Am kuntum shuhadaa ith hadarayaAAqooba almawtu ith qala libaneehi mataAAbudoona min baAAdee qaloo naAAbudu ilahakawa-ilaha aba-ika ibraheema wa-ismaAAeelawa-ishaqa ilahan wahidan wanahnu lahumuslimoon

If you were witnesses when death was present with Jacob: — when he said to his sons: “What will you serve after me?” — they said: “We will serve thy God, and God of thy fathers Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac, One God, and to Him are we submitting.”

Fa-itha qadaytum manasikakumfathkuroo Allaha kathikrikum abaakumaw ashadda thikran famina annasi manyaqoolu rabbana atina fee addunyawama lahu fee al-akhirati min khalaq

And when you have concluded your rites, remember God like your remembrance of your fathers, or with stronger remembrance. And among men is he who says: “Our Lord: give Thou to us in the World,” and he has no portion in the Hereafter.

Yooseekumu Allahu fee awladikumliththakari mithlu haththialonthayayni fa-in kunna nisaan fawqa ithnatayni falahunnathulutha ma taraka wa-in kanat wahidatanfalaha annisfu wali-abawayhi likulli wahidinminhuma assudusu mimma taraka in kanalahu waladun fa-in lam yakun lahu waladun wawarithahu abawahufali-ommihi aththuluthu fa-in kana lahu ikhwatunfali-ommihi assudusu min baAAdi wasiyyatin yooseebiha aw daynin abaokum waabnaokum latadroona ayyuhum aqrabu lakum nafAAan fareedatan mina Allahiinna Allaha kana AAaleeman hakeema

God charges you concerning your children: for the male is the like of the portion of two females; but if there are women above two, then for them is two-thirds of what he left; and if she is one, then for her is half; and for his parents: for each one of them is one-sixth of what he left if he has a child. Then if he has not a child and there inherit from him his parents, for his mother is one-third; but if he has brothers or sisters: for his mother is one-sixth, after a bequest he has made, or debt — your parents and your children: you know not which of them is nearer to you in benefit — as an obligation from God; God is knowing and wise.

And marry not what your fathers married among women save what is past; it was sexual immorality, and hateful, and an evil path.

And when Abraham said to his father Āzar: “Takest thou idols as gods? I see thee and thy people in manifest error.”

Wama qadaroo Allaha haqqaqadrihi ith qaloo ma anzala AllahuAAala basharin min shay-in qul man anzala alkitabaallathee jaa bihi moosa nooran wahudan linnasitajAAaloonahu qarateesa tubdoonaha watukhfoonakatheeran waAAullimtum ma lam taAAlamoo antum wala abaokumquli Allahu thumma tharhum fee khawdihimyalAAaboon

And they measured God not with the measure due Him when they said: “God has not sent down upon a mortal anything.” Say thou: “Who sent down the Writ which Moses brought as a light and guidance for men?” (You make it into parchments which you show; and you conceal much; and you were taught what you knew not, you and your fathers.) Say thou: “God”; then leave thou them playing in their vain discourses.

سَيَقُولُ الَّذ۪ينَ اَشْرَكُوا لَوْ شَٓاءَ اللّٰهُ مَٓا اَشْرَكْنَا وَلَٓا اٰبَٓاؤُ۬نَا وَلَا حَرَّمْنَا مِنْ شَيْءٍۜ كَذٰلِكَ كَذَّبَ الَّذ۪ينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ حَتّٰى ذَاقُوا بَأْسَنَاۜ قُلْ هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ مِنْ عِلْمٍ فَتُخْرِجُوهُ لَنَاۜ اِنْ تَتَّبِعُونَ اِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَاِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا تَخْرُصُونَ

Sayaqoolu allatheena ashrakoo law shaaAllahu ma ashrakna wala abaonawala harramna min shay-in kathalikakaththaba allatheena min qablihim hattathaqoo ba/sana qul hal AAindakum min AAilminfatukhrijoohu lana in tattabiAAoona illa aththannawa-in antum illa takhrusoon

Those who ascribe a partnership will say: “Had God willed, we would not have ascribed a partnership, nor would our fathers, nor would we have made anything unlawful.” Thus did those who were before them deny until they tasted Our might. Say thou: “Have you any knowledge to bring forth for us? You follow only assumption, and are only guessing.”

