And what befell you the day the two hosts met was by the leave of God, that He might know the believers,
What assailed you on the day the two armies met was by Allah’s permission, so that He would know the muminun,
And what you suffered on the day the two hosts met was by God's leave, and to let the believers know.
If you suffered when the two armies clashed, it happened according to Allah's Laws. He made it a test for the believers to know their strength and weakness.
And what befell you the day the two hosts met was by the leave of God, that He might know the believers,
And what you suffered on the day the two hosts met was with the permission of God, and to let the believers know.
What you suffered on the day the two armies met was by God's leave, and to let those who acknowledge know.
What afflicted you the day the two armies clashed was in accordance with GOD's will, and to distinguish the believers.
What you suffered on the day the two armies had met was by God's dispensation, so that He may distinguish the faithful,
And what struck you on the day the two armies met was by permission of Allah that He might make evident the believers.
and all that befell you on the day when the two hosts met in battle happened by God's leave, so that He might mark out the believers,
That which befell you, on the day when the two armies met, was by permission of Allah; that He might know the true believers;

What befell you that day when the two forces met was justly brought about by Allah’s permission to distinguish those whose hearts reflect the image of religious and spiritual virtues,
What happened to you in the clash between two armies was with the permission of God, and as a trial, in order to expose the hypocrites
And what you suffered (of the disaster) on the day (of the battle of Uhud when) the two armies met, was by the leave of Allâh, in order that He might test the believers.

And what happened unto you, on the day whereon the two armies met, was certainly by the permission of God; and that he might know the faithful,
And, whatever (loss) you suffered on the day (when) the two armies met, was with the permission of Allah, in order that He might test the believers—
And that which befell you on the day when the two armies met (at Uhud), was so by the leave of Allâh, and (it happened thus) so that He might distinguish the believers,
