- **Meaning:** To blow violently (wind), blow in a gale, be quick, rag swiftly. Asfun - leaves and stalks, straw, green, crop, bladder, stubbles, husk. Asafa - to cut corn when green, AAasafa - to perish. Asifatun - storm, whirlwind, hurricane. Asifun - violent wind, stormy, vehement.

Huwa allathee yusayyirukum feealbarri walbahri hatta ithakuntum fee alfulki wajarayna bihim bireehin tayyibatinwafarihoo biha jaat-ha reehunAAasifun wajaahumu almawju min kulli makaninwathannoo annahum oheeta bihimdaAAawoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu addeenala-in anjaytana min hathihi lanakoonanna mina ashshakireen

He it is that lets you travel in the earth and the sea; when you have boarded ships and sailed by them with a good breeze and exulted thereat–– A tempest wind came upon them, and the waves came on them from every side, and they thought they were encompassed therein; they called to God, sincere to Him in doctrine: “If Thou deliver us from this, we will be among the grateful!”

Mathalu allatheena kafaroo birabbihimaAAmaluhum karamadin ishtaddat bihi arreehufee yawmin AAasifin la yaqdiroona mimmakasaboo AAala shay-in thalika huwa addalalualbaAAeed

The likeness of those who deny their Lord: their works are as ashes the wind scatters on a day of tempest; they possess nothing of what they earned — that is the extreme error.

### 21. Surah Al-Anbiya, Verse 81