يَا بَن۪ٓي اٰدَمَ لَا يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ كَمَٓا اَخْرَجَ اَبَوَيْكُمْ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ يَنْزِعُ عَنْهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوْاٰتِهِمَاۜ اِنَّهُ يَرٰيكُمْ هُوَ وَقَب۪يلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْۜ اِنَّا جَعَلْنَا الشَّيَاط۪ينَ اَوْلِيَٓاءَ لِلَّذ۪ينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Ya banee adama layaftinannakumu ashshaytanu kama akhrajaabawaykum mina aljannati yanziAAu AAanhuma libasahumaliyuriyahuma saw-atihima innahu yarakumhuwa waqabeeluhu min haythu la tarawnahum innajaAAalna ashshayateena awliyaa lillatheenala yu/minoon

O children of Adam: let not the satan subject you to means of denial as he turned your parents out of the garden, removing from them their raiment, that he might make manifest their shame to them. He and his kind see you from where you see them not. We have made the satans allies of those who do not believe.

Wa-itha faAAaloo fahishatan qaloowajadna AAalayha abaana wallahuamarana biha qul inna Allaha laya/muru bilfahsha-i ataqooloona AAalaAllahi ma la taAAlamoon

And when they commit sexual immorality, they say: “We found our fathers doing it,” and: “God enjoined it upon us.” Say thou: “God enjoins not sexual immorality; do you ascribe to God what you know not?”

قَالُٓوا اَجِئْتَنَا لِنَعْبُدَ اللّٰهَ وَحْدَهُ وَنَذَرَ مَا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ اٰبَٓاؤُ۬نَاۚ فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَٓا اِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِق۪ينَ

Qaloo aji/tana linaAAbuda Allahawahdahu wanathara ma kana yaAAbudu abaonafa/tina bima taAAiduna in kunta mina assadiqeen

They said: “Hast thou come to us that we should serve God alone and leave what our fathers served? Then bring thou us what thou promisest us, if thou be of the truthful.”

He said: “There have come upon you from your Lord abomination and wrath; dispute you with me concerning names which you have named, you and your fathers? God sent not down for these any authority. Then wait — I am with you waiting.”

Qul in kana abaokumwaabnaokum wa-ikhwanukum waazwajukumwaAAasheeratukum waamwalun iqtaraftumooha watijaratuntakhshawna kasadaha wamasakinu tardawnahaahabba ilaykum mina Allahi warasoolihi wajihadinfee sabeelihi fatarabbasoo hatta ya/tiya Allahubi-amrihi wallahu la yahdee alqawma alfasiqeen

Say thou: “If your fathers, and your sons, and your brothers, and your wives, and your kindred, and the wealth you have acquired, and trade wherein you fear a decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased, be dearer to you than God and His messenger and striving in His cause, then wait until God brings His command”; and God guides not the perfidious people.

And the request for forgiveness of Abraham for his father was only because of a promise he had promised him; but when it had become clear to him that he was an enemy to God, he declared himself quit of him; Abraham was compassionate and clement.

“And thus will thy Lord choose thee, and teach thee the interpretation of events, and complete His favour upon thee and upon the house of Jacob as He completed it upon thy fathers before, Abraham and Isaac; thy Lord is knowing and wise.”

“And I have followed the creed of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; it is not for us to ascribe a partnership to God with anything. That is of the bounty of God upon us, and upon mankind; but most men are not grateful.

Ma taAAbudoona min doonihi illaasmaan sammaytumooha antum waabaokumma anzala Allahu biha min sultaninini alhukmu illa lillahi amara allataAAbudoo illa iyyahu thalika addeenualqayyimu walakinna akthara annasi layaAAlamoon

“You serve, besides Him, only names which you have named, you and your fathers; God sent not down for them any authority. Judgment is but for God. He commanded that you serve not save Him. That is the right doctrine; but most men know not.

And when they returned to their father, they said: “O our father: forbidden us was the measure, so send thou with us our brother; we will obtain the measure; and we will keep him safe.”

Walamma fatahoo mataAAahumwajadoo bidaAAatahum ruddat ilayhim qaloo yaabana ma nabghee hathihi bidaAAatunaruddat ilayna wanameeru ahlana wanahfathuakhana wanazdadu kayla baAAeerin thalikakaylun yaseer

And when they opened their possessions, they found their merchandise returned to them. They said: “O our father: what more can we ask! This is our merchandise returned to us. And we will get provision for our people and guard our brother, and will have increase of a camel’s measure — that is an easy measure.”

Walamma dakhaloo min haythuamarahum aboohum ma kana yughnee AAanhum mina Allahimin shay-in illa hajatan fee nafsi yaAAqooba qadahawa-innahu lathoo AAilmin lima AAallamnahuwalakinna akthara annasi layaAAlamoon

And when they entered in what manner their father had commanded them, it availed them nothing against God; it was but a need in the soul of Jacob which he satisfied. And he was a man of knowledge due to what We had taught him; but most men know not.

And when they had despaired of him, they separated themselves for private conference. The eldest of them said: “Know you not that your father took a solemn oath from you before God — and you failed concerning Joseph before? And I will not leave the land until my father gives me leave, or God judges in my favour; and He is the best of judges.

