۪ٓي اَنْفُسِهِمْ لَوْلَا يُعَذِّبُنَا اللّٰهُ بِمَا نَقُولُۜ حَسْبُهُمْ جَهَنَّمُۚ يَصْلَوْنَهَاۚ فَبِئْسَ الْمَص۪يرُ Alam tara ila allatheena nuhooAAani annajwa thumma yaAAoodoona lima nuhooAAanhu wayatanajawna bil-ithmi walAAudwaniwamaAAsiyati arrasooli wa-itha jaookahayyawka bima lam yuhayyika bihi Allahuwayaqooloona fee anfusihim lawla yuAAaththibunaAllahu bima naqoolu hasbuhum jahannamu yaslawnahafabi/sa almaseer Hast thou not considered those who were forbidden private conversation then return to what they were forbidden and converse confidentially in sin and enmity and disobedience to the Messenger? And when they come to thee, they greet thee with a greeting wherewith God never greeted thee; and they say within themselves: “Oh, that God but punished us for what we say!” Sufficient for them is Gehenna: they will burn therein; and evil is the journey’s end! _https://quran.so/surah-al-mujadila/verse-8.md_ ### 58. Surah Al-Mumtahanah, Verse 12 - **Form in this verse:** يَعْصِينَكَ — yaʿṣīnaka · "they will disobey you" - **Grammar:** verb · 3rd person, feminine, plural · present tense يَٓا اَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ اِذَا جَٓاءَكَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتُ يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلٰٓى اَنْ لَا يُشْرِكْنَ بِاللّٰهِ شَيْـٔاً وَلَا يَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا يَزْن۪ينَ وَلَا يَقْتُلْنَ اَوْلَادَهُنَّ وَلَا يَأْت۪ينَ بِبُهْتَانٍ يَفْتَر۪ينَهُ بَيْنَ اَيْد۪يهِنَّ وَاَرْجُلِهِنَّ وَلَا يَعْص۪ينَكَ ف۪ي مَعْرُوفٍ فَبَايِعْهُنَّ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُنَّ اللّٰهَۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُورٌ رَح۪يمٌ Ya ayyuha annabiyyu ithajaaka almu/minatu yubayiAAnaka AAalaan la yushrikna billahi shay-an walayasriqna wala yazneena wala yaqtulna awladahunnawala ya/teena bibuhtanin yaftareenahu baynaaydeehinna waarjulihinna wala yaAAseenaka feemaAAroofin fabayiAAhunna wastaghfir lahunna Allahainna Allaha ghafoorun raheem O Prophet: when the believing women come to thee, swearing fealty to thee: — that they will not ascribe a partnership with God to anything; and they will not steal; and they will not commit unlawful sexual intercourse; and they will not kill their children; and they will not produce a calumny they have invented between their hands and their feet; and they will not disobey thee in what is fitting; — then accept thou their fealty, and ask thou God to forgive them; God is forgiving and merciful. _https://quran.so/surah-al-mumtahanah/verse-12.md_ ### 66.