WarafaAAa abawayhi AAala alAAarshiwakharroo lahu sujjadan waqala ya abati hathata/weelu ru/yaya min qablu qad jaAAalaha rabbee haqqanwaqad ahsana bee ith akhrajanee mina assijniwajaa bikum mina albadwi min baAAdi an nazagha ashshaytanubaynee wabayna ikhwatee inna rabbee lateefun limayashao innahu huwa alAAaleemu alhakeem

And he raised his parents upon the throne. And they fell down to him in submission, and he said: “O my father: this is the fulfilment of my dream before. My Lord has made it true. And He did good to me when He took me out of the prison, and brought you from the desert after the satan had provoked to evil between me and my brothers. My Lord is subtle in what He wills; He is the Knowing, the Wise.”

Qalat rusuluhum afee Allahishakkun fatiri assamawati wal-ardiyadAAookum liyaghfira lakum min thunoobikumwayu-akhkhirakum ila ajalin musamman qaloo in antumilla basharun mithluna tureedoona an tasuddoonaAAamma kana yaAAbudu abaonafa/toona bisultanin mubeen

Their messengers said: “Can there be about God any doubt: the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth? He calls you, that He will forgive you of your transgressions, and delay you to a stated term.” They said: “You are only mortals like us, who would turn us away from what our fathers served. So bring us a clear authority.”

Waqala allatheena ashrakoo lawshaa Allahu ma AAabadna min doonihimin shay-in nahnu wala abaonawala harramna min doonihi min shay-in kathalikafaAAala allatheena min qablihim fahal AAala arrusuliilla albalaghu almubeen

And those who ascribe a partnership say: “Had God willed, we would not have served, besides Him, anything — neither we nor our fathers — nor would we have forbidden anything contrary to Him”; thus did those before them. Then is there upon the messengers save the clear notification?

Waamma aljidaru fakanalighulamayni yateemayni fee almadeenati wakana tahtahukanzun lahuma wakana aboohuma salihanfaarada rabbuka an yablugha ashuddahumawayastakhrija kanzahuma rahmatan min rabbikawama faAAaltuhu AAan amree thalika ta/weelu malam tastiAA AAalayhi sabra

“And as for the wall: it belonged to two fatherless lads in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them. And their father had been righteous, and thy Lord desired that they should reach maturity, and to bring forth their treasure as a mercy from thy Lord; and I did it not by my command. That is the interpretation of what thou couldst not be patient in.”

Wajahidoo fee Allahi haqqajihadihi huwa ijtabakum wama jaAAalaAAalaykum fee addeeni min harajin millata abeekumibraheema huwa sammakumu almuslimeena min qabluwafee hatha liyakoona arrasoolu shaheedanAAalaykum watakoonoo shuhadaa AAala annasifaaqeemoo assalata waatoo azzakatawaAAtasimoo billahi huwa mawlakumfaniAAma almawla waniAAma annaseer

And strive for God with the striving due Him. He has chosen you, and has not placed upon you in doctrine any distress — the creed of your father Abraham. He named you those submitting before, and in this, that the Messenger might be a witness to you, and that you might be witnesses to men. So uphold the duty, and render the purity, and hold fast to God; He is your protector. Then excellent is the Protector! And excellent is the Helper!

Then said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people: “This is only a mortal like you, desiring to take precedence over you. And had God willed, He would have sent down angels. We heard not of this among our fathers of old.

Waqul lilmu/minati yaghdudnamin absarihinna wayahfathnafuroojahunna wala yubdeena zeenatahunna illa mathahara minha walyadribnabikhumurihinna AAala juyoobihinna wala yubdeenazeenatahunna illa libuAAoolatihinna aw aba-ihinnaaw aba-i buAAoolatihinna aw abna-ihinna awabna-i buAAoolatihinna aw ikhwanihinna aw baneeikhwanihinna aw banee akhawatihinna aw nisa-ihinnaaw ma malakat aymanuhunna awi attabiAAeenaghayri olee al-irbati mina arrijali awi attifliallatheena lam yathharoo AAala AAawratiannisa-i wala yadribnabi-arjulihinna liyuAAlama ma yukhfeena min zeenatihinnawatooboo ila Allahi jameeAAan ayyuhaalmu/minoona laAAallakum tuflihoon

And say thou to the believing women, that they lower some of their sight, and preserve their chastity, and that they show not their adornment save that apparent of it, and that they draw their coverings over their bosoms and not reveal their adornment save to their husbands, or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or what their right hands possess, or male attendants who have not the resourcefulness of men, or the children not yet aware of a woman’s private parts. And let them not strike their feet to make known what they hide of their adornment. And turn to God altogether, O believers, that you might be successful.

Laysa AAala al-aAAma harajunwala AAala al-aAAraji harajun walaAAala almareedi harajun wala AAalaanfusikum an ta/kuloo min buyootikum aw buyooti aba-ikumaw buyooti ommahatikum aw buyooti ikhwanikum awbuyooti akhawatikum aw buyooti aAAmamikum awbuyooti AAammatikum aw buyooti akhwalikum awbuyooti khalatikum aw ma malaktum mafatihahuaw sadeeqikum laysa AAalaykum junahun an ta/kuloojameeAAan aw ashtatan fa-itha dakhaltum buyootanfasallimoo AAala anfusikum tahiyyatan min AAindiAllahi mubarakatan tayyibatan kathalikayubayyinu Allahu lakumu al-ayati laAAallakumtaAAqiloon

No blame is there upon the blind, nor any blame upon the lame, nor any blame upon the sick, nor upon yourselves, that you eat of your houses, or the houses of your fathers, or the houses of your mothers, or the houses of your brothers, or the houses of your sisters, or the houses of your paternal uncles, or the houses of your paternal aunts, or the houses of your maternal uncles, or the houses of your maternal aunts, or that whereof you hold the keys, or of your friend; you do no wrong to eat together or separately. But when you enter houses, greet one another with a greeting from God, blessed and good. Thus God makes plain to you the proofs, that you might use reason.

They will say: “Glory be to Thee! It behoved us not to take, besides Thee, any allies! But Thou didst give them and their fathers enjoyment until they forgot the remembrance and became a people ruined.”

Walamma warada maa madyanawajada AAalayhi ommatan mina annasi yasqoonawawajada min doonihimu imraatayni tathoodani qalama khatbukuma qalata lanasqee hatta yusdira arriAAaowaaboona shaykhun kabeer

And when he arrived at the water of Madyan, he found there a community of people watering, and he found besides them two women holding back; he said: “What is your case?” They said: “We do not water until the shepherds drive hence; and our father is a very old man.”

Fajaat-hu ihdahumatamshee AAala istihya-in qalat innaabee yadAAooka liyajziyaka ajra ma saqayta lanafalamma jaahu waqassa AAalayhi alqasasaqala la takhaf najawta mina alqawmi aththalimeen

And there came to him one of the two, walking shyly. She said: “My father calls thee, that he might reward thee with a reward for that thou didst water for us.” And when he came to him, and had related to him the story, said he: “Fear thou not; thou hast escaped the wrongdoing people.”

### 28. Surah Al-Qasas, Verse 26

One of the two said: “O my father: hire thou him; the best thou canst hire is the strong and the trustworthy.”

And when Moses came to them with Our clear proofs, they said: “This is only invented sorcery. And we heard not of this among our fathers of old.”

### 31. Surah Luqman, Verse 21

Wa-itha qeela lahumu ittabiAAoo maanzala Allahu qaloo bal nattabiAAu ma wajadnaAAalayhi abaana awa law kana ashshaytanuyadAAoohum ila AAathabi assaAAeer

And when it is said to them: “Follow what God has sent down,” they say: “Nay, we will follow that upon which we found our fathers.” — Even though the satan invites them to the punishment of the Inferno?

OdAAoohum li-aba-ihim huwa aqsatuAAinda Allahi fa-in lam taAAlamoo abaahumfa-ikhwanukum fee addeeni wamawaleekumwalaysa AAalaykum junahun feema akhta/tumbihi walakin ma taAAammadat quloobukum wakanaAllahu ghafooran raheema

Call them by their fathers; it is more equitable in the sight of God. But if you know not their fathers, then are they your brethren in doctrine and your allies. And you do no wrong in what you offended therein; but what your hearts intended[...]. And God is forgiving and merciful.

Muḥammad is not the father of any of your men, but the messenger of God, and the seal of the prophets; and God is knowing of all things.

La junaha AAalayhinna fee aba-ihinnawala abna-ihinna wala ikhwanihinnawala abna-i ikhwanihinna wala abna-iakhawatihinna wala nisa-ihinna wala mamalakat aymanuhunna wattaqeena Allaha innaAllaha kana AAala kulli shay-in shaheeda

There is no blame upon them concerning their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or what their right hands possess. And be in prudent fear of God; God is over all things, witness.

Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatunabayyinatin qaloo ma hatha illarajulun yureedu an yasuddakum AAamma kanayaAAbudu abaokum waqaloo ma hathailla ifkun muftaran waqala allatheenakafaroo lilhaqqi lamma jaahum in hathailla sihrun mubeen

And when Our proofs are recited to them as clear signs, they say: “This is only a man who wishes to turn you away from what your fathers served”; and they say: “This is only an invented falsehood.” And those who ignore warning say of the truth when it has come to them: “This is only obvious sorcery.”
